About The .17 Mach 2 Ammo is a rimfire cartridge introduced to the markets in 2004. The .17 Mach 2 Ammo is based on the design of the .22 Long Rifle Stinger Ammo, which was necked down to .17 caliber Ammo and using a cartridge weighing less than half of its weight. Since the .17 Mach 2 Ammo is based on the .22 Long Rifle Ammo, it only requires a barrel change to convert most bolt action firearms that can chamber the .22 Long Rifle Ammo to the .17 Mach 2 Ammo. To compensate and deal with the high-pressure requirements, conversion kits were created. The overall length of the .17 Mach 2 Ammo is 25mm, and the diameter of the bullet measures 4.4mm. The 17-grain bullet variant of the .17 Mach 2 Ammo travels at a velocity of 2,100 feet per second and creates an energy level of 166 ft.lbf.  Manufacturer The rimfire cartridge .17 Mach 2 Ammo was designed by Hornady in 2004 and manufactured by CCI/Hornady/Eley in the same year.  Uses The .17 Mach 2 Ammo gives the varmint hunters a high-velocity rimfire bullet that can effectively shoot down ground squirrels and prairie dogs at ranges up to 220 yards.
