Benelli Nova Youth Compact Info

The Benelli Nova Compact is a rugged Pump-Action Shotgun with a slightly shorter length-of-pull and a 24″ barrel, making it an ideal youth shotgun, or an all-purpose shotgun for experienced shooters of smaller stature. The innovatively designed Nova is an ultra reliable, nearly indestructible pump shotgun that’s ideal for all-round rugged use. Benelli constructs the Nova with corrosion-proof polymer over-molded on a skeleton framework to form single-piece receiver and buttstock for unsurpassed strength and weather resistance. The polymer forearm pushes a rotary-head bolt back with dual-action bars. Aggressive ribbing on the pistol grip and forearm provide a secure hold on the gun under any circumstances. A magazine disconnect button on the bottom of the forearm allows user to quickly unload the chamber without releasing another round from the magazine to quickly load another round via the ejection port in the event that a different shooting situation suddenly presents itself. The matte finished steel barrel features ventilated stepped rib with a mid bead and red-bar front sight. The Nova utilizes a magazine cap that doubles as a tool for pushing out the single pin that holds the trigger assembly in place, making fieldstripping fast and easy. The 20 gauge Benelli Nova Compact Pump-Action Shotgun handles 2-3/4″ and a 3″ shotshells interchangeably without adjustments. Comes with three standard screw-in choke tubes (F, M, IC), and choke tool.

  • Gun Review: Benelli Nova Pump Field Shotgun
Benelli’s tag line is “Simply Perfect.” That may be a touch overstated as I’ve yet to see a gun that can reach that bar. But as pump shotguns go, Benelli’s Nova Pump Field Shotgun can make a lot of good argumen...ts for being considered the top of the pump gun heap. The Nova allows you to clear the chamber without dumping all the rounds in the four-round magazine. Simply depress the button on the bottom of the fore end, rack the pump and the shell in the chamber is ejected without loading a new one from the magazine. That allows you to slip another type of shell in if needed or make the shotgun safe without a full mag dump if you have to climb out of a blind, hand it to a hunting buddy, whatever. And unlike traditional checkering, Benelli has molded a series of grooves into the polymer on the grip and fore end that provide a very positive grip even in wet conditions while wearing gloves. more

    Excellent all around shotgun
I have owned my Nova 12 gauge for six years and absolutely love it. It has taken all species of birds in southeastern Wyoming from turkey to dove and everything in between. I've put that shotgun through every weather con...dition possible in just about every hunting situation possible and it's been reliable and consistent every time. I've never had any issues misfiring, a friend did with his Nova but it was due to lack of cleaning and the firing pin got jammed up. After a simple teardown and cleanup of the pin assembly it has worked flawlessly sense (that was 3 years and about 2,000 rounds ago). I bought a good set of choke tubes when I got the gun and know that I will have a great shotgun for a very, very long time. more

    Solid pump shotgun
I bought the 12 ga. 28” field version. This is a great gun for duck hunting, fun for sporting clays, too. It has never jammed, it has always fired for the 1000+ rounds I have put through it this year. The trigger seeme...d heavy at first but I find it takes me a while to learn to shoot a new gun and now it feels natural. I can’t think of any downsides to it... I guess if you want a shotgun you can customize, maybe look at others. If you want a shotgun to use in the field, this is a great all-round shotgun. more

    Really!
So, I stopped in Bass pro the day after my birthday to buy a Winchester SXP 12 guage pump. (Field). They didn’t have any so I looked at what they did have and really liked the Benelli Nove camo in real tree max 5. It f...elt great swinging up to my shoulder, I thought it was great. $500 bucks, $150 MORE than I was planning on spending, but I thought ok, it’s a Benelli, it’s my first shotgun I ever bought new. So I pulled the trigger, and bought it. About 2 weeks later we had an opportunity to test it out and shoot some paper targets to pattern the gun, see how it shoots, test it! Guess what? It wouldn’t fire! 6-7 times off of a sled. Yep, nothing! Really Benelli? Brand new from Bass pro right here in St. Charles Mo. We had new shells, Winchester and Remington, both turkey loads. No dimple on the primer, what a joke! Finally with some field loads we got it to shoot , but only about 90% of the time, then some of the Winchester turkey loads worked, then some Remington worked, then, CLICK, nothing. Some being a key word here, one should not own any gun that only shoots sometimes. It must fire every single time. This is not acceptable. I understand things happen and that’s why I returned it to Bass pro so they could send it back to Benelli. What they should have done is apologize and offer to refund my $500 bucks or ask me if I would like to exchange for something different and then deal with Benelli or get credit because they are a Benelli dealer. I bought the gun on March 24,2018, I returned the gun April 9th, 2018, they shipped it fed ex to Benelli on April 10, Turkey season started April 16, today is April 18, come on people! This could have been so much more simple, not to mention that the excitement And joy I had of owning my first Benelli shotgun, taking it turkey hunting, shooting it, was robbed from me all in the click of a trigger on a brand new gun. I can’t say what the end result will be in my situation but I can not say that I would recommend purchasing a Benelli, especially with so many other options. Read reviews, do your homework, talk to people, I did, but I made the wrong choice and that’s on me. Good luck! more

    Benelli Max-5 issues
To start this review, I have been mentoring under privileged young men and women for years now and one in particular loves to duck hunt. He always for his entire life had to borrow a gun to duck hunt. I recently purchase...d the Benelli A-5 nova for his 16th birthday. A dream come true for any young outdoors person. His first trip out however was anything but a dream. While all his friends were killing ducks he was setting in the blind trying to figure out why his gun was mis-firing. At first he thought it may be the shells, however he was shooting the same shells as his brother who was using an A-4 nova I purchased him the year before and his was shooting with no issues. Now I have to send this gun back which will take atlas 3 weeks while this kid who has had his heart broken by this incident. He had just been bragging about what a superior gun he had for this to happen. Not very good QC on Benelli's part if you ask me. more

I will never buy a benelli again
I have owned this gun for about 10 years now and have had multiple occasions where the firing pin sticks and the gun won't go off. I oil it down after every season so that is not the problem. I've missed countless turkey...'s because of this and had to watch them walk away or scare them off from pumping the gun multiple times hoping that one shell will go off. more

    Lots of Jams
So purchased the Nova in the 12ga model. Took it out to the range to shoot a few clay pigeons. About every 3rd round it would jam up. The round would get caught between the tube and the bolt. It was horrible. I immediate...ly realized I made a poor choice and purchase. more

    Great Gun
I got this for Christmas this year after much research and saw a lot of the reviews on the Nova. I put about 50 rounds through it so far and it was flawless. For the price of this Benelli it has exceeded my expectations ...by far. If your looking for your first 12 Gauge, get this one. You won't be disappointed at all. more

Most Reliable Shotgun on the Market
I've had my Nova for 6 years and have put it through the worst conditions imaginable while hunting ducks. No matter how wet, cold, or dirty it gets, it always cycles three rounds. It has outperformed 870's, A5's, SBE's, ...and many more. I always hear people complain about their gun not cycling shells, but I have fired thousands of rounds through my Nova and have never had it jam or anything. At 500 dollars, you're making a mistake buying anything else. more

I bought this shotgun last year. I have shot many rounds of slugs and 00buck. This gun is a real joy to shoot. i did put the 14oz recoil reducer in the butt stock. Great Pump Action
This gun was actually one of my first pump shotguns and I have to say I made the right choice. I never make a decision on a gun without extensive research. This pump action gives you the quality and reliability of a Bene...lli without the breaking the bank on a one of there Semi autos, but the price with Benelli's is completely worth it . Cycles great and never had any issues with it. SUPER simple breakdown and cleaning. Have not found a round this shotgun can't handle. This is a great gun
I've owned a Nova for several years. I've never had a problem with it. Not once. My dove hunting improved when I started using this gun. The only draw back is the black stock is hot on your face on a Florida early season... hunt. For that reason only I'd recommend a camo version. more

    awesome gun
I have had a nova pump with a 28" barrel for 4 years now. I have never had a problem with this gun, and I am a duck hunter who is not easy on my gun. Nothing beats the reliability of a pump action shotgun for duck h...unting in harsh conditions, and the nova is 0 up to the task. This gun is extremely simple to disassemble and clean, requiring no tools as the magazine cap also functions as a pin punch. While it is a little on the heavy side, the reliability cant be beat, especially for the money. This gun also shoulders and shoots very well. This is a great gun for a serious duck hunter who doesn't want to break the bank and wants extreme reliability in harsh conditions. more

    perfection at its finest
i have owned this shotgun for 2 years now and have shot about 2,000 shells out of this gun with no problems what so ever. cleaning is simple and easy, it takes about 10 seconds to completely take down this gun, and all y...ou need is a little wd-40 or transmission fuild to clean it. its so easy a caveman can do, no joke. its by far the best shotgun ive ever shot, a remington 870, mossberg 500 and evening high end borwnings dont compare to this gun on any level. its by far the best pump action shotgun on the market. if your looking into buying a pump action shotgun, you would be a fool to buy any other shotgun. the only con i can find, is not with the gun, its how munch the after market barrels are from benelli, there about as munch as the gun its self. more

The Nova is built like a true piece of European art- strong, unique, and reliable. The kick is slightly higher than what you'd expect from a 12-gauge, but it is easily compensated for with a buttpad. I,m stil looki...ng for the best shotgun load to shoot through it for turkeys but i know i,ll find one soon theres a great selection out there these days. more

    Awesome shotgun!
This is the fourth and last waterfowl gun I will own. The others I have had don't hold a candle to it. Some say it is ugly but pretty is as pretty does. It has been in the sand, mud, snow, freezing rain, and has never le...t me down. The camo finish has held up for several seasons of hard use. I have put several cases of heavy waterfowl loads through it without a single issue. With an extended pattern master choke in its mouth, birds don't have a chance. more

    Great pump!
I decided to trade in my 870 remington express due to constant jamming that I was experiencing and boy was I glad I did when I first shot the Nova. For the price, I feel it is hands down the best pump available out there.... Extremely easy to clean and take apart. The 26 inch barrel has served as an excellent bird hunting gun for me with both quail and dove. It has an excellent swing distribution to the gun. more

    Awesome gun !!
They got this one right ! I have had this gun for 2 seasons now without any problems. I waterfowl hunt and this gun has been abused, dropped in the mud, rain, sleet, snow, you name it and this things keeps on firing. I h...ave the 26" barrel and have taken two nice tom turckeys as well with this gun. I can't brag it up enough. Well worth the price. more

    Benelli Nova Pump- Great Gun
I have had my Benelli Nova for 5 years and it has worked great for me except the barrel has started to rust some from all the waterfowl hunting. I love the fact that I can use this gun for anything I want to hunt using g...ame loads to magnums. I have taken turkeys, pheasants, quail, ducks, and geese. I skeet shot with this gun as well. This shotgun is very easy to break down to clean.I plan to purchase another Benelli, but in full camo. more

Benelli sure built this one right!!!! I have owned this gun for 5 years and it is by far the easiest to take care of most indestructible boom stick I have ever seen. And at a great price. I would highly recommend this to... any one buying a pump shotgun. Look no further!!!!!!!!! more

    Benelli made another winner
Rugged, Reliable, Kinda ugly, though. It is simply an excellent gun. One feature that some may find very useful is the ability to eject the shell in the chamber without running the next round in. Almost gave it 4 stars f...or its looks, but its attributes as a great gun prompted me to give it a 5. more

    It's awesome!
My Nova works great, not one malfunction yet. Had it for, going on 3 seasons now. I almost took off one star due to the fact I don't enjoy shooting 3 1/2" shells out of it. But it's such a great gun I didn't. I didn...'t clean it after being out in the rain and mud and took it out again to see how well it holds up. I gotta say, the only things that rusted sort of was the allen screws holding the pump slides and a little bit of the barrel nut. But that's it, the action didn't rust, the barrel didn't since I have the Adv. Max4 camo Nova, inside the barrel didn't rust either. Thinking in retrospect I should have opted for the Comfortech stock, but before next season I'm just getting a softer more "jelly" buttpad, the one it comes with feels like you can use it for a fish whacker. I'm a guy who can take a punch, but not 25 in the same spot! more

Great Shotgun at a Great Price
It is one of the quickest cycling, if not the quickest cycling pump guns on the market. My 10 year old son loves it. The ability to unload the chamber only has been used alot. It does have a little sharper kick due to th...e thin recoil pad and light weight, but otherwise it is state of the art. Thank You! more

    Great Shotgun!
Not only do I own one, but both of my huntin buddies own then and we destroy the woodies and mergansers every time we hunt. Accurate, powerful, great stock sights, and indestructible to match! The gun looks amazing in th...e Realtree APGand feels like a true shotgun with a new ergonomic type feel to it too. If you're debating what shotgun to buy, you'll never regret buying this one! more

    This gun rocks
It may look like something from the movie Aliens, but this is a great shotgun. It's indestructible, shoots great, and I think it looks awesome. I use it for everything from shooting clays to hunting turkey.
