Springfield Armory Kuna 9mm: The Compact PDW Everyone’s Talking About
Springfield Armory, in partnership with Croatian firearms manufacturer HS Produkt, has launched the Kuna 9mm pistol a personal defense weapon (PDW) that brings together compact size, advanced engineering, and tactical efficiency. Named after the European Pine Marten (Kuna), a symbol of agility in Croatia, this pistol lives up to its namesake.
Innovative Roller-Delayed Blowback System
At the heart of the Kuna is a roller-delayed blowback action. This system uses rollers to delay the bolt's rearward movement, reducing felt recoil and muzzle rise. It eliminates the need for a heavy bolt or gas system, offering smoother, more controllable shooting especially beneficial during rapid fire or defensive use.
Durable Construction and Modern Features
The Kuna features a monolithic aluminum upper receiver with M-LOK slots, allowing users to mount lights, lasers, or other accessories. Its 6-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is treated with a Melonite finish for longevity and corrosion resistance. The barrel is also threaded (1/2×28) and comes equipped with a multi-port brake.
Ambidextrous Controls and User-Friendly Design
Designed with versatility in mind, the Kuna includes fully ambidextrous controls for the safety, magazine release, and bolt catch. Its reversible, non-reciprocating charging handle folds neatly when not in use perfect for right- or left-handed shooters.
Efficient Magazine and Grip System
The firearm feeds from translucent 30-round magazines, making it easy to monitor ammunition at a glance. It also sports an AR-style grip with Adaptive Grip Texture, similar to what you’d find on Springfield’s Hellcat and Echelon models, offering both familiarity and comfort.
Unique Hybrid Sight System
The Kuna comes with dual-purpose flip-up metal sights. When deployed, they provide a precision rear aperture and a front ring post. When folded down, they transform into a white-dot front and U-notch rear sight offering two sighting options in one compact setup.
Two Configurations to Fit Your Needs
Springfield Armory offers the Kuna in two distinct configurations:
Standard Model (KN9069B): Priced at $999, this model includes a rear Picatinny rail for additional mounting flexibility.
Brace Model (KN9069B-FSA): Available for $1,149, this variant includes the Strike Industries FSA folding stabilizing brace ideal for enhanced control and compact storage.
