HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – Former President Donald Trump, the leading Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential race, made a strong pledge to his supporters at an event organized by the National Rifle Association (NRA) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

This is what he said he would do, if re-elected: he will get rid of all gun restrictions that President Joe Biden signed into law. President Trump exactly referred to his plan to cancel the rule restricting the sales of gun accessories, such as pistol braces, and many other regulations introduced by the Biden administration.

In his speech, Trump underlined his determination to safeguard the gun right and recalled his past actions on this matter while he was the President at the White House from 2017 to 2021. He committed to the electorate that, once re-elected, he would take action immediately to cancel what he called “the entire Biden offensive against gun buyers and sellers,” and probably on his first day of office itself.

The NRA has been one of the strongest supporters of Trump ever since, endorsing him during the 2016 presidential race and all through his presidency. The administration of Trump took several steps in sync with the gun lobby interests, for instance, some of these were his decision not to designate gun shops as essential businesses so that they could stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump’s tough stance on gun rights is in accordance with the usual stance of the Republican Party, which with the help of the NRA and other pro-gun rights organizations, has always been against stricter gun laws, citing the Second Amendment. Nevertheless, the issue of mass shootings and high death toll of a gun violence continues tormenting the United States and the party’s stance on it has stayed the same

The upcoming presidential election is projected to be hotly contested, as Trump wants to be re-elected to the office. The fact that he addressed the NRA gathering was a clear sign he would strive to collect support from conservative gun owners, which he considers a segment of voters he cannot afford to lose. Trump called on his backers to show up at the polls in big numbers, especially in the pivotal battleground states such as Pennsylvania where he lost in the 2020 election.

The Democratic National Committee put up a billboard in Harrisburg in reaction to Trump’s speech, in response to which commenting on a previous occasion when Trump made controversial remarks following a school shooting. The Biden campaign also made a call with reporters when a young Florida congressman lashed out at Trump’s policy of gun laws and accused him of acting under the influence of NRA.

The 2024 presidential election is expected to be a re-run of the 2020 presidential election, with Trump and Biden as the main candidates, who have made progress towards their respective campaigns. Nevertheless, the election is yet to come, and it will not be too late for the political situation to change as the candidates continue to meet people and deal with various issues that are relevant to the country

The 2024 presidential election is thought to be very tight as Trump tries to get a second term in presidency. The fact that he spoke at the NRA event shows that he is serious about getting the backing of gun owning conservatives, who he sees as a decisive voting bloc that could guarantee him another term. Trump called on his followers to vote in huge numbers at polls, especially in the battleground states like Pennsylvania, where he lost in 2020.
