Beretta DT11 Skeet – test and review (by Vic Harker)
Beretta DT11 however, was not on a Skeet range, and with the tighter chokes provided shot some Sporting targets. This went well enough, but by then it was convinced that this Beretta’s barrels – joined at the muzzle ends by only 5cm of rib – would benefit from a touch more weight up front. A couple of barrel weights from my collection, affixed 45mm from the barrel’s muzzle ends, created an all-up weight of 3lbs 2oz from 2lbs 15oz – an increase of just 3oz – but what a difference it made. On domestic Skeet targets, with the gun’s point of balance now a fraction in front of the trunnions, I swung smoothly through them, and even on some of the faster ISSF kind there was still time to spare. ...more
This is my first Lever Action Rifle rnAnd I must say I’m very impressed with this gun, delivery was fast and easy thumbs up to Buds.rnThe rifle arrived in excellent condition I field stripped it cleaned it and took it to the range and was dead on at 100 yards, the action cycles very smooth the loading gate is very easy on the fingers, my first purchase from Buds and I’m sure it will not be my last! ...more
I waited to write this review until after I had sighted-in this rifle. Mechanically, the Henry Side-Gate is perfect. I loaded through the side-gate and the tube. The action is solid and feels like a well-engineered firearm. The sights needed no windage adjustment and only minor elevation fine-tuning. Soon I'll add a Leupold 1-4x scope to aid my aging eyes. Fit and finish is superb...the furniture meets the metal surfaces as I would expect from a high-end firearm. The checkering looks great and the Henry logo is very attractive. Blued metal is well done and the brass surfaces are free of swirl marks and any other blemishes. The butt plate did have a dull spot but I polished it out easily. After field-stripping the rifle and cleaning the bore I polished off the lubricant that is applied at the factory, resulting in a jewel of a firearm. The final touch was to attach a custom Henry sling from Henry Pride. I consider this Henry "best bang for the buck." This is my fourth Henry and continues my top-notch experience with the company. I have read the critical reviews and can only state that I have never had a poor experience with Henry. I own a variety of firearm brands and Henry has always been second to none. This was my first experience with Bud's and that also was first class. ...more
I was pretty excited when Henry finally came out with a lever action rifle with a side gate. Picked it up intending it to be a nice deer rifle for myself. Took it to the range and put about 40 rounds and shot great with the buck-horn sights. Unfortunately my lever action seemed to not be as smooth as what I've read from other owner's experience and would get hung up on the hammer on the way back into the receiver. Also, the brass on the butt of the rifle came scuffed which I thought wouldn't be a big deal and I'd be able to polish it off easily, which was not the case. I didn't bother to check the tube loader either before the FFL transfer, but that came tarnished already which was disappointing but it wasn't anything some Brasso couldn't take care of I'm sure. I contacted Henry, and of course they asked no questions and told me to send it in and they will take care of it. They also paid for the shipping so it only cost me the price of the packing box. I'm confident they will make it right, but for now I rated 3/5 as the rifle shoots great, but there were still some problems I had to deal with which was annoying given the premium price of this lever rifle. ...more
My first lever action & I'm totally impressed. This thing is absolutely beautiful! Like many, I swore that if Henry ever made a lever action with a brass receiver with a proper loading gate, I wold buy one... so I did. It was a major hit at my LGS when I picked it up & inspected it right there in the shop. (Had to wipe the drool off of it later ). rnMine is chambered in .30-30 but since it's my first lever action, I didn't have any ammo for it & my LGS was out of it too. So I took it home & field stripped & cleaned it up good. Good thing I checked before shooting it as there was lots of grease or other protectant in the barrel which needed to be removed first. (Did Henry really think one of these would sit on a shelf for years before someone bought it? These will move off the shelves fast IMHO) Also, the action was a little stiff - mostly because it's new & there was protectant slathered in there as well. Cleaned & lubed everything really really good & now the action runs smoother than a democrat campaign promise. Trigger is crisp & clean. Can't wait to get to the range & shoot it but somehow, I don't think I'll be disappointed.rnrnAs usual, Bud's Gun Shop made the sale really really easy & sent the rifle to my local FFL quicker than I thought possible. I had figured on about a week for delivery but it was here in like 3 days. Like Hickock45 says - Life is Good!rnrn ...more
