A 17-year-old boy was stopped on Thursday afternoon after being found with a gun at KIPP Connect Primary in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Someone called the police around 12:50 p.m., saying they saw a video of a guy with a gun at the school, located at 6700 Bellaire Blvd.

When police got to the campus, the caller pointed out the suspected teen. The gun was taken away, and the 17-year-old was held by the police.

KIPP Texas Public Schools said the campus was made safe as the police checked things out.

It’s not clear if the teen is a student at the school, or if he was found with the gun inside or outside the building.

The case will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office to see if the teen will face charges.

KIPP Texas Public Schools shared this statement:

“Our top job at KIPP Texas is making sure our students, their families, and our staff are safe and well. Today, we got told about a possible weapon at KIPP CONNECT. We right away kept the students thought to be involved separate and made sure our campus was safe. The Houston Police Department was told straight away, and they quickly came and took the gun. The students involved are being held by the police, and we have talked to families at the campus.

We have a plan for what to do if there might be a threat on a campus, and we followed it. Luckily, no students or staff were hurt or threatened with the gun. There is no acceptance of having weapons on our KIPP Texas campuses. We think the school is safe, and we are dedicated to making sure all our students are learning and growing in a safe place every day.”
