The Remington 870 is an iconic shotgun. I have not met many gun owners who do not own one or have at least shot it at some point.
I may be a bit biased in my review because this was the shotgun I grew up with but that does not take away from the quality of this classic firearm. I mean, 11 million of them have been made so it must have something going for it.
The two aspects that stick out in my mind are its reliability and how simple it was to take down. Seeing that it was primarily used for hunting, there were numerous occasions that called for it to be taken apart in the field. Usually, this was because I tripped and clogged the barrel or other parts with muddy debris. I could take it apart with minimum tools and put it back together in minutes.
Its reliability was more than outstanding. Between hunting, target shooting, and skeet shooting I'm confident that thousands of rounds went through my 870 and I experienced maybe a handful of malfunctions.
If you are looking for an extremely affordable, reliable, quality 12ga shotgun, I can't think of a better model to recommend than the Remington 870
