The Ruger 762x39 American is a great value for the money and when you get the AR15 Magwell Change ($25,00) from Ruger directly-(self install it) it is Excellent. While I initially had a "glitch" with the Order (I ordered another Rifle which was "out of stock") Buds straightend it out fairly and quickly almost immediately-and delivery was fast. Ive been buying from Buds for a few years (the prices are always about the best around- too close to quibble about) and they have always performed and this time-they even exceeded my own expectations-Thanks Buds- ...more

Cheap, cheap, cheap if you want chinese quality stamped made in USA than this gun is for you. Took this gun out of the box and put this gun together and the mag is 1/8 into the bolts pathway so the bolt can't seat and lock down with the empty mag in, The plastic looks like recycled milk jugs, the bolt at max extension for cartridge ejection is floppy and loose if your looking for a follow up shot that's quick your not going to get it. The button for bolt extraction for cleaning is really cheap and takes alot of force to get it to allow bolt removal. Can't say anything about accuracy as it can't be fired as is. If you want to get a new gun that has to be sent back to the manufacturer than buy a Ruger. This is my second Ruger in 5 years and both had to go back to Ruger because they were defective an Sp-101 357 that the cylinder wasnt calibrated to barrel and this Ranch 223. When it comes back from Ruger it's going to get sold to my gunshop in exchange for something worth shooting... ...more

I like it now. At first I didn't. Action was gritty. Not Ruger's finest work. If you are willing to put in some time and polish up the rough edges, it'll be a good shooter for you. I put a J E Machine Tech brake on it ($20-ish, excellent for the money), polished up the internals a bit, and sat and lapped the bolt to the rifle with some compound for a couple hundred cycles. Good now. Fun gun. Shoots the same ammo as my other toys, so it's more cost effective. I run with 5 and 10 round factory magazines. I have larger ones but they are in the way on the bench and aren't as easy to manipulate. Your scope geometry as it relates to height above receiver will play into your bolt love/hate relationship. Mount high and have more factory bolt clearance, mount low and have to be delicate with your bolt throws, or mount low and put an extended, swept bolt on (bolt handles can be swapped, plenty of after market love for these models) and be good to go. Experiment and see what works best for you. Accuracy is something I can't speak to. I run Russian steel cased ammo through mine and it's as accurate as I need it to be. I'm not "one ragged hole" shooting ever, so accuracy isn't my end game. ...more

Purchased this mainly because I had had an AK that I got rid of. But had a ton of ammo! this is a beautiful shooting gun At 100yards all shots take out the bullseye. As well as 150yards. To bad your rating only goes to Good!
