Heritage Firearms RR45B5 Description

Born of the traditions of the Old West, Rough Rider SA Revolver maintains much of the look and feel of the legendary Single-Action Army revolver in scaled-down versions. Manufactured using precision machinery to assure accuracy and reliability. Cylinder lock-ups are tight, and the perfect timing of the actions make for handguns that put shots where you want them. Machined barrels are microthreaded and inserted into the frame for the optimal barrel/cylinder gap to give you maximum ammunition performance. A hammer block mounted in the recoil shield provides extra protection and has a red-dot indicator that lets you know when the gun is ready for action. All Heritage revolvers combine quality with affordability. Made in USA.

    Worth it
This thing is pretty sweet. It works great with no problems. I know people have gotten some with flaws but mine is excellent. I had seen pictures and videos of these before, but If I had seen what they look like in perso...n for the price point, I would have gotten one a long time ago. more

    returned 9 shot mulfuctioning revolver
Update!!!!!!! I finally received an email from Heritage stating that it was a 12 week return on repairs. Shortly afterwards I received my Rough rider. So glad to get it back and it 's working perfect. In all fairness to ...Heritage I gave them 3 stars because of lack of communication with buyer. Great gun though. more

The problems are normal?? Service Rep says "Yes!"
I purchased this 9-shot revolver when Cabelas had them on sale and am now pretty sad I did. I found that the hammer will easily fall on the third click (should ONLY fall on the fourth) and the cylinder won't line up for ...loading and unloading. You have to manually hold the cylinder in the correct place to insert or eject a shell. more

    returned 9 shot mulfuctioning revolver
Terrible service repair. I purchased one of these 9 shot revolvers new from local store and immediately had problems. Barrel was loose so i locktited it. Extracting rod would not line up with chambers. One cylinder would... not fully lock up in position to fire and caused multiple misfires. I sent it back to Heritage and as of today it's been almost two months and no response. I've tried calling about 10 times with no answer and I've sent three emails with absolutely no response. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Not sure if I'll ever see the gun again. Truly a poor way to run a service department. Even left my phone # and no response. more

    Great pistol
I really like this gun. It fits in my hand very well, no rough edges, good finish. The gun is easy to use and clean. I like the second cylinder for 22 mag. It's fun to shoot easy to shoot and great to show younger people... how to shoot with. more

    Sweet!
Bought one, not expecting very much because of the low price, and was pleasantly supprised at the quality and accuracy. I shot 3" groups at 25yards with one hand. As accurate as my more expensive semi-auto.Put over ...200 rounds through it the first time out. Very pleased. more

    Cylinder doesn't Lock up
As received, when cocking the gun the trigger would latch without the cylinder being in alignment. The chamber was still covered by the barrel forcing cone but who knows where the bullet would go. It was off target by 14..." @ 20 ft on one shot. Sent it back to Taurus for repair and 6 weeks later it got back. Exactly the same. Repair report says they fired 12 each of LR and Mag. They obviously didn't read my explanation of the problem. If you cock just until the trigger latched, as you might if rapid firing, there was a miss alignment. If you be sure to pull the hammer all the way back the cylinder rotates to lockup. I want something to beat around in the ATV and as long as I know what to expect I can live with this until it completely fails. The gun has in good feel and is pretty accurate so it will work for my needs but will have to watch carefully and not let other use it. more

    Quality Control? Not from Heritage
First time purchasing a revolver and I am extremely disappointed with the manufacturing of this gun even for the cheap price. I would have to say Heritage has absolutely no QC. Took this gun out to shoot for the first ti...me and it was shooting 8 inches high. Thought is was me not knowing the sites of this revolver, lowered my point of aim and I couldn't see the front sight. That's when I realized the rear U sight channel was not cut fully to the rear - it was solid metal!!!. No way to aim this gun. Shame on me for not noticing it before I paid for it, but there is NO WAY this should have left their factory. Now I have to wait 12+ weeks for repairs because they have to fix that many of their poor products. Cheap price is no excuse either, I have a Mossberg Blaze at same price level and it is flawless in every way. more

    Nice Plinker
Bought this for two reasons ... (1) Wanted a fun single action plinker that wouldn't break the bank and (2) wanted a 22 to carry when working out on the farm or deer lease that I wouldn't worry about nicking or getting a... bit dirty. This gun fills both requirements quite nicely. I bought the 6 inch barrel. I put 200 rounds through it at the range when I got it. It has good weight and balance and no noticeable recoil. With fixed sights, it's as accurate as your skill as a shooter. Took me about 20 rounds to get the feel of it and after that I was quite accurate with it. My only complaint (and the reason I gave it 4 stars) is the "Read the manual before use" stamped into the frame below the cylinder. Really? Totally unnecessary. more

    Not worth the headaches
This item just isn't designed well enough to warrant spending even entry level money on it. Unless you want to gain experience repairing guns. Less than 200 rounds in(over 3 years- so no warranty), I have the standard is...sue everyone else has reported with it. The flat spring that pushes against the cylinder control arm snapped inside the gun. The cylinder spins free and the gun won't fire. I am going to order the spring and do it myself since there are enough other people with this issue, that repair videos exist for this very thing. The gun is now sitting in 20 pieces on my table waiting for the spring to arrive. after that, it is going to the trash if it doesn't work. When it worked it was fun for a while. I write this off as a design defect(Cheap) vs. the part wearing out based on the number of others reporting this issue on other websites. more

    Heritage Rough Rider single-action .22
I have been wanting to get one of these for some time now. I bought the 4.75 inch barrel length just because I liked the looks of it better. I took it out to the range and fired off a couple of boxes of .22 ammo. I have ...never owned a single-action before and it took a little bit to get used to all the steps necessary to fire and reload the pistol. It was a lot of fun to shoot and it was pretty accurate. I didn't try the .22 mag cylinder this trip but will give it a try next time. The weight of the gun is 33.4 ounces and has a nice feel to it. The safety is in an odd place but after I use it a bit it should be fine. The fit and finish was surprisingly good for such an inexpensive gun. I figure that I will get several years of use from this gun and it might even inspire me to buy a .45 from Heritage down the road. more

    Beginners pistol
For a single action pistol it is good for beginners. forces them to take time with shots and learn to be conscious of operation of gun. The safety on a revolver is a bit redundant for an experienced gun user. and the sig...hts are not as adjustable as others out there. The gun is however good for a beginner to take there time, and a great asset to those experienced shooters, to introduce new shooters to revolvers. It is also affordable enough to utilize in poor conditions, and not be afraid of ruining an expensive investment. more

    Fun little plinker.
I like this little wheel gun for belt carry out in the sticks .... it's a lightweight back up to my big rifle. Plus, it's cheap to shoot and accurate enough for an open sight revolver. I keep the .22WMR cylinder in mine,... for some extra "umph" downrange. . Cabela's descriptions can be unclear, so I'd recommend you call if you are wondering whether this comes with the extra .22 Winchester Magnum cylinder, or just the single .22LR cylinder. They sell both the one and two cylinder versions, at various times, and are typically unclear about this detail in the description. These go on sale sometimes, deeply discounted. Be safe and have fun ! more

    Got a lemon
Got this for a black Friday sale from Cabela's a few years back. Shot it fairly quickly after that and the darn thing had parts come off of it. Because I was able to tighten things back up, no harm done. Purchased a 22 m...ag cylinder for it that did I not try to install until recently. It will drop in but it won't allow the gun to cock. Looked at the regular cylinder and noticed that the dang thing has been fitted to the gun. Got in touch with Heritage and was advised simply that the 22 mag cylinder doesn't have to be fitted and have a nice day. So, I was left in the cold. I obviously got a lemon (I would assume) because of all the good reviews. However, I will never be buying anything made by Heritage again. more

    great little hogleg
i picked up this little revolver 6 months ago and am very happy with it I ran more than 1000 rounds so far and zero problems. its just plain fun to shoot. it is patterned after the old S.A.A colts and you do have to use ...the load one skip one rule when carrying even though it has a hammer block it don't have a transfer bar, so an empty chamber is free insurance against shooting yourself in the foot or something worse happening. for the 200 dollar price tag you get a great little revolver with minimum end shake and great accuracy with a little practice I was able to destroy water bottles at 10 yards and chase spent shot shells with all six shots. more

A Great Shooter With Good Looks!
I bought 2 of these Heritage Rough Riders. One with the 4.75 inch barrel and the other with the 3.5 inch barrel. I found both of these revolvers to be accurate and very well balanced. The 3.5 inch barrel has the birds he...ad grip and I was pleasantly surprised with the feel. Both of these guns a great shooters and make perfect camp guns. With the .22 Magnum cylinder, they make a fairly potent close range protection gun out in the sticks. The finish is very good for the price. I did not buy these guns to sit in a glass case. They are every day shooters and if you clean them after each shooting, they will certainly perform for you. You can pay more, but for my needs for a reliable shooter, I could not have bought better. more

Why do you people keep saying "The PAINT wore off"? There is NO PAINT ON THE GUN. Never was and never will be.Let me say it one more time. " There is NO PAINT on the gun". The gun is "NOT PAINTED..." I'm 70 years old and have been shooting most of my life and the Heritage is one of the BEST guns you buy for the price. The grips are REAL WOOD, the gun is BLUED. "Not PAINTED" It's accurate, shoots every time and well balanced and NOT PAINTED. That's all. I'm done now. Go buy you a really good gun like the Heritage and just enjoy it. Oh..did I mention, "It's NOT PAINTED"? If not, let me say it now. "It's NOT PAINTED". Now I'm done....... I think. more

    hertiage SA rim fire revolver
I bought this pistol online through Cabela's. I rec'd communications on when to expect it's arrival. It arrived timely. The pickup was painless. I also ordered the .22 mag cylinder and rec'd it quickly. I took it to the ...range and fired 3 cylinders of 22 long rifle and 3 cylinders of .22 mag at a ten yard target. This were no issues with loading or firing of the pistol. The pistol was as accurate as could be expected with the type of sights it came with. I did shoot at cans about fifteen yards out and hit the cans more than I missed. On paper at 10 yards I had a couple of 2 inch groups. please read the instruction on the hammer position before attempting to load it. The pistol also has a safety on it which is nice too. Nice shooter
This is one of my favorite firearms. It's a lot of fun, and conserves your ammo, as opposed to a semi-auto, just due to what type of gun it is. Pretty darn accurate, even for a shooter like me who doesn't see so well any...more. Has no problems with any type of ammo. The only problem I have had is that after shooting a couple hundred rounds of magnum ammo every screw on the gun had loosened up, and one had fallen completely out. Heritage suggested loc-tite, so I have taken the gun apart and used purple loc-tite on each screw, hopefully that works, may have to switch to blue loctite, time will tell. Otherwise, I would recommend this gun to anyone, fun to shoot and inexpensive to purchase. more

    Great value for the money
I got the 4.75" barrel combo and often carry it around the property loaded with either 22LR or 22WMR because, apart from being a reliable and accurate shooter, the slightly downsized dimensions reduces bulkiness and... makes it light enough that I forget I'm wearing it. Complainers about cylinder lock up need to learn to pull the hammer back to half or full cock with a crisp and definite stroke. Tentative unsure handling tends to jam the cylinder and stress parts, so handling skills need to be practiced. One can also polish and tune the innards to minimize those issues. One review criticized the "paint" coming off too readily, and, sure, the bluing (not paint) on these guns is more of an after thought, but, frankly, on a bargain priced working gun it doesn't matter. Just keep it clean and oiled, handle it properly, and, even if a spring or other part will eventually need to be replaced, as with any well used gun, this Heritage should serve for a lifetime. more

This gun goes with me when hiking, hunting as a back-up and is always in my survival kit and back pack. It is solid, shoots accurate, and is durable. The best thing is it's a revolver and revolvers are more reliable. don...e! more

    Heritage .22 revolver
I bought this on a whim as a backup gun that would be dragged through the mountains. I am impressed with accuracy and ease of handling. After 300 rounds the cylinder finish is tarnished to a dull grey/black. Not a show p...iece but definitely reliable. more

    22 Mag. revoler
I was looking for an American made .22 Mag revolver. For the price an accuracy I am pleased. Plinking it can use shorts, longs or long rifle. With the two cylinders I have many options. Years ago I had one an was not imp...ressed but these new ones are much better. A piece of paper was put next to the cylinder an fired. No lead or powder burns on the paper. A good investment. more

    Great Fun
A very fun handgun that is very accurate. Purchased for a fun plinking gun but it has turned into a favorite hunter too. My Dad bought a .32 auto and he was upset when this ..22 was so much more accurate and it never mis...fires. I like it so much I just bought another. For the money it's a great buy. more

    Cowboy up
I own several cowboy action 45 long colts and 22 revolvers. This Rough Rider is fun to shoot and feels great in the hand. Nice and solid. I have shot over 500 rounds through it so far with no misfire. It liked winchester... ammo, but shot other brands as well without issue, I have the 4.75 inch barrel and it shoots pretty straight, target practiced with small targets and was about 90% on the mark, the other 10% was probably me. more

    Nice pistol
This is a nice little rim fire pistol. Since it is a .22, you can shoot it a lot for little cost (when you can get ammo). The workmanship and finish on this gun is top notch. I have had no issues with the gun not firing,... it always goes bang when I expect a bang and click when I expect a click. more

    first gun
I was also looking at Ruger Single Six, but the Ruger price tag was discouraging. The Cabelas store in Marysville only sold the 6 inch barrel version of the Rough Rider SA. I would have chosen 4 inch barrel if it would h...ave been available. I have shot 200 LR and 50 magnum rounds through it. PROS: +affordable, +safety feature. CONS: -paint wears off, -occasional cylinder lockup. more

    excellent inexpensive revolver
I have owned a Rough Rider for over 10 years. Its a solid, functioning revolver that is about 2/5 of the cost of a Ruger. Its not a Ruger, but its a good gun. I have used and abused this pistol. I have shot birdshot most...ly while hunting carpenter bees around my out buildings. Pretty fun. The birdshot is messy and I broke the ejector rod, that was a simple fix. And the birdshot has destroyed the barrel riflings which is not the pistols fault. I am getting a 2nd Rough Rider and it won't see birdshot. The magnum cylinder works fine. Its not pretty like the Ruger, but its about 2/5 the cost to. The pistol is fine accuracy wise. more

    Amazing Revolver!
I did a lot of research, and couldn't find a revolver that could beat this one! I was a little confused why it had a safety, but the gun is easy to manipulate and makes it easy to practice safe shooting. Some reviews sai...d that the first few hundred rounds weren't very accurate, but I have found otherwise. It is very fun to carry around, and looks real nice if you holster it in a Triple K Cheyenne Centerfire Revolver Holster. I was somewhat disappointed when I found that the bluing was rubbing off from drawing it from the holster throughout a week's use, but it just adds to the rugged look that this revolver has. This is the first revolver I have owned, and I can't imagine anything more I would want in a revolver. It gets you started on the right foot for just a handful of cash. more

Very happy with my purchasa and Tulalip Cabela;s gun staff. Thanks goes out to Don. more

Great gun, not just for the money!
I bought this gun about 3 years ago and absolutely love it. I've taken a number of grouse with it and have never had any problems on the range. Its accurate as all get out, great for teaching people how to shoot handguns... and I love the ability to convert to 22 mag. If I ever have the need for a second, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another and would definitely recommend it to my friends and family. more

    NICE REVOLVER / GOOD PRICE
Even though we have several handguns, my wife and I fight over this one when it comes to plinking. It's a lot of fun to shoot and a beautiful little revolver for the price. Ours is the 43/4" barrel with mother-of -p...earl birds head grips. It's very accurate and fits perfectly in the hand. The safety makes it nice for teaching younger shooters and the magnum option takes this gun to another level. Very satisfied ! more

    Darn great revolver!
I just purchased this revolver yesterday, I got the fixed sight with the 4 3/4 inch barrel and Cocobolo grips. I can't believe the price is so low with both .22 LR and .22 Magnum cylinders, that's a great deal! I fits th...e hand great, points naturally, the action is crisp and the trigger has no grittyness or overtravel. Shooting this thing you just can't help to get a grin, it is so smooth! Completely lacking of recoil, eats any ammo you feed it and is dead accurate. I fed it Federals, Remingtons, CCI and Aguila ranging from 34 grains to 40 grains, solids and hollow points. It loads them and ejects them with the rod smoothly. From a rest at 25 yards it prints 2" groups all day. The frame is aluminum but the barrel and cylinders are steel so it should last a lifetime as the frame is much harder than the old brass frame revolvers which were much softer. This is a great bargain and great buy if you're looking for something cheap to shoot and keep the eye/trigger finger trained. It is also great for teaching the kids and the wife or the uninitiated as it doesn't intimidate them with noise or recoil. Buy one, you won't regret it!. more
