6mm Creedmore

First impression is 5 star. Great balance and great trigger. The reason it is not a five star all the way is of a tight chamber. With factory 103 eld it was pushing the bullet into the case from 2.794 to 2.720 and causing high pressure. With that being said it still was shooting 3/4 inch groups. I planned on handloading so the tight chamber wasn’t a concern for me but if you are not handloading it is a major concern! So with 87 grain handloads this rifle shoots under half moa groups all day. It also shot a witness 1inch group at 600 yards!! If Savage gets the tight chamber worked out with the 6mm Creedmore this is capable of shooting with rifles that are priced 10 times higher! ...more

Boringly Accurate

I chose this rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor with the sole intention of rebarreling to a custom handlapped barrel, but now that I have put some rounds through it i'm going to hold off for a while. The rifle I received with very little load work up with some H4350 will print 1/2moa using 4 shot load work up groups. The accutrigger adjusts down pretty darn light(my guess is close to 2lbs).This gun will flat out drive nails! The feed magazine below is also plenty long enough to seat bullets out for a longer C.O.A.L. if one would like. The only cons to this rifle is 1: The rifle seems to get a very light surface rust easily 2:The bolt is a tad rough( action could be smoother).3: The barrel break in required lots of elbow grease.Copper solvent was revealing bright blue patches even after only one shot. ...more

300WM is a shooter

I bought this in 300WM and it is a shooter! I for sure wouldn't hump this gun around hunting BUT I didn't buy it for that. It is a bench-rest/tactical rifle and it excels at it! Broke it in and my 4th group of handloads shot into .4moa. I will for sure be buying other calibers of this rifle. Well done Savage, well done Cabelas! ...more

AMAZING

I have been wanting to do some long range shooting for some time now. I purchased this rifle and had a Nikon Black FX 1000 6-24x50 with vortex scope mounts installed by Cabelas. I started with a 25 yard sight in. After a few adjustments it was dead on. I had access to a 1000 yard range with 50 yard intervals. the targets were steel silhouettes. I was using the Nikon spot on app for ballistic calculations. I hit every target out to 600 yards and called it a night. The next evening we headed back out to the range to pick up where we left off. First shot at 600 was a hit. 700,800,900,950 hits. I was having trouble hitting the 1000 yard pretty sure that was me. ...more

You need one

Puta cabellas 3x12 scope on and a muzzle break on and I was dinging a 4” gong at 200 meters, les recoil than my Ar, well mannard, predictable, excellent fitting, by far a great buy, Savage has done an excellent job on this one.

accurate rifle,rough barrel

I purchased this rifle in 300 winchester. After firing, I examined the bore with a Lyman borecam and observed over 100 pits. Cabelas returned the rifle to Savage for repair. The replacement barrel was also pitted with a rough internal finish. The rifle shoots well with five shot groups at 100 yards of approximatly 0.5 inches but cleaning is a huge time-consuming task as opposed to an "easy cleaning" 5R barrel. I would not recommend. ...more

Just OK

Overall the rifle is OK but Savage could have done a much better job on the functionally. The Bad1 - a 4 shot magazine? really? in .223 a nice varmint caliber but only 5 shots total.2 - single feeding is near impossible because of the design of the feed ramp or lack thereof. Feeding from the magazine works but if you want to reload and seat near the lands with bullets that exceed the magazine length it just doesn't work.3 - 1:9 twist, too slow for some of the heavier bullets to shoot at longer distances, 73 gr is max a 1:8 would have been better. The Good1 - great value2 - good trigger3 - accurate ...more

Excellent rifle for the price

I have put about 60 rounds of the Hornady ELD over the last 2 weekends. 0.5 MOA with the 87gr ELD. The only issue was the 20MOA rale. My Lepould VX-3i LRP 6-20x50 scope does not have enough down adjustment to zero at 200 yards. Corrected with a 10 MOA rale and some adjustment to the down adjustment on the scope. I have none of the issues noted in the previous reviews. I believe after working up some load it will punch holes. A great rifle for the money. I am looking forward to going to the 1000yd range. ...more

Dead on by the 4th shot

I purchased the 6.5 Creedmoor, got it on sale so no complaints about the price. Before even sighting in the rifle, I swapped out the factory stock with a Boyd's thumb hole feather weight. The factory Accustock appeared to be very impressive with the imbedded aluminum. I've just always wanted a Boyd's stock. The Boyd's stock was for a tapered barrel so I had to do some modifications with a Dremel tool to get the Savage heavy tapered barrel to fit. Sighted it in at 100 yards with a new Vortex Viper PST 6x24x50 scope and was dead on in 4 shots. The next two shots were on top of each other. Moved out to 200 yards and with no adjustment, was still in the bulls-eye. Until I can get to a longer range where I can really open it up I am satisfied with this rifle's performance. I would have given this rifle 5 stars but there seems to be a little too much play in the bolt action compared to my Remington 700 model. It is smooth when the magazine is empty but gets a little sticky when chambering a new round. It seems that the rear of the bolt drops ever so slightly which is causing the problem and you have to lift it for it to be smooth. It's really not that big a deal, I just noticed it when compare to my 700. ...more

disappointed

I purchased this rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. It was the first of two Savage rifle purchases I've made over the past few months and is the first Savage I have ever owned. It shoots great! achieved 1/2 moa with the first bullet, powder combo I tried. The accutrigger is fantastic until it doesn't work and there in lies the problem with this rifle. The adjustig spring on the accutrigger moves due to the recoil of the rifle and as it moves the trigger pull lessons until it gets to the point where it no longer holds the sear in the notch or it releases the sear from the notch when you depress the accurelease. In either case the rifle will not fire. The only remedy is to disassemble the rifle and readjust the accutrigger. I am lookiing for a fix for this, currently trying loctite. If that fails I have another fix in mind; I will replace the spring with a bolt and spring machined for that purpose. I have this same problem with both of my new Savage rifles. The rifle shoots too well not to recommend it, just be aware that you might have to fix it. ...more
