    S&W Quality
Another quality revolver from S&W. 7 round capacity makes it even better. What a line up; 500, 460, 629, 686+, and a 19. Each one a joy to shoot. I had a grip problem with my 629 and was sent a replacement immediatel...y by S&W. Excellent quality and customer service. You can't go wrong with a Smith. more

    S&W 686+ 4 INCH BARREL
This is a beautiful, durable, dependable, and powerful woods and fishing carry gun. It fits into a zippered pocket on a fishing vest for an easy cross-draw or can sit in a holster loaded with 7 rounds of 180 GR BEAR STOP...PERS. At 43.6 OZS loaded and with its superb trigger, heavy magnum loads are comfortable to shoot in this accurate gun. It is also unsurpassed home protection loaded with 125 GR 357 magnum hollow points.I had the trigger and mainspring changed to lighten the pull on my gun to 3# single action and 8# double action. This is one sweet "7 shooter".... more

    Good Gun
I bought the 686-6 + a couple of months ago. I took it out to the range to sight it in after having it a week. The sight elevation screw was locked up and would not adjust the sight - brand new out of box. Windage worked... fine. VERY DISAPPOINTED. more

    Quality revolver
Overall I love this revolver. It has an adjustable rear sight (both elevation and windage) with just a flat head screwdriver. The rubber grips are pretty comfortable and have a lot of grip. The orange painted front sight... is plenty visible. Nice trigger, I usually fire it in single action though since it's a decently heavy trigger pull. The recoil is easily manageable with magnum rounds and almost non existent with 38 special. more

    Beast of a revolver
Just picked up my new 686 revolver from Cabelas. I have fired approximately 100 rounds of 38 special +P and some 357 jacketed hollow points. Recoil of the 38 specials was negligible and accuracy was excellent even with a... 3 inch barrel. The 357 loads were very potent but this pistols excellent grip and hefty weight made these loads easily manageable. All in all this is an extremely well made handgun. Highly recommended. more

    Solid weapon
You can't beat a dependable wheel gun. It is built very solidly. It fit's my hand well, It's as accurate as the person behind it. I can hit a 8" target consistently at 30 yards. You don't need to worry about a miss ...feed. Seven shots of 357 is more than enough. Double action is smooth and predictable single action is extremely crisp! I would rate this 5 stars if it had a fiber optic front sight, which I have coming. In jacket / long sleeve shirt weather this will be my carry gun in warmer weather due to size I will go with a different option. more

    Buyers Remorse Smith & Wesson
10December2015Based on personal experiance, Smith&Wesson handguns are manufactured in a very slipshod way. Don't buy one. Kind of SAD!Paul

    Good Revolver
Bought the 3 inch, seven shot S&W 686 at Cabela's a week ago. In the store the action seemed smooth and I liked the way it fit in my hand. I took it to the range this past weekend and put a couple dozen rounds throug...h the barrel. The tigger pull when shooting double action was a little heavier and not quite as smooth as my Ruger GP100 (also purchased at Cabela's a while back). That's the only reason for 4 stars instead of five. All in all, it's a good quality revolver and I would recommend it. more

    Great Revolver
This is an amazing revolver. I find it has a lot less recoil than other .357's and the 7 round capacity is an added bonus. Whether firing single or double action, this gun it accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. I would r...ecommend it to anyone looking for a new revolver. more

    Great Weapon
Got the weapon a couple of months ago. Amazing engineering and workmanship. Have put 100 rounds of 357 ammo through it. Does take some work to clean the stainless steel after firing, but well work the effort.

    Love it!
I bought this the other day at the Hampton VA bass pro. I own several semi autos but wanted a quality revolver with a bang for the woods. I shot 150 rounds through it today, 50 357 Mag Hornady critical defense, 100 Winch...ester 38 special. When shooting the 357 rounds the gun was dead on, out of the box! A true joy to shoot! But don't let the hype defer you, it DOESN'T kick like a mad dog. For some reason, my 686 did NOT like the 38 special rounds from Winchester. I had to aim low left to tag the bulls eye when using them. If you've got any shooting experience, you understand that's the nature, every gun has a personality and likes different ammo. It'll be a joy to figure out which ammo this one likes. I highly recommend this gun! Just keep in mind, if your purpose is to target shoot, I'd go with a semi auto, this was bought for the woods and will serve its purpose well without a doubt! more

    YEAH BUDDY!
I was going back and forth on this and the 629 .44 Mag. I LOVE this gun! 38 specials shoots VERY accurate and HARDLY ANY recoil.. Shooting .357 bullets! AWESOME! Good Bang! Kicks a little, but honestly you will get use t...o it in a few shots. Put 200 rounds through it yesterday..100 .357 and 100 .38 specials...Never any hold up! Gun cleaned to almost brand new condition! Smith & Wesson more pricey...But in my opinion worth it if your planning on having it for a long time. single action is very light trigger...double action if you pull the trigger slow it is a little heavy, but if you pull it hard and pull it true...No problem. AMAZING! You Won't Regret This! (If you buy from Bass Pro, you get a free session at their range if one is located in your area!) more

    My favorite handgun
I bought the 4" 686+ over a year ago, and it quickly became my favorite. Recoil is barely noticeable with either .357 mag or .38 special rounds. Accuracy is only limited to shooter ability. It's a solid, solid gun a...nd I haven't regretted the purchase for a second. more

    Like not even fair
This is my favorite firearm I have ever purchased. I own shotguns, rifles, and many handguns. Which I all shoot at the shooting range I own for only the true marksman's. Just kidding. I wish I owned a range. Anyways I ac...tually do own this gun and it is powerful and accurate. I can shoot it well over 30 yards and still be on the money. more

Can’t Go Wrong With The 686
I have owned my 4” Smith & Wesson 686 for 8 years now and just love it. After firing several thousand rounds it is still just as tight and accurate as the day I purchased it. With the option to shoot either 38 or 3...57 magnum like the title says you just can’t go wrong with the 686. more

    Match winner
I wish I still had this one. A trigger job smoothed the action and i changed the grips several times. In the end I found it shot best with factory grips. This is a handgun you can, and should, cherish and keep forever.

    Outstanding Revolver
I purchased the Model 686plus 6". Outstanding accuracy right out of the box. Grips are extremely comfortable and could shoot 357 mag all day. Very solid gun with no malfunctions. Extremely happy with my purchase!

    Excellent gun
I love this gun, take it to the range all the time. I have put several hundred rounds through the gun without a problem. Very little recoil even with .357 rounds. I usually use 38 special rounds since they are cheaper. A...djusting the sights are very easy. Will purchase more S&W guns. more

    Long awaited perfect purchase
This is just the revolver for protection at home or for any animal I might encounter when out fishing, camping, hiking. It is high quality & fits my hand great. I have Arthritis in my wrist, but this gun is easy to s...hoot with no kick & is accurate. It hold 7 shells & I can use .38 special for practice or 357 for greater protection, both with a variety of grains. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. more

    A solid buy
New to shooting, I was looking for a revolver that I could feel comfortable with but which still packed a punch. The S&W 686 filled the ticket for me. The rubber hand grip has a little bit of play - hence the 4 inste...ad of a 5, but it has a smooth trigger pull and all the accuracy the "operator" can bring to bear. more

    Good revolver
Shot it a couple of times, with the hammer pulled back the hair trigger is really sensitive, which can be surprising the first couple shots, but that is the only negative so far.
