This hunk of Howdah did not command too much of my positive attention when I was first acquainted with it but in the end, it gained my respect. I am happy it exists for anyone who wants to have a unique backpack or home defense gun. I am glad that it is another fun gun out in the world able to give a positive range experience. The Pedersoli Howdah Hunter is a new addition to their extensive line of muzzle loading firearms. It's essentially a replica of the old English double barrel 4 Gauge pistols used by the British in India for hunting big game, particularly tigers. The original guns are prized among collectors today because of their elegance and impressive firepower.The story goes that they were the "ultimate weapon" that allowed some pampered British hunters to bring home trophies that had previously eluded all other hunters before them. However, there are no first-hand accounts on how well these guns were actually used on tiger hunts, how accurate they were or if they held up under stress. I'm not sure if this information is really important since it was long ago and the guns are only made to look like antiques. This gives the 4 Gauge far more power and range than any other gun of this size. While there are lots of double-barrelled hunting pistols available from other manufacturers, none have barrels longer than 12 inches. In fact, most only have barrels between 6-9 inches long. I'm not saying they don't make a mess when fired, but if you need to increase your accuracy over a great distancethis may be the ticket!The Pedersoli Howdah Hunter isn't made for everyone. The average shooter will probably struggle using it because of its weight and recoil, even in smaller calibers. It is more of a wall hanger for most people. But if you are looking for something that no one else hasthis may be your gun.
