45 GAP Ammo
About
The .45 GAP Ammo or .45 Glock Ammo was designed in 2003 specifically for pistols, and due to its success, it's still manufactured to this day. The .45 GAP Ammo was created to match the power of the .45 ACP Ammo, come in a stronger casing to reduce the chances of case neck blowouts, and be small in size to fit more compact handguns. The .45 GAP Ammo has the same diameter as the .45 ACP Ammo but is a little shorter and primarily uses a small pistol. This cartridge is most popular because it can be chambered into subcompact pistols for concealed carry. The overall length of the .45 GAP Ammo is 27.2mm, and the bullet's diameter measures 11.5mm. The lightest variant of the .45 GAP Ammo is a 185-grain bullet load that can travel at a velocity of 1,150 feet per second and creates an energy level of 543 ft. lbf.
Manufacturer
Ernest Durham designed the .45 GAP Ammo at the request of firearms manufacturer Glock and the first commercially introduced cartridge to identify with Glock.
Uses
Even though many law enforcement departments have moved away from the .45 Caliber Ammo, some still fall into the following of the .45 GAP Ammo because of its consistent performance. Since this cartridge can fit into small, compact pistols, the .45 GAP Ammo makes the perfect choice for concealed carry handguns.
The .45 Glock Automatic Pistol (GAP) was developed in 2002 by Ernest Durham, an engineer for CCI/Speer at the request of Glock. It is the first commercially available cartridge associated with Glock. Glock wanted a cartridge that equaled performance of the .45 ACP but could fit in smaller pistols.

The .45 GAP has been adopted by a few law enforcement agencies and some civilians carry it for personal defense. Ballistic performance is approximately the same as .45 ACP. Glock is currently the only manufacturer offering pistols chambered in this cartridge.
.45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol) Trivia
The maximum pressure for the .45 GAP is equivalent to .45 ACP +P loads. To achieve this with a smaller casing of the same caliber, the desired performance could only be achieved through powder selection.
