    Very solid gun
I bought this gun in 22-250 on Saturday and took it out to shoot on monday. The scope is very clear. The rings are a little on the cheap side but that's to be expected, the gun shot just fine and I was impressed with how... solid this gun feels in your hand, it may not be the best looking gun in the world but it does the job just fine. The only real complaint I have is bass pros terrible job at bore sighting. I could not hit paper at 100 yards. But with some help from a later bore sighter i was on paper and dialed in. (Ps. If you are a serious shooter I highly recommend investing in a later bore sighter.) more

    Great with a few upgrades
I harvested my biggest whitetail deer with this rifle, a 162" whitetail, the first season after I purchased it, so it is hard for me to criticize the rifle. Last year was my second season using the rifle and I misse...d a big 10 pointer. I had worked really hard to get that shot. I missed because the scope rings had come lose without my knowledge. The action on this rifle and the trigger are good. The scope is fine for any shots inside 300 yards, however do yourself a favor and replace the scope rings. The 308 has a decent amount of kick and in my experience the rings suck. more

    Purchased .30 - 06
Great gun.. A little on the light side (rifle weight) for this caliber. The butt stock pad is able to absorb a lot of the recoil. You definitely know you are shooting a 30 cal round but not painful. After shooting 50 rou...nds my shoulder was a bit tinder... But hey that is to be expected. I never pulled any left or right and I am by no means a trained expert.... Scope was fairly accurate out of the box. I only had to do major adjustments on elevations windage was almost center. more

    Excellent rifle
I bought my Savage 2 years ago now and am very happy with it. It is chambered in 243 and is very accurate with factory ammo and reloads. Originally bought it for coyotes , but have taken 2 nice bucks with it as well. Fit... and finish are good, Nikon scope is really nice, great clarity and excellent light transmission in low light. The accu trigger can't be beat, no creep and very crisp. And yes the only flaw is the magazine, you have to make sure it is locked in properly. Not a major problem, seems to get better the more it is used. No regrets, would recommend to anyone, plan on getting another one in different caliber.Like to mention the stock, other reviews complain it seems cheap, but it is very rugged, stands up to abuse in the bush, mud, snow and rain. more

    Poor quality all around
I got this rifle in .308 hoping for a decent budget hunting rifle. I took it to the range to sight the scope in, but had more trouble than expected. I figured that since I'm new to shooting I was the problem. Later reali...zed that the front scope mount was loose. I removed the scope to discover that one of the screws on the front scope mount wasn't threaded in, not could it be. The hole wasn't tapped properly. This was fixed by a gunsmith, and scope was reinstalled. more

This is one of the best rifles I have bought!
I have bought and sold many rifles over 20 years and my Trophy hunter 308 in SS was the first rifle I ever felt like I would never sell. I love mine so much after 6 years that I decided to get my son one as his first and... hopefully last rifle he will ever need. more

    Cheap detachable mag
I bought this rifle a year and some change ago. I had high hopes because my previous savage rifle 110 that I had. This rifle is accurate but good look with follow up shots, unfortunately when or if you need to take a sec...ond shot the magazine drops in the aft section causing the bolt not to chamber a round as the bolt goes forward. Been trying to contact savage to see what they recommend but so far they have not replied to any emails sent. Its too bad because I think the potential of this rifle is there, but if I cannot get this rifle fixed by next fall I will probably opt to trade or sell it for something else. more

    magazine problem
Bought this rifle based on the rave reviews of others. Went to prep rifle for a hunting trip and magazine wouldn't lock into stock. 3 times it fell out. out of frustration popped it in and then wouldn't eject- had to pry... out. will write a review on the rifle after I replace the magazine and actually get to fire it. Contacted Savage Arms customer service 3 times by email over the course of 3 weeks. May as well yelled out the window- no response. Really disappointing CS. more

    My new friend
I just started deer hunting though not my first rifle it is with a scope. After reviewing many rifles I went with the 30-06 version for it's versitility in the field. At first I had problems sighting it in so I took it t...o a gunsmith. He found my scope mounts we're loose so he upgraded the mounts and torqued them down. After that I was nailing my target at 300 yards 5 for 5. So with that said I bagged my first Buck last week at a little over a hundred yards right where I was aiming. I love the weight and the feel. I'm actually writing this review from a deer blind right now. Would highly recommend this rifle to anyone. more

    1st 30.06
I bought this rifle about 2 months ago and I love it. This is my first experience with a 30.06, so I really didn't know what expect. I usually shoot an AR or 9mm handguns. I took it to the range to zero it in and it only... took 9 shots to get a group of 3 with in 1.25 inches at 100 yds. It couldn't be easier to do, even for a novice like myself. I am looking forward to some longer range shooting! Great gun, especially for the price and a rebate to boot! more

    Truly a shooter
Mine is the compact , in 7mm-08Short stalk , shorter barrel I was in need of a (ground blind ) rifle , I own plenty of rifles , in plenty of calibers. I always found myself complaining about the length of a full size rif...le when blind hunting .This little rifle is perfect , can maneuver easily inside of a ground blind .I was tho a little concerned at first glance when the salesman opened the box , the cheap plastic stalk and seemingly cheap mag.Let me say i have now owned the rifle over a year now and i wont change a thing on the rifle . For a setup in this price range you cant ask for much more . I did remount and re sight the scope , ( factory job wasent satisfactory & scope was loose). The rifle shoots moa with factory federal powershock ammo (blue box).I have several loads worked out that i really like in the rifle . It loves seirra game king 140 gr.bullets , and it really loves most of all the 140 grain nosler accubond .With pet loads is a sub moa rifle , even with the cheap plastic stalk and inexpensive little nikon 3-9 scope . The bdc reticle is very accurate it will bullseye at 500 yards .I own more costly remingtons that needed upgrades in order to achive this sort of accuracy .If you are thinking about purchasing one of these little inexpensive setups ,I dont believe youll go wrong .Thumbs up. more

    Update to previous review
This is an update to my previous review of this rifle scope package. In my first review I generally praised this rifle/scope package with the exception of the detachable magazine due to issues I had with cartridge feedin...g. I just bought another one of these package guns - we now have four of these in our household - and it is apparent that Savage has addressed the magazine issue, as this one has a much better magazine to stock fit. And it feeds every single round perfectly. more

    Feeding issue with clip
Read several reviews on this firearm, all sounded great. Once I purchased and got it home, the clip drops down and doesn't feed correctly. you have to hold the clip up part way to get it to feed correctly. Turns out this... is a common issue with this firearm. more

    Hard to beat
I have the 6.5 Creedmoor. Loaded with the right handloads it will do sub MOA at 100 yards. The Scope is Bright and more than adequate for hunting out to 300-400 yards. I changed out the rings to steel Weaver from the supp...lied aluminum rings with Picatinny bases . The rails are Weaver and Picatinny bases will not fit properly on Weaver rails. more

Great Rifle at a great Price!
I found this rifle to be exceptional for the price. I paired the Nikon ProStaff scope and I am really happy. The one thing I would like to point out on this rifle is the AccuTrigger system...wow! The trigger is nothing I... can describe. I recommend going in and checking it out for yourself as it is self explanatory. If you are looking for a quality rifle for the price, look no further. more

    Best Bang For The Buck!
I have got to say this 111 Trophy hunter XP .270 is what I have been needing in my collection. I love the fact that you can easily adjust the trigger. This gun groups really well, at 100 yrds I am placing a quarter size ...grouping. I also can say,The Price is right and will be the Best bang for the buck. You can not go wrong with this rifle! Shoot perfect and on target right out of the box! Not to mention it has a Nikon scope that is crystal clear Don't look any further this is the gun you will not regret! more

    Quality, accuracy, good value rifle
The only issue I've had with these models (10/110/11/111/16/116) is the rear baffle assembly. It seems they get quite loose with time, maybe because of a weak spring behind the two ball bearings. These rifles probably sh...ould be stored with the bolt out, or at lease retracted in order to relieve the tension/compression on springs. I've gotten conflicting instructions from dealers and Savage on the recommended storage method. Otherwise, this rifle has taken down dozens of deer and I see it as a very good value gun. more

    Unbiased review from a hunter
After buying two of these for my boys and then getting one myself, I feel the need to give a review for this product. I never had a Savage until now, as I now can't afford the kind of guns I used to own. This rifle/scope... package is, overall, very good for the money spent. The accuracy and trigger are very impressive and is what made me buy the guns in the first place. It has a good non glare matte finish for hunting. The scope has very good clarity at the lower powers, but things get worse at the higher powers. It has a flimsy injection molded stock but it at least has a good recoil pad. The rings that came with the gun aren't too great and I replaced these with Burris z rings in low. I really like the 3 position tang safety that allows the bolt to cycle with the safety on, as well as locking the bolt when you choose to do so. The bolt operates quite smoothly, and the bolt release works well after you get used to it. Now to the only feature of the gun that I truly hate and that is the detachable magazine. It is, in a word, pathetic. It is flimsy and very unreliable at feeding cartridges. I have tried to tweak and adjust the feed lips and other things to get these to work but no matter what you do it still doesn't work reliably - the bolt will ride over the cartridge to be fed and not grab the base of the round. I think the mag sits too low in the stock and there is no way to raise it. The gun ejects cartridges flawlessly, the only problem is feeding rounds from the magazine. For hunting non dangerous game, while utilizing a good rest aim to make a good first shot, this gun works very well. But I wouldn't want to have to rely on quick follow up shots to either down my game or save my hide! more

    Good- just needed some work
This is my first Savage rifle. I purchased it chambered in .223 as a "practice gun" for shooting from various field positions out to 200 yards. The scope is acceptable for a budget rifle package, but was not bo...re sighted out of the box. Easy enough to fix, but not as advertised. Accuracy was unremarkable until I had put about 200 rounds through it, with frequent cleaning. The trigger is pretty good but not exceptional. By now (300 + rounds later) the rifle works as expected, more or less 1 MOA groups at 100 and 200 yards with several brands of bulk supply range ammunition. Best 3 shot groups from bench rest are about 0.75" at 100 yards. Weight, handling, bolt action, and sight image through the 3x9 scope are similar enough to my hunting caliber bolt guns (.270, .308, and 30.06) that it provides useful practice. Use of less expensive ammunition will cover the purchase cost in a reasonable time. more

    Best Rifle I have owned
I have this particular model with the Stainless Steel barrel. I love this rifle due to the superb accuracy and the trigger pull. I used to be a die hard Remington model 700 fan until I purchased this model. I went to the... local shooting range and my .308 was shooting at 100 yards a bullet grouping the size of a quarter vs. the model 700 half dollar size grouping. I also have taken down two whitetails with this rifle. the bolt is the smoothest I have worked. the only two disadvantages I don't like is one the safety has to be half cocked to remove the bolt. the second is the bolt will not release unless it is in fire. more

Best rifle purchase I've made in a long time
Bought the 11/111 Savage - Nikon BDC scope package in 223. Seasoned the barrel like you're suppose to. Very impressed with everything about the rifle. Best scope that has ever come out on a package. The trigger is A+. Wi...th factory ammo I was MOA at 100 yards - started putting my 55 grain hand loads through it and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Stretched it out to 200 yards and was doing clover leafs. Bottom line - don't spend the big bucks for a varmint rifle. This rifle will out perform your expectations. more

So my dad got one of these in the left-handed .204 Ruger variety (at a mom-and-pop gun shop) and we couldn't get it to hold a group at 50 yards to save our lives. 111 30-06 accurate is a understatement. This thing will punch through existing holes. Its aluminum pillars keep this thing hitting in the same spot. Out of all my savages love this one. Weight is good for hunting. It's a... light package which makes it a fun rifle to shoulder up. more

    junk
I owned a Savage 110 xp for almost a year and finally got rid of it. On a good day it would group at 3 to 5″ at 100yds. Shooting it at one God’s creatures at 200yds would have been criminal. I tried different rounds,... different shooters, and three different scopes. Honestly I have lever guns that are far, far more accurate. I made up every excuse to myself as to why it would not shoot. I blamed myself, the scope, the ammo. Finally I faced it – I had a bummer rifle. I should have known it from the look of the rifling. The rifling looked like it had been tapped and threaded like the inside of a hex nut. There was that much machining left on it. After all the hype about Savage accuracy this was very disappointing. It has come to my attention that Savage was recently bought out and laid off over a quarter of their work force. This was a post-buy out Savage. That may have something to do with why it was real junk.. more

A Great Performing Rifle for the Money
My Savage 111 in .270 has been a superb hunting machine. As mentioned in all the previous comments, the rifle is extremely accurate and well built, and the Nikon scope performs as well as many much more expensive scopes.... Also as mentioned, the mounts have a tendency to loosen up, and they need to be checked before and after a day at the range or in the field. I noticed that my mounts were actually sliding. The catalyst for inspecting the mounts was when I suddenly went from shooting nice groups at 100 yards to not even hitting paper. The other issue I've encountered on my .270 is that you really need to make sure that the magazine is locked into the rifle. I lost my magazine on an Idaho whitetail hunt when it fell out. Luckily, I was able to dispatch a nice whitetail with one shot. I liked my 111 .270 so much that I bought another 111 in .223. I like the .223 even more. It really loves 53 grain Hornady Super Performance V-Max bullets, and it is capable of even better accuracy than my .270. The only issue with the .223 is that the magazine needs to be positioned perfectly in the rifle or the bolt will not grab a fresh round after injecting the spent one. more

accuracy is not what I expected
i purchased this rifle in 25-06 . I've tried several different brand and grains of ammo. Best I can get is 2 inch groups at a 100 yds. That's not acceptable to me for a 25-06. Also it comes with a 22 inch barrel. In my o...pinion a 24 inch barrel is minimal for a 25-06. Other than accuracy the rifle works good. The bolt works smoothly and the trigger is very good. First savage rifle i ever purchased that I had accuracy problems with. I currently own a 116 weather warrior in 300 win mag that puts 3 bullets in one hole at 100 yds . I recently went to Myrtle Beach on business. Mileage reimbursement plus BP credit card points plus 75 rebate = free 30-06. Took it to the range and did a barrel break-in. After break in of approximately 40 rounds, I sigh...ted in the rifle using cheap 150g Federal ammo. The first three shot group after sight in was less than an inch at 100 yards. Awesome rifle, nice walnut stock. BDC scope is clear well past official sunset.Took a test shot two weeks later before hunt and the rifle was still on zero from a cold barrel. more

    Ready to Hunt!!
Bought this rifle package as a second rifle for the family. Decided on .243 Win for lower recoil as kids get older. Bought 4 boxes of 100grain factory ammo at time of purchase and set in for an initial bench session. As ...per usual in store bore sighting was "on paper". Made adjustments of Nikon BDC scope and settled in to send some rounds down range. Of the 4 factory loads, 3 printed sub .75" for 3 shot groups off bullbag. No break in, no struggles. Federal Power Shok and Federal Premium with Sierra Gamekings were both .625" with Hornady American Whitetail at .75". Going to switch order of testing next time, but at least have lots of choices for NY deer opener. Chose the Model 11 over Axis products due to fit and finish. AccuTrigger is really nice without adjustment, especially for hunting. more

    Excellent Rifle
Bought this Savage 110 Trophy Hunter rifle on a great price break with Bass credit card and also got the rebate from Savage. Excellent value for a straight shooting rifle. I was tired of shooting Black tail deer with my ...300 win mag moose rifle so opted for the 270 Winchester. Sighted in easy and one week later caught a nice buck with one shot. The wood on the stock is a little soft and absorbed some water from the constant rains and I noticed a slight swelling in a couple spots by the screws, but I got it treated with some Howard butcher block conditioner now so should be fine. Great value with the adjustable trigger and Nikon scope. I can't do nylon stocks because of the aesthetics. Action is smooth and solid. Removable clip is a nice option. more

    BACK TO BASICS
I can't believe how many comments mention bad or loose scopes/mounts etc. Maybe I am just old fashioned but Number One on any "new" rifle has always been to clean it good and then dismount scope and tighten all... bolts, screws, rings etc and USE Locktight. I just bought one of these in 243 win. I cleaned it and tightened the stock to the barrel. Then I dismounted the scope and the bases and cleaned with solvent and reassembled with locktight. First 3 shots were a little loose (new bore?) adjust scope again then a five shot string. Less than .6 inch at 100 yards. This was leaning over the spare tire on the back of my SUV with factory loads. I can hardly wait to work up some hand loads and use my bench. The squares on this target are 2"x2". more

    Awesome Package, Tight Grouping
Bought this rifle for the hunting versatility of the 30-06 and the excellent value of the package. The Nikon scope came mounted and way off target. I re-mounted the scope about 3/4" forward for comfort, bore sighted... the rifle, and dialed it in at 100 yards. Within 5 rounds I was shooting MOA groupings. The BDC reticle is an awesome feature in the Nikon scope, just be aware it is dependent on your ammo. more

Good rifle, awful out of the box scope mount
This rifle is starting to sight in nice and group well at 50, 100 and 200 yards. However, the scope mounting out of the box is horrible. Between my friends, family and I, 3 out of 3 guns were not even bore sighted, scope... mounts were lose, etc... Before shooting this, bore sight the gun/scope and lock tight the scope mounts. My guns scope was so far off that it wouldn't have hit the target or the box holding it from 50 yards away. more

    308
I bought the 308 from Cabelas yesterday. First I would like to say that the staff in Gonzales is first class. I bought this gun to get a cheap back up. What I found was that it shoots better than my remington 700. I love... the action, trigger and safety set up on this model. This is my first savage rifle. I absolutely love it. I will buy another soon. more

    Great rifle
I've had this rifle in 223 for several years. I have quite a few, but this is my go to gun. I've shot coyotes and prairie dogs beyond 600 yds on several occasions. Easy to carry, great trigger, and very accurate. We'll o...ver 15,000 rounds through it and still shoots under an inch @100 yds. Thanks for a great product. more

    Great Rifle, Cheap Scope
In my case, the rifle is excellent! However, there are some things i'd wish savage would fix like the cheap/low quality magazine. i don't know if its just mine but i'm always having trouble properly inserting the magazin...e due to the cheap plastic tab. Real pain sometimes. Another thing is the Nikon scope really isn't typical Nikon product. Cheap scope, sent mine back due to accuracy/magnification problems but it does include a lifetime warranty for the scope. Make sure to tighten down scope mounts. Great rifle just needs some good glass more

    light weight and accurate
I did a lot of research and comparisons, also went to a lot of gun shows debating on new or used.I decided for the price that new would be the way to go.Glad I did, this is a sweet ,light and very accurate gun.Right.out th...e box it took a few rounds to dial it in and was shooting 3shot groups you could cover with a quarter. The accu-trigger is great and minimal recoil thanks to the thick rubber recoil pad.The big bonus was the Nikkon scope with the BDC reticle. It is excellent scope, great clarity and the zoom is nice.I can't wait to try some long range shooting with it.One last thing, the mag release is a little flimsy like some of the reviews said. All in all a great gun and fun to shoot,I can't wait to try it on some coyotes. more

Worth every penny & Then Some
I have several savage rifles but none with a DBM so when I ran across it, I had to give it a try. I ordered the .308 and couldn't be more satisfied with the rifle. I took it out of the box and checked it for fit and func...tion and all was perfect. Feeds and ejects perfectly. Scope and rings were tight. The factory boresight had it very close, so close that only 4 shots and I had it where I wanted it to be. It isnt real picky about ammo, but I settled on my standby 165 gr hornady sst. 4 shots @ 100 yards will clover leaf with the supplied scope. If you are a long distance hunter/shooter, you will want to upgrade the scope, but if your hunting will be sub 200 yards, the supplied scope is fine. The trigger is one of the best factory triggers with almost zero creep and a nice, crisp break. You get a lot of rifle for the price, I have a Win M70 featherweight that is much prettier and more expensive, but it doesn't shoot any better than this savage. If you are looking for a good hunting rifle that will perform great and won't make you want to cry when you scratch the finish on an expensive rifle, this is a solid choice. more

    Good Rifle
Bought this as a truck gun and for my GF to shoot in .270, but have ended up killing 3 deer with it myself in GA. Shot well out of the box, but the forward sling mount stripped out of it the second trip out. no abuse, ju...st didn't hold in the wood. I fixed it with a backing nut and stainless sling mounts. Works good now, but the scope seems to get bumped off pretty easily as well even in a $150 hard case. I will be upgrading the scope even though we haven't missed one yet because we check it regularly. more

    Looking for Advise
Bought the Savage 11/111 Trophy Hunter and have had it to the range a couple of times. My issue with this gun before I contact Savage is to determine if any one else has experienced a high level of missfires with this ri...fle.I have put different rounds through this gun but I experience 3 to 4 missfires each 20 box and I have used Hornaby, Winchester etc. Advise welcomed.Love the gun and when it shoots it's always on target. more

    Savage 11 Rifle
Purchased this rifle last summer in 30/06. This is my second Savage rifle and I'm very pleased with both of them. Bought it on sale and it was a great buy. For the price, the scope is decent and the rifle is good quality.... I was sighted in and shooting 1" groups at 100 yards in no time at all. My gun shoots the Winchester Power Max and Hornady American Whitetail ammo in150 grain the best. Very pleased with this gun. more

    tack driver
I've had my .223 version of this rifle for 9 months and I can truly say that it is a track driver. I usually shoot it from the prone position with a Harris Bi-Pod. I've used it to eliminate many groundhogs and coyote(s) ...from a friends farm. The Nikon glass with the BDC reticle is nice and clear from edge to edge. It gives me an extra few minutes of light at dawn/dusk. more

    savage model 11
I just bought my savage model 11 package deal at cabelas ,its in 223 and I have never owned a savage before.Ilike the rifle so far except for the scope bases and rings, the gun shot very inconsistent groups and then I re...alized that iam not kidding the rings and base screws were only finger tight.Iam positive this gun will be a tack driver with new rings that will stay tight. The rifle is smooth and the fit and finish are pretty darn good for the money.Go get you one and shoot it you will not regret it.AND DONT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR SCOPE RINGS AND MOUNTS. more

    best rifle for the money
I bought this rifle because I like wood stocks and the price was right. I had read some reviews where the rings and bases were not tight so I took the gun to BPS in house range and had the rings and bases tightened and r...e-bore sighted, they do this for free. First three shots @25yrds all in the bulls eye no adjustments to the Nikon scope. Later at 100 yards 1 1/2" high 2 shots touching each other the other 1" to the right no adjustments to the scope. This is 130grn (270) Winchester Silver Tip factory ammo. Doesn't come with a 1" guarantee @100yrds like some rifles but it will do it. Savage makes an accurate rifle. more
