Accurate, easy to maneuver. This is a great compact rifle, not just for kids or small people.

Better off getting a Big Henry. Marlin's quality has gone down the tube since the acquisition by Remington/Cerburus. Functional but forearm kept slipping forward under recoil.

Great compact field/woods rifle. Action cycles smooth and fit and finish are pretty good for a Freedom Group firearm. Added a sling and ammo sleeve. Plan on getting it threaded for my suppressor because suppressed lever ...guns are just badass. Gonna be a deer rifle. Buds was awesome as usual. more

Some good and some not so good. First off the action was fairly smooth and ammo fed reliably. The wood to metal fit is good. Big improvements over earlier Remington made Marlins. Now for the bad, the wood appeared to hav...e been stained, but no finish applied. I took the forend and butt stock off and put a coat of tung oil on each. I bought this rifle for my Godson to hunt with me and it should work fine. I mounted a Leupold 2x20 scope on it and it's a perfect fit for this smaller rifle. I tried several hand loads at 50 yards and got honest 1" groups, but I'm still working on zeroing it for 100 yards. more

    Not what they should be
I bought the 336 Stainless steel model a year ago to use for deer hunting. Always wanted a .30-30 lever gun and chose this rifle. After trying several Winchesters and Henry's, I went with this rifle because it was a bit ...cheaper. Another reason I had picked this rifle over a Henry or Winchester, is because it's a lot easier to mount a scope to it. I had heard after a few years with the merger of Marlin into the Freedom Group, the quality had gotten better (roughly 2013+ was supposedly better). However there are several quality issues that potential buyers NEED to be aware of, before deciding on this rifle. more

Everyone needs a 30-30 for their first deer gun! This beautiful 336 is my Son's. It has a little shorter stock for youth or the ladies. He doesn't want a scope, so the buckhorn sight must work as he has no problem deer each year more

Upon inspection I found small areas where the bluing wasn't done well and very small scratches here & there. The front sight is bent a little to the left, but I was planning on replacing that anyway. It certainly has a h...eavy trigger that I assume will break in with use. Overall not 5 stars, but still worthwhile when you can get it at a lost cost and with a Marlin rebate! more

Quality lost with Remington behind the wheel
Just got my 336Y Marlin 30-30 the other day, took it to the range and very disappointed. Heavy trigger. My son couldn't pull it with one finger. Scale has it at 7 1/8 lbs, way too heavy. The magazine gate spring is very ...heavy as well, very difficult to feed rounds into the gun. The second round I tried to chamber jammed in the magazine, with the round head against the rear lower area, out of reach of the lifter. I had to nudge it with a precision screw driver to get it where the lifter could reach it. All in all, a gun that should never have left the factory. This is the second gun under Remington that has been junk out of the box (also had an H&R .444 with a 12 lb trigger and bad head space that they 'fixed' putting the trigger down to 2.5 lbs, too light to reliably engage the transfer bar. They're response when I got it back 2 months later? It's now out of warranty, but we'd be happy to evaluate it at your expense and make a repair...). This one is going to the factory for repair immediately, and this is my last purchase of any firearm managed under the Remington umbrella. My next Lever gun will be a Henry. It's too bad, it's a nice looking gun, and 20 years ago, under Marlin, it would have been a great gun, like the other two Marlins I have in the safe... more

    Stainless Beauty
I bought the 336SS over a year ago. It's been to the range and gunsmith a few times. Overall, I love this rifle. But it took a little work to make it right. First change was the trigger. Eliminated the Marlin floppy trig...ger with a Wild West Trigger Happy mod. The original lever has sharp corners and was uncomfortable cocking. Swapped that out for a big loop lever from Wild West. First time at the range it was shooting 4-6 inches high at 50 yards. The windage was okay. Another trip to the gunsmith for a higher front sight. It shoots a 6 inch group at 100 yards now. That's a kill shot in my book. Wouldn't think of putting a scope on it. Ruin the looks. more

    336ss 30.30
I bought this rifle over the summer and finally got out to sight it in using Hornady's Leverlevolution ammo. The gun shoots great, feels great, good balance, great finish on hardware and furniture, but I cant see through... the sights worth a flip for a 100yds shot, so I am consistently shooting 18" high. Great gun
I have always wanted a lever action gun since I started hunting. My wife and kids bought this gun for me for a Christmas gift. When I first took it to shoot, I couldn't hit anything. I adjusted the front sight and it got... better but still not on target. I sent it in for repair and it came back. I took it and it shot really nicely. I'm a older guy so I put a scope on it and can cluster at 100 yards every time. It shoots nice, fun to shoot and a thrill to hunt with. more

Bought the 336W on January 26, 2017. Was assured the newer Marlin / Remington's were quality and reliable. On 2-8-17 at the range the lever broke and it jammed. It's off to the factory for repairs after firing about 100 ...rounds. I expect better quality and reliability. Will see how good customer service and repairs are performed. Likely going to trade it off. When I get it back. more

I just bought my 2nd Marlin 336Y (REM-LIN). I found the 1st one to have a very good build, wood/metal fit is good, the matt-finish is well done (this finish is employed to keep price down, after all this is a cheaper bas...ic model), the hardwood stocks are nice, the forearm is the smallest I have ever encountered on a Marlin (Winchester 94 like), the trigger pull and the action is good and smooth, the bolt is now black, and the accuracy is minute-of-clay-pigeon at 80 yards with factory sights (I'm adding a receiver sight, at that point I'll see how it really shoots). So you're asking WHY did I purchase a 2nd--because this is not a youth model, what we have is a factory built TRAPPER in 30/30 at a very good price (and I going to use the 2nd one for HD, I dislike a 12 gauge for that role). The short stock fits me well, same position I use on may AR-15, but if you don't like the stock go and buy a full-size. Because of it's size this Marlin 336Y is a great basic truck, camping, and HD rifle--I recommend that you buy it before they are gone--BUD'S as always is great... more

    crooked sites
I won this rifle in a raffle. The rear dovetail site is seriously crooked. Apparently from reading other reviews, this is a common occurrence with Marlin. I'm going to secure a picatinny mount and put a red dot on this r...ifle to make it more accurate. Really hard to shoot straight with the sites the way they came out of the box. Not at all impressed by Marlin's attention to detail and craftsmanship. Very hard rifle to load as well, if you have dainty hands don't buy this one. more

    Dont buy!!!
Beautiful firearm but it came with a manufactures defect. The hammer will not fully engage and gets stuck in the open position so you can't even chamber a round. Also the sling lug is crooked in the butt stock. The side ...of the box says Made in the USA by American craftsman. So my question is how did it make it through they're inspections after the firearm was manufactured? These American craftsman need to take a little more pride in their work if you ask me. Marlin is honoring they're warranty with a 4-6 week turn around. Wow what a disappointment. I've been wanting a lever gun since I was a kid and finally as an adult can afford one and what a letdown! more

    Only 10 rounds in
Picked it up in Black Friday for 399.97. Took it to the range today and put 10 rounds thought it and the gf put 3 through. I did 5 steady shots and 5 quick shots. Happy with my group even if 25 yards. (Gf was on paper bu...t way off) I'm using iron sites and will most likely keep it this way for a late season brush gun (if meat is in the freezer) .308 scoped will be my early season till I get a deer (can't miss and they don't run) can't wait till I can bring this out for a push or thinking I might try coyote hunt sense it cycles smooth and doesn't jump off target far. Given only ten rounds in don't take this review to heart . But so far I loved shooting it. more

    I'm addicted
Took my new 336SS 30 30 to the range for first time to break in. This is my first lever action - and I'm now addicted. Fired two shots, cleaned bore, repeated several times. Then sighted in scope at 50 yds. (sorry purist... - old guy with bad eyes). Much more accurate than I thought; not a tack driver but pulled some 2 inch or less groups at 50 and100 yards which is good for my barely adequate abilities.Action and trigger were both very smooth from shot one. The previous night I cleaned and lubed well and work the action a lot.Definitely in the top 3 of my collection in the fun to shoot category. Now I want another to make into a scout rifle.Have heard some complaints about new models since Remington takeover but the fit and finish on my are superb, and it operates flawlessly. more

    A Rough Start!
I had an old 336 that I sold and have regret ever since. So, I went to Bass Pro to purchase this 336W that they had on sale. I looked at the display model and I liked it a lot. I purchased one the same day. The clerk at ...the counter who was extremely nice and helpful verified the serial number on the gun to the one on the box, then sealed the box back up. When I got home and was in the process of putting the scope mounts on I discovered that the "Tang Screw" was missing. I called Marlin to report that it was missing and to get a replacement. The representative that I talked to did not seem surprised and took my information and said I will receive one in the mail in 7-10 business days. I then called Bass Pro and talked to a manager and she seemed like I was wasting her time and did not care. Hopefully she did talk to the Firearms Manager so they can look at there other 336's to verify that they are intact. I would not want someone else to experience this problem. Needless to say I have not shot my new firearm yet but I hope it shoots as great as the 336 i once owned. more

    Love my 336W
I just purchased a used 2014 Marlin 336W (blue steel, laminate stock) from Cabela's Gun Library, tried it for the first time today at a local range, and was very happy with the fit, finish, and performance. All of the mo...ving parts feel solid and smooth, the gun's nicely balanced, and it had zero problem with different brands of inexpensive factory ammo (I cycled a box of low-end Winchester and low-end Federal through it, both 170 grain). My grouping at 25 yards was nice and tight too, using just the factory's iron sights. Two other shooters also enjoyed tearing up targets with it. All of which is to say that I'm loving my 'Remlin'! ;-) more

Bought this for my 11 year old. He's a small guy, has trouble with full sized rifles. We have fired it about 50 times, and he has fallen in love with the gun. It did get jammed once, but I think it may have been user err...or. I plan to let him master his iron sights, spend a couple of seasons deer hunting with it, then we'll scope it for him if he wants. I am happy with the purchase and recommend this gun for younger/smaller shooters who want a lever gun. I've owned many Marlins thru the years and they've never failed me, expect this one will last a lifetime as well. Bought this rifle as part of a Marlin pair. The other being a 1895 45-70. Both to be set up as Scout rifles using XS Sight's rail and peep sight. 1895 install and zero went well. 336W did not. Great rifle
I bought this gun a couple years ago and have had no trouble with it at all. It is fun to shoot, compact and kicks like a mule. I would recommend a good recoil pad as it is so compact, there is not a lot of bulk to take ...the recoil for you. Very accurate and cheap to operate. Easy to clean and maintain. This gun is well made, cycles smoothly and shoots straight. If that isn't enough for you in a 30/30 lever, than I suggest you take up another hobby.

Went and picked up my marlin 336y at my FFL. and it was in new condition and very happy with it. I love the way it looks. It's hard to stop staring at it. Got this because my brother had a full-size old 336. when it was 16th birthday he let me shoot it.and that was the coolest rifle I had shot at the time. And since he passed away in 95. I always remembered that rifle and it reminds me of him. And that's very cool. Got the youth model because its small and handy for 25,50,75,100,150yards maybe 200yds with good ammo. And its smaller than my amd-65. Very pleased with purchase. thank you very much buds more

    accurate, but prone to jamming
I purchased a 336 SS 30-30 in 2009. I was very pleased with the accuracy of the rifle and the mild recoil made it an enjoyable rifle to shoot round after round at the range. It is relatively light and compact yet much accurate than typical 18.5 inch barrelled compact rifles of similar overall length. The stainless set up was very much appreciated after a long day stalking/tracking in the cold Saskatchewan bush where moisture and frost get all over the rifle. more

    Best gift from Santa
Santa brought me this gun , and one week later I harvested a BIG axis buck with a Remington 150gr CorLoc bullet. Perfect gun for taking deer at a feeder 100 yards away. Marlin® Model 336 Lever-Action Rifle 30-30
I recently purchased a Marlin 336 30-30 rifle, Cabela’s Lever action scope, and Hornady 160gr LeverRevolution ammunition. My dad used this gun to take down an 8 point Buck and two doe from 50 to 75 yards. He typically ...hunts with a 12ga shotgun and takes a deer a season. Needless to say he want be going back to the shotgun. The scope is easy to quickly get your eye on the target and does not fog up. The 336C works great with the scope and the Hornady ammo. I sighted the scope in at 100yards with no problems. All three products are great. more

    So far so good.
I had occasion this year (late 2013) to pick up a couple 30-30s in Marlin 336w and later 336c. The 336w has that parkerized finish that Remington uses on the SPS rifles. It was ok. The rifle had no issues with loading or... ejecting but the action felt a little rough. Was very accurate and chrony'd 2780fps with Hornady LE ammo. Only one screw for the front sight though and found this out when I put on a fiber optic and it was flimsy. The 336c is a better quality rifle, the action is very smooth, no probs with any function of the rifle. The only issue was the checkering on the pistol grip was a little smooth. I called Marlin who said they are starting production again of the XLR rifle in Dec 2013. more

    Love the Design
I have owned this gun a while now, and have killed numerous things with it. I shot a 160 pound deer and it traveled only 10 yards before falling. I have also shot many hogs with this gun including some over 180 lbs. This... gun is plenty potent at ranges up to 125 yards, but over that my confidence dwindles. But that is not really a short coming of the rifle but of the cartridge. more

    Good Rifle for the $
Bought this rifle in 2012. The finish is parkerized and can be susceptible to rusting. It is the same finish on Rem 700s bargain rifles. The front site has one screw and easily strips and the front stud on the barrel ban...d is not removeable. Action is sticky but ok. I cycled numerous rounds from it in both Hornady LeverEvolution and Win/Rem/Fed factory ammo. No probs. The accuracy was very good with a Williams peep site. It was particularly accurate with 170gr. Win ammo. Chronographed factory ammo out of the 20" barrel produced: Hornady LE 2450fps average and 170gr factory ammo showed 2215 to 2260 (PowerMax Bonded). more

    Excellent gun for the money
Marlin got a bullseye on the price! This simple, easy to use rifle is well-made and very accurate. Apart from the horrible iron sights - a flaw that can be corrected easily - there is nothing not to love with this rifle :... smooth action, awesome trigger with absolutely no creep, enough stopping power for most situations. Highly recommended! more

    It's a deer dropper!
I bought a 336W in late 2011. Came with variable scope and sling. I have not had a single problem with this rifle and took 2 deer in 2011 and 2 in 2012. I use Hornady 160 gr. flex tip ammo and the gun shoots like a laser.... Remington bought Marlin in 2007 and apparently the bugs have been worked out. Giddy up! more

    Good rifle now
I've been a shooter for 25 years but last year was my first deer season. The gun out of the box wouldn't cycle at all. I had to send it to a Remington repair center. 6 weeks later I got it back and they had adjusted the ...action and it cycles smoothly now. 4" groups at 100 yds with the iron sights. Nikon Prostaff scope zeroed in quickly to 1" groups at 100yds. Killed my first buck at 85 yards standing. Good shoulder shot but had to track him 150 yds. I may upgrade to a .35 Remington 336C to get more knock down power and a walnut instead of birchwood. I like the gun. Simple, accurate and easy to carry with a strap. And I don't have so much in it that I'm worried about scratching it. more

    Dead On
I just bought this gun for my 14yr old son to go hunting for his first time this year. It didn't come with a scope so that will be the next thing we'll get him. He and I shot it straight out of the box to see how bad the... sights were going to be. The gun is amazing, well balanced and the sights were "DEAD ON". I shot it prone and my son stood. Both of us had a nice tight grouping. I don't think it would've been any better with a scope on it. My son wants hunt with it without a scope this year to see how he does. I have a good feeling that this gun will never see a scope on it. We are very pleased with the purchase. I am thinking I might have to buy one next year. I would recommend this gun to everyone. more

First Lever Action Rifle I have bought
This rifle has a great action but the iron sights set up at the factory are way off. I had to put a scope on the rifle to get it to hit the target at 50 yds. At 25 yds using the iron sights while aiming at the bulls eye ...the shots went 4ins high and left. I started at the 50 yard targets then shifted to 25 yd one after a few shots. As a retired US Navy range master this rifle out of the box was not of high enough quality because of the sights. With a Scope it is an excellent shooting weapon.I bought it to go Feral Pig hunting on my farm in East Texas. more

    Great Lever action Brush Carbine
My first deer rifle was a Winchester pre 64 30/30.I bought it used in 1957and still have it. However, a year later my hunting buddy got a Marlin 336 in 30/30. That is when I got to make a true comparison of the two rifle...s. The first thing was how tight the Marlin action is and how much smoother it was compared to my 94. The Marlin didnt rattle like the 94 and made far less noise when operating the lever. The accuracy with the marlin was better than the 94 with the same ammo. The Marlin bolt and lever could be removed by a single screw. When I was in the Service I bought a new Marlin 336RC in 35 Rem. The scope on it now is a Leupold 1.5X5 VXlll. Before deer season I check the "O". Each time the first two bullets go into the same hole a 100 yds and the rest follow real close. Oh, and it kills deer too. I am not knocking the 94, it still a great old rifle but the Marlin is better. more

Fine rifle for the field or the range
I bought the 336W, that came with the sling and scope. Craftsmanship seemed good. The checkering is clear, the bluing is uniform and the action is smooth. With 160gr Leverevolution ammunition I managed 1.5" group 100 metres in the kneeling position. (Who has a firing rest with them in the field?) The scope mounting was a little loose, nothing a few turns of the wrench wouldn't fix. groups well
I have been hunting with lever guns since I began hunting as a boy. I recently replaced my old marlin 336 (which was a solid built rifle) with a 336w. I have taken this to the range and it was a decent rifle, but was not... what I expected from a marlin. I am hunting with the iron sights and they where not even close out of the box. I have them adjusted to the lowest setting possible and they are still high, the windage had to be tweaked and is fine now as long as it is not easily knocked off. After half a box of shells I also had to tighten the butt stock as it had began to loosen. Aside from the sights being off, the rifle grouped well and is comfortable to shoot. Time will tell with this gun how it hold up when hunting deer and black bear this fall, but it is decent for the price. Disappointed in the change in quality after being sold to Remington though more

    Poor Quality Rifle!
I bought a 336C a couple weeks ago, I took it out of the plastic and there was rust in the trigger mechanism. The rifle did not cycle properly and jammed every second shot between cycling. I could not squeeze the trigger... unless I also squeezed the lever to the butt stock because it wouldn't lock up. I sent it back, now on the second rifle after 40 shots, the butt was literally falling apart and was coming loose from the rifle, the magazine tube was coming loose after 20 shots and the rifle was not feeding properly because of this....I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RIFLE TO ANYONE! How the mighty have fallen
This is one of the all time great rifle designs, and for many years Marlin produced fine quality rifles, unfortunately last year they were purchased by remington and moved production to the remington factory. The quality... control is terrible. My brand new 336w Has burrs on the ejector and extractor that prevented the gun from feeding shells, the extractor was bent which prevented the gun from extracting fired shells, and the lever would not lock up. Unacceptable in a brand new rifle. Now that all the faulty parts have been replaced it is a good reliable rifle, but I was extremely disappointed in Marlins current Quality Control. Would recommend the Mossberg 464 or Rossi Rio Grande for a 30-30 lever in the same price range. Or buy a used 336. more

    Great first Deer Rifle
I'll let others debate the advantages of a bolt action rifle in larger calibers vs. a .30-.30 lever action. I own both types. My Marlin 336W is a good gun when stalking in the thick stuff (if I sit on stand over an open ...field I prefer my bolt action .308). If using your Marlin for deer hunting you will definitely want to check out Hornaday's LeverRevolution round. You can't beat the fun target shooting a lever action gives you. I've owned my Marlin for 4 years now and never had a problem. more

    Great american classic rifle
I love my new 336c that I got this year. The short length, and lighter weight for still hunting make it an ideal deer rifle, just as it always has been. I use the new Hornaday leverevolution ammo in mine, and it outgroup...s my Ruger M77 MKII, with sub moa at 100yds. Now with this new ammo, I think many will take another look at these great performing rifle's. The extended shooting range they give you, and extra downrange energy truly make's this a great all around rifle. Low recoil, and fast follow up shot's if needed, and great balance. The new crossbolt safety feature I use when loading and unloading, as that's a nice feature when you have to chamber each round. I use the standard hammer safety only while I'm hunting. My bolt gun is getting dusty. Not the best pic's, but you get the idea. I did a great 3 shot group with a perfect triangle, and all 3 touching at 100yds., and of course the camera was home. more

    Excellent Rifle - Affordable price
This gun is for everyone that are looking for a well build rifle at a super low price. The 30-30 caliber of the Marlin 336w is perfect for deer hunting and plinking. I've purchase this gun because I always wanted a "...;cowboy" rifle since I was a little boy and there I have it! Strong and durable mecanism, nice hardwood stock, padded sling, everything's there for having a great rifle. I'm the kinna guy that purchase and sell rifle often but this one is a keeper. Purchase one, you won't be disapointed. more

    Really a good gun
A great beginner deer rifle. Not a lot of kick when staring down the scope at your backstraps. Does the job easily, and when paired with the right ammo you can really take down a deer at a far range if needed. I would re...commend Hornady's LeveRevolution. They can do the job out to 200 yards easily. more

Cost me the 10 pointer of a lifetime
I bought one of these when I was in college and killed several nice bucks with it. With no warning what so ever it misfired (at 20 yards) on the largest 10 pointer I had seen up until that time. It had a bent firing pin ...and would shoot 3 or 4 times then misfire 3 or 4 times...only thing that saved it from being wrapped around a tree was a new Redfield scope I had just put on it. I had it fixed and sold it...have never forgiven the gun and never will. more

    Marlin 336C
When I first decided to buy a lever action rifle I looked at both the Winchester 94 and the Marlin 336C. I have had my Marlin 336C for 32 years and it is one of the sweetest, steadiest shooting rifles I've ever used. Whe...n I first bought it, I replaced the buckhorn site with a peep sight. During a lull in deer hunting, one day, set up a target at 200 yds and was able to put several rounds about 2" to the right of the bullseye. I recently swapped the peep sight with a scope. That and the hand loads my son has made using the 160 grain Hornady LeverRevolution round and I'm consistently shooting silver dollar size groups at 100 and 150 yds. Haven't tried 200 yds yet. This is one tough rifle. It's withstood a lot of abuse and several moves back and forth across the country while I was in the military. more

    Marlin 336C
The rifle I have is chambered in 30-30 Winchester, and is very accurate. I have a scope on this one. Shoots 1 inch groups from the bench at 100yds. Tried all kinds of 150 grain ammo and it consumes it with pleasure, with...out too much difference at the point of impact. The 160 grain Hornady Leverevolution - same great results. This rifle is amazing bargain. Perfect for brush hunting deer, woods rifle, adventure rifle, you name it! Nothing to dislike here... more

    Whats not to love
Bought one of these solid rifles in 35 Remington it shoots straight and works reliably and doesn't break your bank. The only obvious word of caution is, if you never used a lever gun in your life. Have an experienced per...son teach you proper lever gun safety if you value your life more than the firearm. That being said these type of guns will improve your hunting shooting experience and they are just plain fun. more

A fine rifle at a reasonable price
I have owned several Marlin 336's, two in 30-30 and two in 35 remington and all of them have been very accurate. I especially love the 30-30 winchester cartridge. My Marlin in this caliber is highly accurate with regular... ammo, and with the new hornady ammo, it rivals some bolt actions that I have owned. The Marlin 336 is inexpensive to own, to shoot and is a quality product. No wonder it is so popular! more

    Marlin 30 30
I recently used this gun on my first deer hunt. It belonged to my cousin and it performed really well. It is fairly compact and easy to carry in and out of the woods/tree. The simple design is good for a beginner or any ...hunter. more
