Turkey's aren't safe within 50 yards of this shotgun. I didn't much like the red dot that came with this gun. I had thought of putting one of my EOTech sights on this. but settled on a Simmons 4x shotgun scope. At the range I used 3" #5 turkey shot and set up the scope at 50 yards. The pattern is perfect for turkeys. This shotgun cycles smoothly, is very easy on your shoulder and ergonomically pleasing to aim and shoot. No failures or jams of any kind. I highly recommend this shotgun and as always Buds was great. ...more

3 inch mags are great 3.5 super mags are unreliabl

Ther are a lot of negative reviews about the 870 floating around but don't write them off completely I've had a 3 inch magnum 12 870 for 20 years and never had a problem with it, but the 3.5 super magnum that I have now gotten rid off was a few months old when I started having problems with it, included jams and plenty of misfires. I know the magnums are great but my advice is to stay away from the super magnums ...more

Scope problem

The 870 shot flawlessly and patterned very well while sighting the scope. I fired several types of shells at 30-40-50 yards and settled on 3.5” Winchester Long Beards. The problem was after about 30 firings, the Red Dot scope front lense shattered. Cabela’s swiftly overnighted a replacement scope, which was entirely satisfactory. ...more

New Gun, Lots of problems

First of all cabelas had great customer service. I originally bought the gun, got it home, and when I pulled it out of the box there was a large scratch down the barrel. I called cabelas and the manager had me come back in and they changed the barrel for me. I got home and I cycled the gun a few times and the side eject broke and springs came loose. I called cabelas again and the manager told me to come back in so I can get a different gun. This one's going back to Remington. It also makes me really doubt the quality of remington's product. Cabelas did a great job though helping me through the poor product experience. ...more

I ordered this gun on Saturday afternoon and had it by the following Wednesday. Quick delivery. This gun is everything I expected and then some. Super easy and convenient experience with Buds and I will order from them again. Gun is factory-new as advertised. I saved close to $100 by purchasing this gun from Buds vs going to the store. Cant wait to get after some long beards this spring! A+++ service and product! Thanks Bud's!!!!!!!!!!! ...more

Versitile Hunting Tool

I Use 3 1/2 #5 shot and this Shotgun is a Turkey Harvesting Machine. Put in a Lead or Steel Choke and the 870 feels right at Home in a Goose Blind. Load Down and It has no Problem putting Rabbits and Squirrel On the table. Load up and a Hog is biting the dust. Add the Rifled choke and the Deer Stand is calling. Mine has the traditional Stock on It. And never complains that I use it for everything that I Hunt. Never Have had any feeding problems, with any of the Loads that I have Used. Remington, Federal, Winchester, Shot Shells all work just fine. ...more

I have been very pleased with the 870 SPS 12 Gauge Turkey Gun. The TruGlo scope needed a fair amount of adjusting, but it was no problem, and it has good visibility. I patterned the gun with Remington Longbeard XRs, choosing to replace the factory choke with an Indian Creek, and was really pleased with the groupings at 25+ yards -- tight and consistent in distribution of pellets. The gun is as light and short as it can be. The pistol grip took a bit of getting used to, but it is a huge help in stability and handling. Overall, a great product for the price, and a fine gun. ...more

Extremely Satisfied!!!

I purchased this shotgun a few weeks ago when it was on sale. Before I bought the gun, I was considering what choke to buy... Since then, I've shot the gun a few times and this is what I've decided... Shooting the gun as is, with the turkey/predator choke that was in the gun at purchase... Shooting Winchester Longbeard 3 inch #6's... I put 195 pellets in an 8.5" X 11" paper target at 45 yards... 77 of those in a 5.4" circle in the neck & head area. I see no reason to purchase anything else other than more Winchester Longbeards. This gun performs great and I love the fiber optic rifle sights. I highly recommend this product!!! ...more
