    Accurate and reliable
My marlin 795 shoots very very accurate with cci standard velocity ammo and my marlin xt bolt gun shoots extremely accurate with 40 g copper plated solid. If your rifle of any kind doesnt shoot accurately chances are you... havent found the right bullet going the right speed. That includes high powered rifles. Good luck! more

    Marlin 795
Purchased about 8 months ago, I'm glad I went with this one. It did jam a couple times but that was cheap ammo. I cleaned it good cycles like a top. You can't go wrong with this rifle, easy to dissasemble and accurate, a...lso polish the feeding ramp then hand it down a couple generations. more

    Okay for the money
Obviously it isn’t very expensive but it jams a little too much. No matter what ammo the magazine often has trouble loading in the final round, I’ve shot it many times so it’s definitely “broken in.”

Front site off set at 1 o'clock
1st Cabela's is trying to remedy my situation. Marlin 795. Opened the box looked through the site. Front site set at 1 o'clock not dead center. (Non adjustable).Looked at another 795 at store. It to was set at 1o'clock n...ot dead center. I rejected that one.Ordered another 795 On Line. It came in also with the front site at 1 o'clock not dead center I rejected that one also. That made 3 for 3 with defective front sitesPoor quality control. I called Marlin they said they herd of the problem an remedied the issue and to order another.(Marlin NO real help!) At this point I have my doubts.I will try one more time with an on line order. more

    Excellent plinker
This is a fantastic weapon, incredibly fun to shoot, and a great price vs some of the other 22 rifles available. Threw a 4x scope on this bad boy and was hitting targets 100 to 150 yards constantly. Eat whatever kind of ...ammo you throw at it, but as with most, your choice of ammo can lead to hang ups. more

    Great plinker
Bought this for the wife and I to have an inexpensive plinking rifle. Could hit soda cans from 10-15 yards right out of the box with the factory iron sights. Went through around 150 rounds, I had one FTE (federal bulk), ...and one FTF (federal bulk). I also shot around 30 CCI mini-mags and had 0 failures and tighter groups than with the federal bulk 325 box. But for the price, it's a reliable, fun, and light rifle that makes it inexpensive to practice marksmanship with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a well made yet inexpensive .22 rifle. more

    Marlin 795
I recently purchased this rifle for my 8 year old for Christmas and this is his first gun. At first, the rifle shot very well. After shooting through about 5 clips with expensive ammo, the gun locked up and wouldn't shoo...t after that. We cleaned it out and it jammed 5 more times. I'm very disappointed with this product. I know there our duds out there but when it comes to guns, safety and jamming on a "brand new gun" is not acceptable. I will be returning this product. more

    Soft-shooting rifle
Soft-shooting rifle with no recoil and very quiet report. Lightweight and easy to shoot, even for a very small stature person or young teen. The stock magazine is not very good in my opinion...it's nearly impossible to a...ctually get 10 rounds into it, and the only jam I had out of 100 rounds was with the stock magazine. Spend the $15 on the Promag 25 round magazine, you'll be glad you did. more

    Sweet Shooter
This was my first semi-auto .22 LR rifle, and it has become one of my absolute favorites to shoot. I have a Savage, Mossberg, and Henry, and only the henry is as accurate and flawless in operation. I have never had a jam... or mis-fire and that says something with how hard it is to get good quality .22 LR ammo, I have been forced to buy what I can find and sometimes it's pretty sorry ammo, but this rifle just keeps on shooting without complaint. I love the ease of cleaning and I decked it out with a nice scope and a bi-pod to make it look like a sniper rifle. I shoot at 4" targets at over 25 yards and just tear the bulleyes out. This is great beginners rifle or if your like me a great little rifle to target shoot, hunt small game, or pest control. more

    Very good gun
I got this gun oh about 6 years ago and i've put thousands of rounds through it at first it would jam up on a regular basis. Then I started using 40 grain and not a problem since. I did drop my clip in the snow yesterday... and it would not eject properly but, the snow was jammed in there so its not really the guns fault. Ive shot any things with this gun its a darn nice weapon. more

    very decent for the price
This was my first gun. I picked it up on a whim when my local store was out of the shotgun I wanted. Right out of the box, I was able to adjust it with the iron sights. I eventually put a scope on it, and it's a great sh...ooter. The problem I'm having with it is rather common misfires and rounds that either stovepipe or get stuck in the chamber after shot. I've been told it might be the ammo, I've been shooting the winchester bulk box ammo. According to other reviews here, this gun loves the federal ones. more

    Inexpensive Fun
Bought this for the boy. I end up using it more. Love the open sights. Reminds me of what I learned with. No misfires. Trigger is a tad bit heavy for me but safe for the kids. Well balanced and stock feels small in my ha...nds which is surprisingly nice and another plus for the kids. Spare 7 round mags are apparently hard for me to find. That's the reason for 4 stars.Love this rifle! more

    Great Gun
I've had this gun for about a year. Shot a bunch of different ammo through it. Winchester bulk 555, or Federal bulk, are the most consistent and accurate. Remington thunderbolt is terrible (dirty and lots of jams). The o...nly jams I have with the gun have been in extremely cold weather and I suspect I just need to use a different oil. I put a 3-9X32 on it and it shoots a 10 shot group of .75 to 1.25 inch at 50 meters. The spare magazines are relatively cheap. The gun is very easy to disassemble and clean (just youtube it). I had a 10-22 for years and this is definitely more accurate/consistent. This gun is compact and feels a bit small but that makes it very easy to handy. Overall no complaints. more

    Accurate but not without problems
First of all, when I purchased this rifle I didn't realize there was a difference with post Remington takeover 795s. If your sling swivel "studs" are molded into the plastic stock and not metal studs attached t...o the stock, it is a Remington manufactured model. All the reviews I read or watched were of the older models but at the time I didn't know the difference. more

If I could only have one 22 rifle, this would most likely be my selection. Don't get me wrong, I love my 10-22 and Ruger has one of the best warranties in the business, however, just bang for the buck as a consideration,... the Marlin wins. more

    Better than 5 stars!!
I picked up my 795 a couple years ago and I have been completely blown away by its quality and accuracy every time I take it out!! I have shot groups with a few friends with other 22's including one 10/22 custom with abo...ut $1100 into it and I have not once been disappointed! It outshot every gun except the custom 10/22, but I have far less in and his gun only shot expensive match ammo and mine was eating everything in sight and still grouping consistently. It will shoot any ammo that any other gun will plus often lots more (except Remington, but haven't found a rimfire that would).I can put as many rounds in the same ragged hole as I can hold steady for at 20 yards and can hit a tennis ball sized target 7/10 at 100 with no wind out of a cheap Simmons 3-9 (with AO, highly recommend AO for a rimfire!).I recommend this gun every chance I can and will surely pick up another some day or the Papoose model.Aftermarket is there but very small compared to 10/22, so don't get if u want a High end custom boutique rifle. That said I did pick up a Boyd's stock, DIP trigger and guard, and Promag hi cap mags which really made this thing a nice piece! (Switched back to factory stock until I can bed the Boyd's plus it is lighter for hunting but still like look and feel of the Boyd's)Great for birds or targets all day long and didn't break the bank!!Best ammo in mine has been CCI Standard Velocity 1st and cheap Blazer bulk (CCI lot numbers) 2nd then everything else 3rd. Even the worst is still good for 10 rounds inside a nickel at 25yards.Of all my guns this is still the most fun to bring out.Love it!!!!! more

    Move over 10/22?
This is the first firearm I have ever purchased. I feel I was quite lucky to have snagged one of these. It has no problem cycling through the right ammo. Many people obviously do not read the owners manual as the biggest... complaint is feeding issues caused by the wrong type of ammunition. You have to use HIGH VELOCITY rounds, not standard or hyper but HIGH VELOCITY. The only downside to this gun was the manufacturer had messed up installing the sights and now to get it to shoot on target I have to slide the forward end of my sight to the left in the groove. Good gun though, it out shoots most of the more expensive rifles I have handled including some oddball FN SCAR remake that cost as much as any three of my guns combined. more

    Nothing but feed problems
I like this gun alot, it's my first .22 and its super light and comfortable to hold. BUT first time out, I had nothing but jams and feeding issues. When it did work every other round, it was very accurate. Went back onli...ne and found out I had to clean the heck out of it, including removing the access paint from the inside of the bolt chamber, polishing and buffing the bolt and feed ramp to a super smooth finish and of course re oiling it.The mags feel cheap and can cut your thumb up pretty good if your not careful. I had to make a quick loader as there are none available.I bought some different kinds of ammo for the weekend and I am waiting to see if my issues have been resolved.I would not recommend this as a first gun owner. Not bad at all
I mounted a inexpensive Pursuit scope ($60) on this gun and was very please with accuracy once I got it sighted in properly. At 50 yrds I can usually can keep it in a 2 inch circle. Considering I am not a real great long... gun shot this is very acceptable. Only rare occasions of ejection failures and misfires. They also seem to be more prevalent on Remington Ammo for me. CCI is all but flawless in it, with Winchester being acceptable also. For $160 I just don't see how you can go wrong with this gun as a plinker or small varmint gun. more

    Underrated rifle
The marlin 795 is a quality .22 rifle for the price, very accurate and well made. I have put about 500 rounds through mine so far with only one malfunction (that’s right just one) and I was shooting cheep whinchester b...ulk ammo (CCI blazer is much better for the price) This rifle is easily just as good as the Ruger 10/22 at a fraction of the price. Aftermarket parts are limited compared to the Ruger but the Marlin is just as well built (in the USA) Even the mag is a quality, single stack chrome mag. Only complaint I have is the length of pull, a bit short for a person of 6 feet, but not a big deal, just get a slip on but extension and you are ready to go. Takedown is also simple, no need to remove the barrel (like the Savage 64) Quality rifle at a good price, good job Marlin keep up the good work. One more note, the action is based on the Marlin 60 perhaps you have herd of it. It has been sold since the 1960's and is a proven Design. more

    Biggest bang for your buck
I got this for Christmas and my grandpa got it with a case and all i did was put a cheap sling on it. I had to oil it a little bit before i took it to the range but after that it was awesome. It is very easy to take apar...t and put back together and it is very cheap to shoot. A good gift for a kid and it is very light, accurate, cheap, and a good size. If you get this gun make sure to clean the inside and oil the bolt because it is semi automatic and if you don't take care of it it will not be fun to have it jam on you after you pay for the range time. more

Cannot beat the price on this .22, shoots nicely out of the box, had a few FTF and FTE on the first 2 mags but after that it fired flawlessly. Sights are pretty terrible, they actually looked crooked to me and didnt line... up well but if you put a scope or a dot on this I think it will be great. Same jamming probs with finicky Rem ammo, switched to Federal and we had no issues, great sites, but adding a scope was really getting my teenagers excited.

    awesome
got this gun after thanksgiving and love it. its as accurate as you want it to be. only thing i dont like is there is not a ton of aftermarket upgrades, but its a 22. why would you want to dump hundreds of dollars into a... plinking rifle. I shot this other guys 10/22 and i wouldnt trade. i got mine for 115 PLUS a 25 rebate, so i paid 100 including tax. you cant beat that. the 1022 is twice the price and has no advantages. buy this gun if your thinking about a 22 and you wont regret it more

A great rifle for the money
This is an overall great weapon that has never let me down. There are a few things that I don't like about it, but they are nothing compared to the things that I like about it. It functions flawlessly, with no failures o...f any kind. I've fired nearly 3,000 rounds through mine so far and I've never had even one jam yet. The only thing I don't like about it is the stock, it is too small for me, though I'm a large built man. The stock also isn't balanced very well, but I have solved that problem by filling the butt cavity with cleaning patches and lead sinkers. Now it doesn't feel as cheap, but it is still too small. But that is my only complaint. It is exceptionally accurate and I can't complain about anything else about it. If you feed it the right kind of ammo you can put the entire clip through a 1.5" hole at 100yards. more

    Nice little rifle!
Nice little .22 using the CCI Mini Mag no problems at all .... strips and cleans easily ... action is smooth. I am not a fussy trigger guy most likely because most of my guns were issued, and as usual wicked service from... Cabelas! more

    Great first plinker
This is the first .22 I have ever owned and it has been really great so far. There have been a few issues that I have had to work out, like tearing it down and cleaning it out, and several misfires.Reviews on this gun sa...y you have to tear it down and clean it before you use it and I would recommend the same. I didn't and the bolt became very tight and would scratch the rounds as they were coming out of the mag. After a good cleaning it worked way better, but still had a few misfires.I have really enjoyed it so far and the open action on last round and accuracy of the gun are fantastic. more

Not quite a 5-star, but awfully close
Hated to give this great little gun less than 5 stars. It has several great features: lightweight, simple maintenance, low cost, good iron sites, etc. Only two negatives: it jams a little too easily and accesories are ha...rd to find and expensive. Between my son, daughter, and I, we have put about 150 rounds through it. Even with higher-end CCI high-mag ammo the ejected casing would occasionally get trapped in the chamber with the incoming round from the magazine. It took a Leatherman or screwdriver to unwedge the spent cartridge. This happened way more often with inexpensive Remington bulk ammo (I would avoid this type ammo for an automatic). more

    Best Bang for the Buck!!
I bought the .22 Marlin rifle for the kids to learn to shoot. I had a decent quality rimfire scope mounted. We finally had the opportunity to take it to the range and it shot great!! Had it sighted in after the kids shot... a few rounds. We probably shot 150-200 rounds and only had one FTE. For the money, this is a safe, worthwhile purchase. more

    great little rifle
It's very accurate, very handy, and reliable. I have had no problems with even standard ammo even though high velocity ammo like CCI Minimags are recommended. Wolf MT was very accurate and cycled the action just fine.

    Great little gun
This is a great little plinkster for the price. I have owned it for just over a year now and have fired a few thousand rounds through it. This semi doesn't seem to be picky on which brand of ammo I put through it. There ...is nothing fancy about it by any means but it does the job well. My only real complaint is the lack of magazines available for it. The magazine it came with is of good quality I just wish there were bigger stainless steel ones available for it. more

    great gun
bought this gun as a starter for fun fishing and plinking trips. when I picked up the gun I got a value pack of Remington gold 22lr ammo...that was a mistake. the gun jamed at least a dozon times, making me think I made ...a bad purchase. That is not the case. I picked up a brick of cci blazer ammo and just finished that off with not a single jam or misfire. the lesson is to buy quality ammo. The gun has been great fun, very accurate and easy to disassemble and clean more

    Ton of fun
Very light weight and compact. Get extra clips the day you pick up the gun. The clips are AAA+ high quality 10 round cap.I tried The big three bulk ammo in it Remington, Winchester, Federal, and had the best results with... the Winchester. Slow fire groups at 30 yards Quarter size. Rapid fire 30 yard group saucer plate. Over 1000 rounds since new and no problems. Did upgrade sights to true glow and it made all the difference on sight in and group size.Got this for my wife, But I almost always take it to the range. Nice .22 for the price grab one, love plinking with it. more

    Great Buy!
I bought this rifle last spring when it was on sale, and have completely fallen in love with it. The only bad thing was that the rear sight would not adjust to where it needed to be to be dead accurate. If I moved it a n...otch up, it was too high. If I moved it a notch down, it was too low. My brother bought the identical gun however, and his shoots perfect. I bought a scope for mine and now I'm picking of empty shotgun shell hulls at 50+ yds. GREAT RIFLE!! more

    Marlin 795
Excellent gun.I always wanted a 22, decided to buy one. I struggled between this and the 10/22. For 125 including rebate, I chose this one over the overpriced 10/22. I have no desire to mod out my guns, so the accurate, ...reliable Marlin was the best choice.First trip to the range and only one problem. Not the gun, but ammo. Bullet was hit, did not fire.(cheap brick ammo) Out of the box, it was off to the right about 2 " at 50 yards. Simple adjustment, it was dead on. Purchased a Bushnell rimfire scope. Super easy install on the dovetail. For 150 total, I have a great setup and one accurate reliable gun for fun and small game. more

Marlin 60SS Great Buy, Great Gun
I bought one of these in blue on sale yesterday at $100 bucks off the regular price and no interest until 8/2011 on the Cabelas Visa. I am very impressed with this gun. I've had no jams or misfires with the Remington bul...k Golden Bullet (cheap) ammo so far. I was consigned to the fact that I would probably have to use Mini Mags in this gun if I did not want frequent jams. more

    Accurate and Light
I own the Model 60 and this gun is a beauty and accurate as any high powered rifle I've ever owned. The stock sights are great and i didn't even have to touch them. When i got this rifle it had a 4X20 scope on it and I p...refer the iron sights to it. Im killin bricks and squirrels at 55 yards! Don't shoot subsonic ammo through it though, because the ammo won't cycle as well. I suggest CCI Velicitors for this rifle, but any high velocity round works amazing. I love this gun and any Marlin on the market. You can choose between the Ruger 10/22 and this and either are a great choice. If you don't know what auto .22 to buy, you'll love this one! more

Awesome .22 and a classic! This gun along with the Ruger 10/22 in my opinion are the best .22s ever made! Use quality .22 ammo like the CCI stingers and this .22 is consistant and smooth! I teach Rifle Marksmanship, and we have several of these as Student Loaners, and they are great rifles. One has over 6,000 rounds through it, and another over 11,000, and both still work fine. Nothing but fun! The batter...y-of-arms on the Marlin 795 is very easy to become proficient with. While there are many of the competitor's rifles on the line too, most don't have automatic last-shot hold open (The Marlin does).
