Went for a Sig Mosquito, purchased M&P 22LR
I went looking for a Sig Mosquito. After finding they aren't in stock any longer, I purchased this model instead. I was not disappointed in it's performance at the range. I had ONE FTE at the range with garbage ammo. Swi...tched to CCI Mini's and no further issues. CCI really seems to be the gold standard for 22 LR Ammo. The pistol itself was highly accurate, and what litle flaws in marksman ship were mine, and because of the solid platform the pistol presented, makes it easy for me to focus on my shooting to gain accuracy. more

Excellent handling, just like my Shield 40!
Since I purchased this over a month ago, I've been enjoying shooting it alongside my S&W Shield 40. They have similar frames (.22LR is actually slightly larger) and I really enjoy practicing on it (since .22lr a...mmo is cheaper than a .40). Overall great value and excellent product! more

    S&W M&P 22 Compact Wow
Picked up this firearm at the Chesterfield Mi. store on Friday and took it to the range on Monday and I have to say...Wow. It worked great. I took 100 rounds of CCI standard velocity 40 grain lead round nose rounds and i...t cycled them all without any hiccup. It shot very accurately and performed flawlessly. The takedown is a breeze, the trigger is excellent and the magazines are easy to load. Back in December I purchased a S&W M&P9 Shield from the same location that I love to take to the range but frequent trips to the range in 9mm can add up on the cost of ammo.If you are looking for a great, fun range firearm that is low on cost of ammo, the S&W M&P22 Compact is that firearm. The staff at the Chesterfield Mi location were great again as always. more

    Worked Flawlessly... after cleaning
First trip to the range was not great, 3/10 rounds would FTF or FTE. My first 22LR so I was expecting some issues but after reading the reviews about this pistol I was very disappointed.

    Nice little pistol
I got this as my first pistol, so take this review with a grain of salt. For the purpose, it has done just fine - I have fired about 800 rounds through it so far at the local target range, using everything from good CCI,... to dirty bulk ammo, and it has done just fine - I have had maybe 5 firing failures in those 800 rounds. more

    M&P 22 Compact
Recently added the 22 Compact to my M&P family. Excellent feel and no problems with 500 rnds thru so far. My wife also likes it for practice sessions. Wish they would have included two magazines as 10 rnds goes very ...fast. I have settled on CCI mini-mag 36g CPHP and 40g CPRN as standard ammo. You will not be disappointed with this firearm. more

This is not a 22A: M&P22lr full sized
I have the M&P22lr full sized and it is awesome. Fun to shoot and very reliable even with bulk ammo. For some reason there are 22A reviews mixed in this website which brings the M&P's score down. The M&P22 is... made by Walther, a superior company for rim fire, and anything but a revolver when compared to S&W. more

    Compact Gun Full Size Performance
I have had mine for over a year now and have put thousands of rounds through it with zero complaints. I shoot and carry Glock pistols carrying out my duties as a Game Warden so my expectations on pistol performance are r...ather high. This S&W functions every bit as well as any of my duty weapons and is a pleasure to shoot. It is extremely accurate and costs just pennies to shoot and easy to clean. I was looking for a less expensive 22 pistol that I could carry while off duty at my ranch to help rid the countryside of pesky armadillos and this is it. The dilla population has dropped significantly as a result of this purchase. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who runs a gun shop and allowed me to test 4 different brands of semi-auto 22 pistols and this one was my favorite by far. I would highly recommend this product. more

    Great 22 pistol! My favorite!
This gun is easy to rack and shoot for anyone with weak hands due to arthritis or any any issues. I have a disease that causes muscle wasting and no amount of working out can improve my strength. This gun gave me options... and Is fun to shoot! My only gripe is I don't have a dozen mags to load up before going to the range. I will definitely be buying 8 more when I can. Very dependable reliable shooter with quality ammo. So far I have had no failures of any kind using CCI of all types. more

    Great training handgun
After much debate about whether or not I should buy this gun versus other brands, I decide to buy it. I bought it as a practice gun as using my .380 , 9mm, .40 cal handguns does get expensive shooting with them. All of m...y other guns are Smith & Wessons. Well much to surprise this gun feels exactly like my other Smith & Wesson Guns. It fired great , very accurate, fun to shoot with it. Only had 3 misfires in the 300 rounds I shot with it. Over all it's a great gun and I will recommend it to anyone who wants to find a great practice gun , without paying lots of money for ammo. more

    Like shooting a Shield
This gun is about the exact same size as a M&P Shield. It is like practicing with a 9mm but with cheaper ammo. Helps to control the flinch when you are expecting recoil. I have two of these in the house and my wife a...nd son use them. Quality has been pretty good, no problems and we have shot about a 1,000 round through each. I prefer my Walther PPQ M2 22LR but it is a larger gun. more

    Great little 22
I bought this gun yesterday and today I took it to the range. I fired close to 100 rounds, one box of ammo was at least 20+ years old, without a single FTE or FTL. After I adjusted the rear sight slightly, I was able to ...shoot pretty tight groups at 30 feet. I really liked the way the gun fits my hand and the very light pull of the trigger (light years ahead of the trigger action on my S&W M&P Shield 9mm). Based on today's results, I am very happy with this gun and would certainly purchase it again. No Buyer's remorse! more

    Great little .22
I've had this gun since late July of 2015 and have enjoyed the better part of 800 rounds through it since then. First - I paid $270 plus shipping from PSA and that was the best price I found anywhere. This is really ...a fantastic gun. I've tried several semi-auto .22's that have been based on other "fighting" pistols and this one is by far the best. Great SAO trigger fits the hand very well very accurate with good sights and very reliable. By comparison this particular M&P22 Compact had no break in time whatsoever and the only feeding/ejection issues I've experienced have been with bare-lead Federal Auto Match (which has caused problems in every .22 except for the bolt-action rifle). My Dad's Sig Mosquito was nothing but problems for the first 500 rounds at least and required a good polish on the feed ramp before it would reliably function - and that pistol was substantially more expensive than this one. I initially purchased this pistol to be a cheaper training aid with my M&P Shield but it has become one of my favorite pistols in the safe and the only one that I take to the range every single time I go. It is very fun easy to operate and ammo is cheap; a perfect combination for 5 stars. I'd recommend that anyone who is in the market for a .22 version of a "fighting" pistol give this one a shot. more

    Nice little pistol
Just picked one up this weekend to go with the M&P Shield 9mm that the wife shoots. Got a great price from PSA shipped to my dealer. The kids like to shoot too but the 9mm is a little much for the 9 year old and the ...14 year old goes through 9mm ammo too fast $$$! I stripped it down and made sure it was oiled up and we took it out. It was pretty accurate right out of the box. I'd say between 3 of us we put 400+ rounds thru it and we all enjoyed shooting it. Fits all our hands fine. The 9 year old loves it. He can control it very well especially compared to the 9mm which he has shot but does not like. Had a couple misfeeds and one misfire but that might have been due to the age of the ammo. Next box is brand new so that may help. One complaint is the length of the trigger pull. A good bit of slack to take up before you get to the break. Other than that pull is nice and smooth. more

    Great .22!!!
Bought this from Cabelas a month ago and have absolutely enjoyed it. My primary reason for the M&P 22 was for cheap training for IDPA, which I use (and love) my M&P 9 pro in. The 22 is identical in shape and feel... (except for the safety). Best of all, it has proved very reliable and accurate. About 400 rounds through it so far. Zero failures/jams with CCI velocitor and Tactical; a few failure to chamber second round problems with Federal 36 grain bulk stuff (a little underpowered, I think, for slide to fully cycle to pick up round from the mag). Quality of workmanship is very good. Trigger is similar to centerfire models though completely different internally. In a perfect world, Smith would offer this without the safety AND include a second magazine. But neither issue keeps me from giving this weapon 5 stars. It's just too fun to shoot! more

    Excellent Recomendation
I just purchased the S&W 22A and had a chance to take it out to the range. I also purchased several brands of ammo to see if one was better than the other. The gun was flawless with all rounds of Federal bulk ammo, a...nd three mis-fires on Remington ammo. The 22A was very accurate at 25 feet with keeping groups inside a dime. With my shooting skills they were worse at 50 feet, but within inches. Also took my son out (12) and he loved shooting this gun and handled it well, as he shot over 500 flawless rounds. Excellent purchase as a plinking gun for the whole family, and not as expesive as shooting the .40 caliber. more

    Smith & Wesson 22
I purchased my Smith at Cabalas and it was a very good buy but I did not check the Pistol out good enough. The 22 has a dent in the feed ramp and it can not be polished out without taking out too much metal. I called Smi...th & Wesson after waiting for them to reply to my E-mail for two weeks and they told me that as long as it does not cause the pistol to malfunction it would be ok, so much for quality control. I have found that there are many more of these pistols out there with same defect. The good thing is that it does shoot well, and the dent does not seem to have an effect on the accuracy. But I am disappointed on the response I received from Smith & Wesson. more

One of the best target guns I own
I was a little apprehensive about buying a S&W 22a with all the bad reviews about FTF'S and FTE'S. I can tell you that this gun will eat anything you feed it. It will shoot Remington, Winchester, Federal bulk boxes a...ll the way to Eley target ( I have about 1500 rds through it already). I purchased this gun to teach my sons to shoot a handgun so it being heavy is not a con but a pro it weighs about the same as my Python or 1911 National Match.I installed a red dot scope and it will shoot the x ring out of a B2 target at 75ft (bench rest of course) with bulk ammo. The best thing I can tell you is try to shoot one yourself and make your own judgements, I think you will be very pleased. more

I really like the gun, it is very easy to shoot. I have shot 150 rounds so far with no jams, the gun performed flawlessly! The gun is fairly heavy which is nice because there is practically no recoil. The fit and finish ...of the gun are top notch. more

    Recommend, with caveat
I own the S&W 22A and have mixed feelings about this pistol. It has a very good feel, nice balance, trigger pull is good, very easy takedown, easy to clean. I fired a number of CCI and Remington rounds through it wit...h one FTE, on the very first round, not a big deal. I would highly recommend this pistol EXCEPT for the recoil spacer (you will see S&W packed a spare with each pistol) and recoil spring. The spacer is plastic and I don't see it lasting a long time (hence, the included spare). The recoil spring seems flimsy. Both parts are very inexpensive, and easy to replace, so buying replacements is not prohibitive, but I have another brand .22 target pistol that is 25+ years, and thousands of rounds, old and has never needed a single part. I would think S&W could have designed this portion of the pistol better, for a modest increase in price and a large increase in durability. If you collect .22 pistols, you would probably like to add this to your collection, but if you want only one .22 pistol, I would look at all brands before choosing this one. more

Worst quality I have ever seen
1st of all, kudos to Cabelas customer service - 5 stars. As for the Smith and Wesson 22A - I wish I had the kind of luck you others seem to have had. Readers digest version: Sept 19th I bought a new one on sale. Took it ...to the range, and the magazine fell out on the first shot - and every shot after that - both magazines. Had to shoot it holding the magazines in with left hand. After about 3-400 rounds of shooting Remington target round nose ammo, the bullets started tumbling and were hitting nowhere near the black at 50 feet - and going in sideways. I had been shooting 80+ on regulation 50 foot slowfire targets just before that. Cableas exchanged it for another new 22A on Sept 29th. On Oct 2 I took the new one to the range and thankfully the magazines did not fall out. But after about 150 rounds, the bullets started tumbling again. I thought I would try cleaning it, but the cleaning rod would not go thru the barrel. There was what appeared to be a lump of lead fused to the inside of the barrel about 1/2 inch in front of the chamber. Tapping on the end of the cleaning rod would not dislodge this lump. More than likely this is the same issue I had with the first one. Going back to Cabelas tomorrow to exchange this for a Ruger Mark III. I don't like paying the extra $$, but know I can shoot more than 200 rounds thru one of those. I am really, really disappointed in S&W quality on this one. I am an avid fan of S&W and was thrilled to finally see a low cost alternative to the Model 41, but extremely disappointed and friustrated on this not once, but twice in two weeks. It kills me to diss S&W products, but this is ridiculous. more

    Great gun
This is a great gun, the 22A. Very accurate, feeds great, feels great. I don't understand the price. How can a smith and wesson that shoots and feels so great, be so cheap? I put on a Ultra dot and it makes that gun a bu...lleye machine. Good work S and W. more

    A Sweet Little Pistol
Got my 22-A about a month ago on sale at Cabela's, and I finaly got to the range to try it out. Put over 300 rounds through it with only 1 FTFeed(the clip wasn't fully engaged) and only 2 FTFires, which I will blame on t...he ammo, the R brand, which I chronographed and it happens to be the worst of all the brands I shot. I like the heft of the gun, it's not light, but that absorbs what's left of the already mild recoil. Very easy to take down and clean. Very forgiving of all the ammo I put through it, except R. Nice groups at 25 yards. Thinking about getting another one, I love it! more

    Great shooting, good price
I am impressed with the S&W 22A. No problems with Remington bulk hollow point. The built in rail is great. Overall I think this is a great gun, especially considering the price.
