    Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 - Awesome!
I am a loyal Smith and Wesson owner and couldn't pass up the great deal Smith and Wesson had on the Bodyguard 380. This gun makes a nice addition to my gun collection, is fun to shoot, and a quality Smith and Wesson prod...uct. I've put approximately 200 rounds through this gun and have had no issues, misfires, light fires, or jams. I purchased the model with the thumb safety, which also doubles as a slide lock. It has a heavier trigger but I think that's for safety reasons for those models without a thumb safety. The magazine ejects without getting caught and is easy to insert too. Comes with two six-round magazines, cable lock, and a soft case that holds the extra magazine and gun itself. This makes a nice carry gun when I don't want to carry my 9mm. With practice, accuracy will get better as all guns are accurate and a gun will only shoot as good as the shooter aims it. I picked up some spare magazines as they are inexpensive and readily available. I recommend this gun for anyone looking for a 380. more

    Really nice gun
I read a lot of negative reviews about the hard trigger pull. The trigger pull is fine. It's not a rifle with a short trigger pull. Just a gradual pull on the trigger does the trick.

Good design, could use some quality improvements
I LOVE my S&W BG380 with safety and red laser sight! This gun is terriffic value for money with a very hard wearing finish. It has a long trigger pull for safety, fits in a pocket and is snappy but not too snappy for... a male like me. It's perfect for a purse, summer carry in shorts pocket or backup use in an ankle hoslter, and with a little bit of work can be made into an excellent gun. My son hates it. Earlier made guns had teething troubles with magazine release/retention, troublesome laser sight and breaking firing pins. But, S&W has apparently rectified those now. Newly made guns should be fine, and mine is...except...the firing pin and its chamber are only accessible for cleaning after removal of the rear sight, which is installed excessively tightly (by design). After a few hundred rounds, my gun misfired due to light firing pin strikes on the cartridge primers. (Being double-action hammer fired, you can just pull the trigger again and it should go bang though). Note: some ammo manufacturers do have harder primers than others. I wasn't happy with that though, so I purchased a sight removal tool, removed the rear sight and stoned the sight vee to make the sight easier to remove and reinstall. Then I cleaned out the firing pin chamber. I also tightened up the action by installing a stronger after-market recoil spring and hammer spring. Using washers, I centered the hammer (which rubbed on the slide). No more light strikes! I smoothed the trigger pull by removing the frame and taking high spots off the frame where the trigger mechanism was rubbing. I filed the magazine release button shorter because when shooting I often bumped it accidently, causing the mag to drop out. My gun is now fully reliable! The slide take-down lever is admittedly way too quirky making cleaning a pain, until you get used to it. Gave it a 3 star because of the above issues. Once fixed, it gets a 4. more

    Great Carry
The ONLY issue I have is when I carry it in a soft holster inside my waist, the mag release is way too easy to press making the mag release when I don't want it to. I am considering using an epoxy build up around the rel...ease so it is not as easy to engage. more

    Disappointing
I really liked the safety features on this gun, I didn't even mind the extremely long trigger. After about 200 rounds the magazine would fall out of the gun when firing. I sent it back to Smith and Wesson for repair. I g...ot it back after about a month and it was exactly the same as when I sent it in. The magazine won't stay in the gun, my hand was not hitting the magazine release. I had to sell the gun at a loss and replaced it with an LCP II. I'm not going to carry a pistol that is unreliable. more

    Pretty good not great
Not a great gun but good for what it is designed for. It's designed to be an easily concealable carry gun for close self defense which is what it is good at. It only loses a star with me because it stinks as a range gun ...and to practice with but that's not what it's designed for. Personally it's my every day carry gun because it's easily concealable in numerous positions in all types of clothing, more

    S&W Bodyguard 380
I previously traded my S&W Bodyguard as I thought I wanted to carry the Shield 9mm. After carrying the Shield 9mm, I found that I preferred my S&W Bodyguard 380 because of its smaller size so I purchase another. ...It's a small and lightweight handgun with a very long trigger pull. Once you learn how to adjust for the long trigger pull it can be a very accurate and effective tool. more

    Mag falls out
I love my Bodyguard it worked well for the first year or so, with the exception of two problems. The mag falls out when shooting. I have to keep shoving it back in and re-racking. At times I pull the trigger several time...s before it goes boom. Factory or reloads work the same. It has been back to the factory twice and getting ready for a third trip.I used Q-Tip clipped to hold the spring down while I inserted the mag with the slide back to find that the mag release was barely holding the mag in place maybe a thirty second on an inch at best. The trigger pull is a bit long and hard. But after getting it under control I am able to put 3 holes in an inch at 7 to 10 meters with regularity. But the above mentioned problems now keep me from hitting that grouping. more

    Horrible to shoot
Though this is a small gun for small hands and very easy to conceal, I find it a horrible snappy gun to shoot. I have small hands and my hands hurt after a short amount of time at the range.

shot the bodyguard for the first time. I couldn't pull the trigger because of my large hands and the 1 and a half mile trigger pull. when I finally positioned my hand to make it fire the gun jammed 3 times in a half hour.... on the website for complaints for the bodyguard this appears to be " normal". probably the worst trigger of any gun ever made more

    Great Conceal Gun
Love the compact size for deep concealment, easily fits in a pocket as well. I love the fact that it has a safety, unlike many double action pistols. Stay Away
Run of the mill sold for a high price. Problems I encountered:1. Trigger pull way too heavy and long2. Hits palm with every shot. Comparison between this and the Beretta Pico:1. Way heavier and longer trigger pull than t...he Pico2. Trigger made of plastic, while Pico has metal trigger3. Grip design hits palm when shooting while Pico doesn't4. Sights are less visible than Pico's and not made of metal 5. Hammer construction half as big as Pico's6. Extractor half as big as Pico's7. Magazine construction and spring less strong than Pico's.8. Same size as Pico but a little lighter.9. Both have flowless functioning.10. Pico tested to 5000 rounds, Bodyguard has no endurance data.11. A little thicker than the Pico.12. Price higher than Pico'sMy conclusion was that this was a cheap product sold at a ridiculous price by a reputable brand. I sold my Bodyguard for a loss two days later. I will keep my Pico. more

You get what you pay for
Brand new in box. Took it to the range. Loaded magazine, inserted it, racked slide, and the mag fell out. Turns out it had a bad magazine catch. After a 4-week trip to S&W, I get it back. Back to the range to try my ...luck. With WWB, Fiocchi, Blazer, and Sig ammo I am getting >50% light strikes. Some take 3-4 pulls to ignite! I'll sell it, take the loss, and buy a Sig like I should have done originally. more

Be patient - it's worth it!
Out of the box, my M&P BG 380 was tight as can be. A good cleaning and lube helped, and things got much better after a box or two of ammo was run through it.Ease of control was improved greatly by adding a Talon grip... to it, and my groups tightened up nicely. I also painted the front sight ramp with white flourescent acrylic paint, followed by neon orange paint, and a top coat of clear nail polish for durability. Worked great, and looks fantastic! My BG didn't like Fiocchi JHP ammo - about a 10% light strike rate. Works perfectly with Blazer Brass FMJ and Winchester Kinetic HE JHP though. Fiocchi primers must be harder...Very comfortable to pocket carry in a DeSantis Nemesis holster.Being patient with this weapon until it smoothed out, and with the minor additions to it, I now shoot it well, and trust it as a backup or even a primary EDC weapon in summer attire. more

    Nice gun for conceal
I was looking for a good conceal and carry gun and this hit the spot. Very comfortable to carry. I went into shooting range right after buying gun. I shot 60 rds thru gun with no misfires or jams. Gun is accurate at 25 y...ards. Crimson laser is nice. Had to adjust the beam. Not hard to do at all. Explains it well in the manual. I bought a iwb holster desantis 106 soft tuck. The Gun does have a long trigger pull, but not a deal breaker for me. Sales associate Donnie at indep, mo Bass Pro was very knowledgeable and helpful with my purchase. Thanks again!!! more

    Pleased with Purchase
First time gun buyer, long time user. I bought this gun after spending much time reading reviews, watching YouTube videos and doing personal comparison in store. The intended use was for personal protection and for every... day carry. I wanted the pistol to be concealable, comfortable to wear with any clothing and still have enough punch to stop a threat. I'm pleased with the performance after using this to qualify for Texas CHL (now LTC), range use and getting roughly 300 rounds through it to date. more

    Bad clip lock design
Guess its just me. Haven't seen any other complaints about clip staying in gun. Clip lock is extremely touchy and clip is always loose from gun when removed from my pocket. With the weapon loaded, you can grab clip on bo...ttom, wiggle and pull and clip falls right out. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Clip will also fall out of gun on occasions when you fire weapon. Is extremely poor design or I just purchased a lemon. more

Nice conceal but snappy and long trigger
Truth be told, snappy, and the trigger pull is VERY LONG. Threrefore, it's not something you want to bring to the gun range for shooting fun. Although, This is a good conceal pistol since it's tiny and can fit in your po...cket. Spend another $100 and go with a mid-size 9mm for the range. If you're set on this pistol, try the Taurus TCP and the Ruger models as well which are similar for pocket pistols. more

    Excellent Choice
Size, weight, fit and finish, accuracy, it's all here in this little pocket pistol from S&W. I did install the Galloway Precision trigger kit and highly recommend that if you want the most out of this little gem but ...tight groups at 20 to 30' are the norm. My favorite pistol!
I just picked this little pistol up with the intentions to use as my EDC. I finally had a chance to take it to the range this afternoon to fire it for the first time and I'm really impressed. As I do with any brand new f...irearm I field stripped my BG380 acording to the manual to clean/inspect/oil and after watching some reviews on you tube it became apparent that some people had dificulty in putting the take down pin back in. I had no problems in disasembly or reassembly & the instructions in the manual were spot on. In addition to some paperwork, owners manual, included with the pistol are 2 magazines, a cable lock, trigger lock and a nice zipped nylon case to store your pistol. more

    Not for me
I need to preface this with the fact that I am not all that accomplished with a handgun. That said, I find the long and insanely hard trigger pull ( 20 lbs?) make this pretty much unusable for me. By the time you do fire..., who knows where the aiming point is? Beyond 3 feet or so, I might not even hit the target. And the safety should be renamed "death wish", if it is on and you were in a situation needing to defend yourself, you would be eating dinner at the Pearly Gates Café before you could release it. I did read that several PD's use these for backup, but have the safety removed! I plan on trying to trade this for a more user friendly model. more

    Great carry conceal gun!
This is my second Smith and Wesson purchase. The first one was for basic home protection. (full sized 40 caliber) I purchased this gun (Body Gaurd) specifically for carry and conceal. I use a pocket hoster...the gun is s...o small and light that I dont feel it on me. The gun was quite accurate at twenty feet but at twenty five feet is wasnt accurate at all. Keep in mind that the gun was made for "up close self protection," The firing of the gun was quite manageable but the trigger pull is quite long. My next purchase will be the Smith and Wesson 40 Shield compact. more

No, I am not a BOT
Yes, I am human and I did purchase this weapon for myself about a year ago. While I did experience some problems with accuracy at first I attribute those issues to the break in period for a new and unfamiliar weapon. Aft...er several times at the range I can fairly consistently put a round in a pie plate at 25 feet and definitely make most shots count. For me, the laser on this weapon is a nice toy, a good way for S&W to make money but, it is useless. There is no accuracy with it and I don’t have the time nor inclination to send it back to the shop so they can tool around with it to see if they can get it to line up. more

    Not the best purchase ever
Purchased this puppy on 12/27/13. Couldn't wait to try it out. Took it to the shooting range on 12/31/13. It has a pretty good recoil to it so make sure you have the proper grip! The lazer sight was off, and needed to be... adjusted. It quit working altogether before I fired 30 rounds. It was a booger to just get it to turn on! I'm not sure how must good this will actually do in an urgent situation...I called Smith and Wesson and they wanted the lazersight back for a replacement. I mailed it yesterday. I still have the pistol, and it will function fine with out it, but thats pretty poor construction. The lazer and switch need some improvment! I would not reccomend this to someone that is going to depend on it working. Try it out at the gun counter! I hope you find this review helpful. more

    Great for CCW
I love this little gun! It took some getting used to because the trigger is very stiff and has a long pull. However after practice I have excellent accuracy even up to 55 feet (5" spread of 6 quick fire shots). I ne...ver use the laser site because it isn't accurate past five yards. I admit I didn't like this gun the first time I took it to the range. I'm glad I persisted because after about 300-400 rounds through it, it is smoother, easier to fire, and perfect for me. more

    SW bodyguard 380 acp
Shoots great and feels great. I love mine. Here is the dope on this gun. Sent to Smith to have trigger pull adjusted. It is better takes awhile to get used to. The cover on the laser has a screw holding it down. It will ...work loose. Slowly gets worse. As the screw backs off the gun begins to jam. The slide won't completely work. Finally the screw backs off. The screw nearly sheared in half. If you get this gun watch for jamming. I sent mine to factory and it took 1 1/2 weeks to repair.I would take locktite and tighten the screw down. The laser is fine. Gun shoots great without it. more

    S&W .380 Bodyguard w/laser sight
The S&W .380 Bodyguard is a good pistol, however the build-in laser sight is a very big disappointment. I had to return the first pistol I purchased because the sight was more than four feet out of alignment and coul...d not be adjusted. Thankfully, Cabela's allowed me to return it for a replacement. I found the pistol to be accurate up to a range of 15' using the main gun sights. I adjusted the laser sights to the 15' range and they worked for the first two shots. After that the laser went out of alignment and became useless. The pistol is good but the laser is trash; and for this reason I give the combination a three-star rating. When I say I would recommend this to a friend, it is for the pistol only. more

    Perfect pocket pistol
The Bodyguard fits my needs completely. With the holster that came with it it offers excellent concealment in one of the front pockets. Its size and weight make it the perfect pocket pistol for me whether I wear cargo sh...orts or Dockers. The trigger takes some getting used to as it is a long and heavy trigger pull but with practice I'm used to it. Accuracy at 21' or less is very good and more than adequate for personal protection. I'm retired law enforcement and the 6+1 magazine and laser coupled with its size and weight makes it an ideal choice for me for concealed carry. more

Great concealed gun. Well made and extremely light. The laser is set up for either right or left handed users. Just extend your index finger to just beyond trigger.

    Disassembly Difficult
Like the gun, easy to carry, which is why I added it to my collection. It would of had 5 stars except it is very very difficult to disassemble to clean. You have to turn a little lever then pull it out. Try and pull it o...ut while you hold the lever against the spring, if you get that done you have accomplished the easy part! Aligning the little lever to put it back in is very hard. If Cabela's would take it back I would because of the hard to disassemble feature. Who thought of this? more

    Great pocket gun
I read the negative reviews about the trigger pull being too heavy… I have had mine for a little over a year and definitely do not agree! For a true DAO pistol it is just fine. Sure it is longer than a single action gu...n or one that is carried “partially cocked” but it is a small sacrifice for the additional safety. When firing slowly and being disciplined with my trigger pull I routinely shoot <2” groups at 10 yards. Under faster firing conditions the grouping expands to 4” or so, still quite acceptable. The laser works great in most conditions other than outdoors in full sunlight. I have experienced no feeding problems; it digests everything from my practice hand loads to my preferred defense loads flawlessly. The internal clearances are large enough so that any debris or dirt that may be floating around in my pocket with the BG 380 will not hamper its operation (think AK vs. AR). As others have pointed out it is not a target gun, but then again that isn’t what it was designed for is it? more

    Great Concealed Carry
I recently purchased the S&W Bodyguard .380 for Concealed Carry. I took it to the range and fired 100 rounds through it. I have portions of several fingers missing from an accident and found that I was able to handle... the BG .380 very well. It took me around 12 rounds to get the feel because of my hand, but it worked out great. Light, slim profile, accurate at 10 yds. and easy to carry with a pocket holster. I also use an in-pants balistic nylon holster. I highly recommend this handgun. Great value and extremely reliable. more

    Excellent For Conceal Carry
Rented a number of semi-autos and revolvers at local ranges looking for ideal conceal carry pistol. After comparisons of 9mm, .38 and .380s this pistol won out, About 250 rnds thru it so far, just breaking in. Trigger pu...ll is a little lighter now, but still long which is exactly what I was looking for. This is not a target pistol, don't expect any level of accuracy beyond 10 yds. It is ideal for close in personal protection. more

    Great gun
I looked at a lot of guns before purchasing this gun. This is by far my favorite. I've only shot about 200 rounds out of it, but so far it has worked flawlessly.

    Great for concealed carry
I bought this gun a few months back and have absolutely loved it. I have been able to put about 400 rounds through it so far (both federal and winchester) without any problems.

    Nice Gun but...
Nice gun. Accurate. Easy to handle. Cheap enough. Hasn't jammed. I like the built-in laser. The trigger pull is way.... too-long or I'd give it 5-stars.

    Good, not perfect concealed carry
Its small size and thumb safety make it ideal for concealed carry. The very hard trigger pull spoils it as a fun range gun—but you gotta take it to the range anyway, because it takes practice to achieve even hit-the-ba...rn accuracy with the hard trigger pull. The included laser was a buying point for us, but in practice the laser is less useful than we expected. more

Smith and Wesson 380 Bodyguard is a great gun
I own a number of pocket guns, including other380 automatics. However, I have never beenmore pleased and happy with the performanceand pocket feel of a gun, until I purchased aSmith and Wesson 380 Bodyguard. After 24 sho...ts,at 25 feet, using the laser, it was 100% in a 4 inchcircle. Using open sights for 24 shots, it was 98curate in the body kill zone. I am also very happywith the feel of this palm sized gun in my pantspocket. Great gun! more

Nice Gun, Feels good in your hands
Unlike some other .380's this gun feels great to hold especially since I have large hands. Great defensive weapon for street and home. The only downfall was a heavy trigger pull, which was corrected by my gunsmith. As a r...etired Police Officer I feel very comfortable carrying this gun and knowing that it will be very adequate in most situations. The trigger pull only bothered me because I am a diabetic and my hands are a little weak. Otherwise 5 stars! more

    Great firearm for concealment application
The 'Bodyguard" by S&W is an excellent choice when considering a weapon for concealing (with an approved permit, of course). The integrated laser sight makes target acquisition fast and easy. It fits nicely in t...he back pocket of one's pants and you can also purchase a wallet-holster with the trigger guard open for fast ready use. more

    Great 380
I purchased my Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 380 along with a spare magazine about a week ago at the Cabela’s up here in Maine. I own a handful of different brands of 380 pocket pistols (yes, it is a sickness) and have to... say for the money I feel this is one of the better buys out their. I brought it to the range after inspecting and cleaning it. While at the range I fired 350 rounds of ammunition through the Bodyguard consisting of Remington, S&B, Blazer, and Hornady Critical Defense. All ammunition functioned flawlessly. more

    Best in its class
I purchased this gun nearly 2 years ago as my 'Pillow-Gun'. It replaced a Colt that became way too valuable and now sleeps in the safe.

    Excellent for concealed carry
S&W .380 Bodyguard is comfortable to hold & control, especially with mag pinkie extension. One star deduction because of button issues --- Integrated laser is a cool feature, but activation button is inconvenientl...y located far forward. Laser cannot be initiated rapidly. For me, laser is overrated, & best used for dry fire practice. External safety is difficult to disengage. Relatively long & heavy trigger pull - I prefer pocket holster carry with chambered round & safety off (or nonexistent), ala LCP or Glock.Critics of this handgun need to spend more time on the range. Trigger pull, and reset for followup shots, take getting used to. But with practice, the pistol is VERY accurate & I have NEVER had a malfunction. With PD ammo, excellent choice for warm weather CC. more

    we'll see
I love the feel, size, and accuracy of this little .380, but I'm having ftf due to light primer strikes on every ammo I've tried. I'm sending it to s&w to get it fixed, then hopefully it will be my back-up weapon. Th...e trigger is comparable to a doa revolver; to shoot accurately, I pull the trigger almost all the way, then ease back the last 1/4". It's amazingly accurate for a pocket .380, which is why I'm giving it a second chance. more

    REALLY DISLIKE THIS GUN!!!
I bought this pistol on S&W's reputation and was really disappointed. The trigger pull is too long and too hard. So it does not matter if it has a laser on it. The dot is moving all over the place. This is the most in...naccurate pistol I have ever used. Could not hit the broad side of a barn. Also it had feeding problems after the second or third shot......EVERYTIME! Got rid of this ASAP and pleased to have a P238. more

    Trigger pull BAD
My nephew just picked this up this week. He had it at the range and ask me to try it. I love the laser, can't stand the trigger pull. We were told by the rangemaster they make them that way for safety as it is intended f...or conceal carry. Not for me. more

    Poorly designed trigger and laser
I bought this pistol when they first came out. They were a hot item at the time. I loved the truly pocket’able size and the quality of the frame design. However the trigger is so heavy and long, it makes the pistol ext...remely inaccurate (like only 2 shots on paper out of a full magazine @ 25’). Additionally the integrated laser is so weak that it’s only visible at night or in doors.I ended up selling it and getting a pocket pistol from a competitor (p238). I slap a CTC laser on it and now I can use the laser in full sun light and I’m putting up 4” groupings. more

    Excellent Concealed Carry
This gun is very accurate and easy to use. Very easy to conceal. Trigger pull is long and heavy but okay after a little practice.
