I have owned the Sig 516 Patrol Gen2 for a few months now. It has been nothing but a wonderful rifle. I own a few AR's and the Sig is my second choice (next to my HK) for a dependable , great working AR15.

A tremendous rifle! shoots like a laser, very ergonomic. Over a thousand rounds through it so far with no misfires, f to f, or ejection issues. The mil spec trigger is a bit rough and heavy but that is an easy fix. So fa...r, my favorite AR. more

Caveat emptor - buyer beware! This Sig 516 is not what Sig is advertising now and has been advertising for the past 2 years. It does not have a nitrided barrel. It has a chrome-lined barrel with a phosphated outer finish.... And the gas block has a bayonet lug (!), something that was discontinued years ago because of federal law. I bought two Sig 516 Carbon TS rifles over 3 years ago. At the time, that was the only model that came with a nitrided barrel. In 2015, Sig began advertising that the 516 Patrol model also came with a nitrided barrel. My new rifle was made on 03/09/2017, so you would think it had the newer barrel, right? Wrong! The gun was "manufactured" this year, but I have no real idea when the barrel and gas block were actually made. I would guess that it was more than 5 years ago. It is obvious that Sig is now making "new" guns using "old obsolete" parts. "Old" is fine when parts have just been sitting on the shelf. "Obsolete" is not fine, nor is it acceptable. This is not the Sig I used to know. Now I have to take this rifle to the gun show this weekend and sell it so I can find another Sig 516 with a nitrided barrel. Why nitride? Because it is totally maintenance free and the bore lasts much longer than chrome-lined bores. (No time to argue, just look it up.) In my opinion, the Sig 516 Gen 2 with a nitrided barrel is the best factory AR-15 you can buy, but one with a chrome-lined barrel is just another AR-15 that is way over-priced. Lying about the nitrided finish costs Sig three stars. By the way, this is not Bud's fault. Bud's does not state that is has a nitrided barrel. I was relying on Sig's advertising only. more

I bought one of these about three years ago from Bud's. It's one of the finest things I own. If I could only have one AR 15 platform rifle it would be this one, it's completely reliable and has all the rails one needs to... mount anything on. more

Outstanding AR i've owned it for four years now and have put well over 1000 rounds through it has not had single hiccup until I put a slide fire stock on it. Then started having some low primer strike when firing simulat...ed full auto. It may be an issue with the gas valve will be contacting Sig Sauer and searching online for possible fixes. This is an absolutely great rifle. I have put about 300 rounds through it so far, and it is very accurate (better than me) and an absolute joy to shoot. Both of my young grandsons have a blast shooting it as well, as the...re is virtually no recoil due to the round and the rifle's heft. It doesn't seem to like the really cheap ammo, as it jamed two rounds out of 100 when I used it. But when using quality ammo like Federal Gold Medal or Black Hills, it works perfectly. I changed out the Magpul MOE stock for a ACS-L, as I like the bigger cheek weld, but that was the only thing I changed on it. It operates very cleanly as advertised with the piston operation. I highly recommend this model and brand and you definitely get the best price and service from Buds more

Great Rifle! Paid $1,264 here at buds, but that was before El Presidente made his remarks. Very accurate! .5 MOA with 77gr Nosler Custom Copetition reloads 2.260 OAL, using a 4x ACOG on a rest @ 100yds, maybe even better... with a higher power scope. Shipping was fast. Mine came with the red dot. I have 2 acogs, 2 eotechs, and an aimpoint compm4 and the included red dot isn't as good as these (obviously) but it's still a pretty sharp and small dot in comparison to other stuff out there. No irons but not that big a deal, Irons that aren't range adjustable and calibrated for your barrel length and load aren't useful out far anyway. Had some ejection and feeding issues with the Russian stuff but never with the reloads which I've shot far more of. Very clean in the carrier area after shooting, lube doesn't dry out nearly as fast. At the time of writing $1562 is a lot more than I paid, but for this kind of accuracy and reliability (with good ammo, Russian stuff aside) its worth it. It's well made, slop free, comes in a good configuration, and it takes notice at the range. more

This Sig 516 is a well design Piston Riffle. So far no problem at all. Fitted with Nikon Scope, sight it in and always on the mark. The 100 Yds has a group of quarter size using Federal XM193 55 gr FMJBT. Will try longer... yardage. Cartridge makes difference in terms of Consistency. Independent Cartridges opens up to 5" groupings at 100 yds. Solidly built to last. I like the Sling design allowing carry and shooting in so many holds. See torture tests by Sig on YouTube. more

First the Bad-There isn't any! This is the best AR-15 I have ever fired. Of course my experience is limited to Bushmaster and Colt. This is the first Gas Piston I've fired but it works very well but that's not all. The o...verall design is Great, better than the Colt Daniel Defense and cheaper as well. The points of attachment of the sling, the feel of the Bolt Carrier, the lack of slack between the upper and the lower, the little extras like the butt stock design, the folding battle sights and the ease of magazine changes(no matter steel, alum. or polymer) Sig has done an excellent job of putting this rifle together and if you can find the extra coin, then by all means invest in this very nice weapon. I would love to compare this to the Ruger 556 but have to wait until I can justify another rifle. Of course the jury is still out on Gas Piston vs. Gas Impingement so those factors will have to be decided later but this is one fine piece of equipment. more

First time purchase from Bud's. Very easy process & the rifle shipped quickly after purchase. Misfeed first 2 rounds. Made a minor adjustment to the clip and the following 200 rounds cycled thru flawlessly. I shot both ....223 Remington and 5.56 steel case ammo, all flawless. Broke it down for cleaning and discovered the piston operation keeps this rifle very clean. i would recommend this AR15 to anyone for purchase. more

Mine came with the flip up iron sights, which are preferred over the Chinese red dot sight with no irons. This gun is amazing, the build quality of it compared to say, a Rock River LAR operator, is way better, in terms o...f the machining of the lower and upper receivers. The mating of the upper and lower is solid, no gaps or looseness at all. Compared to a much more expensive LWRC M6A3, this Sig 516 is a clear winner, being almost $1000 cheaper. I also own an FN SCAR 16S, and while its a different platform than the Sig, the 516 does feel and seem to be in the same territory of a $2k gun. It came with a sling, a cleaning kit (rods, brush, and even a chamber brush, which i think it's cool), and black rail covers. more

By far the SIG516 is the best AR-15 type rifle I have ever owned. Smooth piston operation really keeps the internals cool and clean. I have put over a thousand rounds through this rifle and never had any problems other t...han running out of ammo. Mine came with flip up iron sights and a magpul collapsable stock (not the one pictured), one 30 rd mag, cleaning kit, black hard case, and really cool quick detach sling. CONS: The cleaning kit that came with the rifle was wrong and would not work with this rifle. Simple mistake, but you think for $1,300 SIG would make sure all the little things were right. Buds service was great as always! :) more

Current model comes with (Folding BUIS) of great quality. Magpul Moe collapsible stock,Moe Grip, Custom rails, Quick connect sling, GI cleaning kit and allen wrenches, manual and locking system.... Fit and finish is exce...llent, love the 6 attachment points for quick connect sling....2 on the lower receiver itself and four on the rails. Previous reviews have covered how accurate and beautifully machined this rifle is and it very much so- no question about it. This review will deal only with what you get for the version that costs $1301 as compared to th...e version that costs $1024 (basic Patrol). Sig, like many firearms manufacturers probably doesn't list it on their web site either. You may need to call them directly to get exact contents of pkg. We ship exactly how the manufacturer ships." Basically if you look at the PDF website at SIG, that is what you get except that it now comes with Troy micro front and rear BUIS and not the red dot. American rifleman did a review way back in 1/2010 (http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/sig516-review-3/) and indeed if you look at Bud's website (they do have a disclaimer) the rifle shown seems to be what this article describes. The difference:There is no Magpul MIAD pistol grip ($35) but just an MOE-K grip in black. There is no Lewis Machine & Tool SOPMOD enhanced six-position buttstock ($260) but instead you get a basic MOE Magpul that does rattle a bit but is good enough to fire the rifle accurately. There is no Yankee Hill Machine co. phantom flash supressor (http://yhm.net/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=7&zenid=d33b3753cff9dbf14cee95452495d619). These upgrades would have made the $1300 price tag seem a bargain but instead now it makes more sense since what you really get for that price is the SIG Sauer-branded Troy Industries MRF BattleRail (retail $179.99). The main difference is the forearm guard and that's pretty much of what you pay an extra for although as a caveat this reviewer has previous limited experience between the two versions and can only compare this rifle to the basic patrol seen at the local Academy sports and outdoors. It's probably worth it as the Troy MRF battlerail that this comes with may not be a drop in and in at least one blog, the author stated that SIG said it had to be fitted and machined when the rifle was sent back to SIG for this upgrade, for a premium. The SIG 516 does not come with a D ring but one has to wonder if aftermarket 7" rails would work if one decides to buy the basic patrol version. Notwithstanding the fact that it did not come with the items as pictured, one positive result was there was little excuse not to mod and 'upgrade' this rifle with Magpul ACS-L buttstock, MIAD grip, AFG2, XTM Modular Full Profile Picatinny Rail Cover all in FDE/black. After all, we reserve the right to keep, bear and in some cases, embellish our arms. Overall a good bargain. more

Great gun! Sig is definitely one of my favorite weapons manufactures out there. I've probably put a thousand rounds through my 516 now and not a single problem. The barrel is a little heavy, but after wearing 100lbs ever...yday for months at a time in Iraq and Afghanistan, I have no problem with it. Someone who wasn't in the military or law enforcement may not like this rifle due to it's weight. My suggestion is build the muscle to properly manipulate this weapon and you will not be disappointed. This rifle platform is great for customization. I have now put over $1200 worth of accessories on it and I absolutely love my rifle. Buy this rifle and buy it from BUDS! more

The weapon came with Sig's red dot sight and the gas block out of alignment with the rail by about 1mm. I had hoped for the flip up sights and no red dot since I will add a Lucid HD7 later on and would enjoy plinking wit...h Sig's iron sites. At any-rate, when I called Sig, Sig quoted me $169.00 for the flip up sights that their "new" guns come with nowadays like they were doing me a favor. Additionally, the weapon I received which was built on 5/21/2011 appears to have the old, heavier carrier. I'm sending the weapon back to have the barrel and gas block aligned with the upper receiver. I wish my experience had been better as thus far both the product as well as the customer support have missed my expectations. more

I received my Sig 516 on 9/21/11 and the rifle came with flip up iron sights. No cheap red dot ... thank God. Took the 516 to the range yesterday and received many compliments on the fine quality, looks and workmanship o...f the rifle. It worked flawlessly. The only negative is that the Patrol came with a single stage trigger. I thought the 516 came with a two stage trigger...not so. I'm going to call Sig about the trigger switch. So therefore 4 out of 5 stars. more

Picked up my 516 from the FFL on Sunday. Have not taken it to the range yet. Just to let everyone who is complaining about the red dot scope know, mine came with flip up iron sights instead of the Sig red dot. All in all I like my Sig 516 but here are my gripes anyway. I would have liked it better if it had the following: a sturdier plastic case, flip up sights instead of the red dot sight it comes with, the mount also scratch...ed up the rail a bit, it needs a point on the stock to attach the supplied sling and most of all an ambi selector switch. The 516 set up for right & left handed shooters, it has ambi mag release, and ambi points to attach the supplied sling (again not on the stock) but no ambi selector switch? I don't understand that at all. Not a gripe but FYI, the Magpul furniture it's supplied with is different than what's pictured but I was expecting that. Now that's out of the way, it shoots great. We (me and three others) took it out last weekend and had a ball with it. Two of the shooters had never shot an AR (one had never shot a long gun) and both shot it well and fun doing it. To be fair the red dot ah a lot to do with their enjoyment. The one that never shot a long gun before was ready to buy her own by the time we were finished. This is my first AR and besides the gripes listed above it's a good rifle. I shot an off hand 1.5 inch 5 round group at 50 yrds with the first mag (Federal 55 gr.) once I got the red dot adjusted. Bud's gets a 5 of 5 as usual (my 3rd purchase) the rifle gets 4 of 5. Thank you for your time, I hope this helps. more

First I'll start off my saying that I was a skeptic about buying a gun online. To my suprise, things worked out GREAT. Took the full four days for my payment to go through, which was the only "bad" thing. I called in and... they said things were looking good and so I just waited it out. Took the rifle four days to arive at my FFL. I used one of buds, and he was a really cool fella and we ended up chatting for a couple hours. When I inspected the gun, I didnt just "look at it". Being a skeptic, I tore the rifle apart. Anything that could come off and be inspected was... Conclusion: The gun was perfect. It came with a sling, one clip (takes most all AR clips so its fine by me), the red dot, instructions and the box the red dot came in. For what I payed, im VERY happy. Took'er to the range today (got it 5 days ago) and she worked great. I tried three of the four piston positions (1,3,4) and it worked very well. As for the red dot, it only took 10 rounds to get it zerod at 50 meters than I jumped to 100 meters. The red dot worked great. I WILL HOWEVER take it off the 516 and put it on my SIG mosquito (as my seattle range only has a 25 meter pistol range). Im going to stick a solid scope on the gun and reach out to 300 meters with my 80grain hand loads and see what she can do. All in all: Gun condition on delivery: 5 Will I shop here again? F*** yeah. The site is legit. more

I bought this gun due to all the great reviews and personal testimony. This is my first AR and I hit a home run on my first buy. Bud's was quick in getting the gun out and the price was the best on the net. My gun came w...ith the Sig Red Dot and the quick detachable sling. It also came with a cleaning kit and plastic case... bonus! The gun is shooting about a 1.5 inch group at 100 yards with my Magpul MBUS (added back up sights), from a bench rest. The MBUS sights co-witness with the Red Dot, perfectly. The red dot is only good out to 50 yards (for me). I absolutely love this gun! Highly recommended! Yeah it's a little higher than the lower price AR's but I think is justified ... especially with the Red Dot mine came with. I'm about 250 rounds in to it and I believe this will be my "go to" gun when the zombies attack!!! Sig and Bud's rule...!!!!! more

I have owned a lot of fine firearms in my time but this one is right out the top. Out of the box was a nice sling, Sig Red Dot, 1 30 round mag and even a gun cleaning accessory. The 2 stage trigger system is awesome. As ...usual Buds was on the ball in delivery, selling me a quaility firearm at the best price around. I ordered Monday morning and was shooting on Tuesday night. I never was able to review the P229 Dark Elite I ordered in January of this year. I now have a matched pair of awesome guns. Just a note: if you order a P229 and want to change the barrel, make sure to order the caliber you really want. The 357sig needs an sig 8 front sight and the 40 cal needs a sig 6 front sight. You will shoot low if you don't get it right but only a bit low. I swap barrels around but love the 357 sig and will stay that way. Great products sold by a fantastic dealer. more
