Ruger SR45 Features

The Ruger SR45 is a polymer-framed, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol that operates on a Browning-style short-recoil action with a tilting barrel.  These pistols were built with a 4.5 inch barrel paired with windage and elevation adjustable iron sights.  The polymer frame includes a Picatinny-style attachment rail just forward of the trigger guard allowing users to attach lasers and flashlights.

Ruger SR45 Capacity

The Ruger SR45 is chambered in .45 ACP and feeds from a double-stack, single-feed magazine with a standard capacity of 10 rounds.  Aftermarket magazine manufacturers offer larger magazines with capacities of 12, 13 and 15 rounds.  The SR45 was designed during the rush of users switching over to hollow-point ammo so Ruger designed the feed ramp to accept virtually all hollow-point loads as well as typical ball ammo.

Ruger SR45 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Ruger SR45 was one of the first big-name pistols to include so many ambidextrous controls including the safety and magazine release.  The mag release doesn’t even need to be switched as it can be engaged from either side.  The slide lock, however, is only located on the left side.  The slide includes grip serrations to aid the user when manually cycling the action.

Ruger SR45 Fit & Finish

The Ruger SR45 has a polymer frame and a stainless steel slide and barrel.  As is the case with every steel part Ruger manufactures, the slide and barrel are hardened to an incredible strength to ensure durability.  While contacting surfaces are honed, many of the outside surfaces are left a bit rough, and this makes the SR series of pistols excellent candidates for cerakote and duracoat customization.

Fit and Finish

Ruger SR45 Concealability

Concealability
The SR45 measures approximately 8 inches long, 5.5 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide making it about the same size as a typical 1911.  While concealment is far from impossible, it can definitely be tricky without a good holster, the right attire and proper placement.  The back of the frame under the slide is somewhat pointed, and this feature can cause discomfort when carrying at the 11 or 1 o’clock positions inside the belt.
