    Accurate with Iron Sights
This rifle really impressed me. (my first online review). I took the Marlin 30-30 out the box and was really surprised how accurate it was with the iron sites and factory ammo. Nice. Feels great. Lever a little stiff but... will get better with time I'm sure. Good low cost gun to hunt. more

    great hunt
I took mine for it's first hunt 2 years ago, bought it 2 years before and just had too many rifles to hunt with. Long story short....10-15 min. into my morning hunt I downed a 325 pound wild hog at 45 yards and 10 m...in. after that an 8 point beer at 40 yards :) My hunting weekend was over in 30 min. Skinning, gutting and quartering took 7 hrs. :( Sweet rifle and even better... the prices and quality at Academy. I'll be back soon :) more

    It does not rust
I bought this rifle and shot it twice. Put about 200 rounds through the rifle. The quality is good. I cleaned my rifle every time after shooting. It does not rust. I recently updated the scope rail, springs and the sight.... I took the rifle into parts many times, never seen a single rusting spot. I live in north Georgia, and it is raining badly recently, my rifle is fine. For the price of 400 bucks, you cannot get anything better than this America iconic Rifle. more

    Rust?
What i dont understand, is that some say this rifle rusts. I wonder if they just arent taking care of it correctly... My 336w (not the compact), which i am very happy with, hasn't rusted at all, I've owned it f...or about a year and a half. I've already went out on 4 trips, one of which rained quite a bit. I did clean the inside (of course) but all i've done is run a rem wipe over it and that was 3 months ago that i last did it. zero rust on the inside as well as the outside of the barrel and rifle in whole. Very nice rifle, the iron sights are amazing, love them, by far one of my fav.'s as far as iron sights are concerned. For the price it is a great gun! About 6 months in i recommended it to a friend, and funny thing is that his has yet to rust either... more

    nice shooting rifle
Great lever action deer/hog gun. Every hunter should have at least one trusty lever action and Academy is the place to find the right cowboy gun for your needs. I chose a Vortex 3X9 scope which works well. Gun shoots acc...urately with not much recoil. I've put about 2 boxes through it at the range over 2 weekends. Can't wait to hunt with it this year. Should be easy to maneuver in the deer stand. Sighted mine in at 100 yds with Remington 150 gr. Core-Lokt. Couldn't be happier! more

    great value for money
I bought this rifle for shooting range not for hunting , way the marlin made this lever action carbine is cost down product this rifle barrel is matter finish when wet its rust , make sure oiled and clean after the shoot...ing or hunting, beside that this carbine is great rifle I really enjoy shooting with it. another great about this rifle is side ejection so you can put scope on it, any other lever action rifle is top ejection . more

    Learn from my mistake
Don't be fooled by the price. Spend a few extras dollars and get the C model, unless you want to spend your days chasing the rust, or spending extra money on a better protective coating.

    Workhorse / Value Rifle
This was my first rifle, I do not claim to be a gun expert by any means. But, I've had this 336W for a little over a year and couldn't be happier. For what I consider to be an "entry level" rifle, it&...#039;s accurate, reliable, effective (I've dropped 200lb hogs and bucks in their tracks), and overall very FUN to shoot. Very happy customer. I added a 2-7x32mm Nikon ProStaff scoped and a "hammer extension" to my setup. more

    Best Lever Action 30 30
This gun is by far the best lever action 30 30 on the market. Side eject allows for mounting scope unlike other manufacturers top eject. Great for deer hunting, this gun is a great starter gun for young hunters and is an... heir loom in many families. more

    Buyers Beware
Both my father and grand father have Marlin 336C that are almost 50yrs old and still look and work like they are just out of the box so i figured why not buy one for a great bush gun. I oiled it down and once it was sigh...ted in i was very imprested by its grouping at 100yards. I took my new Marlin 336W out to shoot some wild hogs which i killed 1 at about 75yards and another at about 65yards (it was raining), so automtically i was hooked and loved the rifle. Much to my suprise i became very angered to see that over night the barrel had rusted in 3 places (i cleaned and oiled it shortly after the hunt). I looked up the problem and now have to spend $200 to cerakote the rifle to prevent rust in my wet climate. Buy the 336C not the 336W!!! more

    Great Rifle
Great gun for deer and hogs. This gun has kept my freeze full of meat. I've made shots from 35 yards to 150 yards with this gun. My gun is more accurate with the 150 grain ammo but it cycle both fine. Three hogs, tw...o does and a nice buck this year with iron sights. more

One of the best hunting rifles out there.
This is a very effective rifle from within 200 yds and it is easy to handle and shoot when in tight spaces. Recoil Is light to moderate, so I am not uncomfortable shooting it in the tree stand or the tripod. I love that ...it holds seven shots without having to reload. Also I love that I can get hunting ammo for it without going to a gun store. I even bought ammo at a gas station once when I happened to forget my extra box. more

    Great Investment!
I bought this rifle over a year ago, and at first I wasn't that good with it. After I put a better scope on it, I started shooting tighter groups. I put 20 rds in a 2" circle at 50 yds, and now I am trying to d...o the same at 100 yds. It handles real well, and take down and cleaning is no problem at all. I have used several brands of ammo, and as far as I can tell, they all work equally well. Looking forward to my first hog hunt with my father-in-law. more

    The Perfect Brush Gun
My Marlin 336 rifle is a beauty. The 30-30 cartridge is accurate and completley deadly. The recoil is fairly light. I have taken many whitetail deer up to 200 yards with the new LeverEvolution ammunition. Wild Hogs are n...o problem the quick cycling of the gun teamed with the iron sights allows quick target acquisition I have dropped two pigs standing next to one another at 75 yards after my dog spotted them out. This firearm is rugged, dependable, and will last an entire lifetime. You may pass this gun on to your son or daughter. I recommend every boys first deer rifle be a Marlin 336 in 30-30. more

    A Classic
The 336 is a now-classic rifle that Marlin built its reputation on. It has been flawless for all of its 62 rounds. I haven't tried any of the newer Hornady LeveRevolution, but it feeds and fires the soft-point Remin...gton, Winchester, and Federal just fine. The mechanics and take-down are simple, and it's just a real joy to shoot. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so I may change the sights at some point, but the factory sights are certainly adequate. more

    Solid Gun
I purchased my model 336 Marlin 30-30 two years ago for deer and pig hunting in NW Arkansas. I brought it to the local range and was able to hit 3" patterns at 100 yards with the iron sights. I have taken 4 White Ta...il with it on 4 shots all between 30 and 75 yards and all fell within 10 yards of impact. I have not seen or gotten a shot off at any pig but maybe one day. I recommend this rifle and round for deer hunting in brush, thick woods, or open fields within 100-125 yards. It winner in my book. more

I also have a glenfield 30a.. it is a 1976 model, purchased from a local pawn shop a fewvyears ago, covered in rust, oiled it up and ran a cleaning rag through barrel and am shooting 20 oz soda bottles at 75 to 100 yards... with open sights, no jams yet.  Best rifle i own.  Also very little recoil. more

    Nice gun!
This gun is really high quality for the money. I was looking for my first deer/pig rifle and researched every bolt action and caliber under $400 but kept coming back to the quality of the marlin. The 30-30 may not be as ...powerful as some others but with leverevolution it still hits with over 1000 ft/lbs at 300 yards, that's plenty! It's a lot more fun to shoot than a bolt action and the quality is great! Beautiful gun, looks twice as expensive. 1" groups at 100 yards easy with cheap Simmons 8point scope. I love this gun. I have shot 4 types of ammo with 0 issues. Buy it now if you hunt under 300 yards. more

I bought the Glenfield 30A back in the early 80's. Exact same rifle with a different wood for the stock and forearm. This rifle is always my go to one for deer hunting in the Texas hill country. Great for wild pig h...unting too!! Great gun. more

    Excellent Quality and Price
I purchased this 30-30 lever-action rifle for my girlfriend as a Christmas present last year. She loves shooting it and the weight of the rifle, plus it's fairly accurate up to 100 yards. Easy to mount a scope, alth...ough not as fun since these lever-actions traditionally run with iron sights perfectly and aren't meant for extreme hunting at long ranges. Ammo is decently priced at around $14 a box of 20 with round tip bullets to not scratch up the interior of the action as rounds are pushed up and into the barrel. Great buy for anyone who wants their first rifle and enjoys hunting up to a deer sized game. more

    Great gun!
I tell you what; I bought this gun back in 1972 for exactly $79 plus tax and it is still working like a charm. The gun is exactly 40 years old and you would think I bought it yesterday. It has a little kick to it, but it... aint nothing compared to some rifles. It is 100% dead accurate. Great for dense woods deer hunting. I recommend this weapon to anyone. It might not be on the cheap side, but its worth every penny. more

American Classic, everyone should own one.
Tube fed, lever action, side ejection, easy scope mount, light weight and perfect for deer and boar hunting in the brush. Out to 150 yards, has plenty of umph to take down deer. With the new Hornady Lever Evolution soft ...ballistic tipped bullet, accuracy got a whole lot better, brings the venerable old .30-30 competitive for hunting again. Love the lever action for quick follow up shots and the extra capacity of the tube magazine. Also a good, gentle recoil rifle for ladies and youngsters to start hunting with. Still great price compared to the competetion for an American made legacy rifle. more
