Kenneth, yes. Illinois does not restrict the sale or possession of firearms that have been defined as assault weapons, or of magazines that can hold more than a certain number of rounds of ammunition, but some local jurisdictions do restrict them. (To legally possess firearms or ammunition, Illinois residents must have a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, which is issued by the Illinois State Police to any qualified applicant). budsgunshop.com/catalog/feeds/state_reg/illinois_restrictions.pdf

QUESTION REGARDING AMMO 223 VS 556 IN AN AR15.

Submit
unnamed user 8 months ago

Basim, this rifle is stamped 5.56NATO so it will safely fire both 5.56 and .223. If a firearm barrel is only stamped .223 then it is generally considered to not be advisable, due to safety/warranty reasons, to fire 5.56 ammunition. 5.56 ammo is loaded to higher pressure than .223 ammo.

Sebastian, Keep an eye on it. I've seen this from $499 to $650. It will go on special when they get a new shipment in. Check it daily. S&W Sport ll is a great firearm. BUDs has a very comparable M4 style AR from Core 15 on sale now for $449. 4150 chrome lined barrel. No rear sight, but nice flatop for optics. Check it out.

DPMS Panther or S&W Sport II

Submit
unnamed user 8 months ago

I have the smith and it has been flawless so my choice would be easy. another reason I chose the S&W is that DMPS is solely tied up in the AR/tactical world and I think that if times get hard they are more likely to go out of business than S&W (not that it matters much with a AR)

I have an AR with a fixed front site. I have a red dot to co witness with it. Of the rifles I own I like this set up because if the battery dies I have a flip up rear sight on the rail as a backup. So it's worry free.

Asked by unnamed user 2 years ago

Ammo Type

Submit
unnamed user 8 months ago

Forrest, I have shot both without any real issue. The only thing I can say is that brass is more forgiving on the reliability on a Mil-Spec AR. There is less case expansion (read sealing) during firing and you will definitely dirty up your rig twice as fast. After a few hundred rounds of steel case you will likely need to clean out your chamber throat to reliably start firing brass cased ammo. You can shoot both but I don't recommend mixing during a firing session.

Trigger pull

Submit

Just a good polishing will do wonders and spare you the extra cost. The roughness is what's making the trigger have a disconnected feel when pulling.

Asked by unnamed user 2 years ago

two stage trigger

Submit
unnamed user 8 months ago

Unfortunately no Irv. This has a "Single Stage" trigger. The new M&P15 Sport II rifle joins Smith & Wesson's popular line of M&P15 semi-automatic tactical rifles. With it's ready-to-go design, the M&P15 Sport II benefits from accurate rifling, adjustable sights and a single stage trigger.

barrel

Submit
unnamed user 8 months ago

If you make a habit of blasting 4 or 5 magazines at the end of your shooting sessions you need a "machine gun steel" barrel which means chrome lined. The guys who do sustained rapid fire that I know, don't make a complete 3 gun season on a barrel with 4140, 4150 or 416 stainless. My chrome lined 1:9 barrel is still good after years of hard use. Remember that chrome is for erosion and heat resistance. It still needs cleaning but will clean up quickly with a bore snake.

The barrel seems to be fine for me. Have well over 1000 rounds through it with no issues. Just make sure you break it in properly. Even putting 150 rounds through it in 5 mags in quick succession it didn't lose accuracy. Hope it helps!
