.45 ACP w/ night sights, no porting
Picked up one of these two weeks ago. Non stop rain has been keeping away from the shooting range. I can't wait to shoot this pistol! Trigger is fantastic fit and finish is excellent. Bonus- it came with a second 7 round... mag for a total of three mags. Mag springs are super stiff. I don't think I could have loaded it without the maglula magazine loader that I bought the same day. I keep 5 Winchester bonded rounds in it to save long term wear and tear on the magazine spring. This thing fits my hand perfectly, just like a 1911. more

    Great concealed carry pistol.
I have had the 9mm Shield for a year now. Over 1,000 rounds fired not a single issue. Performs excellent! Its comfortable and easy to conceal. I purchased 3 extra 8 round mags. I have used only mags from Smith and Wesson... all work without any problems.I definitely recommend this gun.The only upgrade I am looking into would be some type of fiber optic sights. The standard white dot are good. Low light something brighter would be nice. more

    My first semiauto
This was my first semiautomatic and is an excellent example. High quality fit and finish, easy field breakdown, good accuracy. I have put about 1000 rounds down range and it hasn't skipped a beat!

    Great Concealed Carry
I bought this gun a few months back after researching multiple concealed carry weapons and I'm definitely pleased. I ordered online and it was ready to pick up at the store in 4 business days. I have the 9mm and the exte...nded grip on the 8 round mag fits my hand perfectly, although the 7 round isn't difficult to cope with either. This gun is accurate out of the box and has had no problem with any ammo I've put into it. I carry it as my concealed carry and will continue to. Great job S&W. more

    magazine fault
The trigger is to stiff and the eight round magazine causes the slide to not close properly, The result is the trigger won't function until you push the slide closed with your hand! The six round mag works fine.

    Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm - Awesome!
This was a great gun to add to my collection. I'm a loyal Smith and Wesson owner and have shot Smith and Wesson for years. I like the striker fire action after years of shooting with a hammer. The gun fits my hand perfec...t, is easy to operate, and I'm able to shoot this gun accurately. I chose the model with the thumb safety, which is easily accessible without having to change the position of my hand. I've put over 500 rounds through this gun with no issues at all, no misfires, soft strikes, or jams. This gun is also easy to field strip for cleaning and can be taken down in about 30 seconds (and I work slower than most guys). This makes a nice carry gun due to it's slip profile. The gun comes with one 8-round magazine and one 7-round magazine, and a cable lock. I purchased another 8-round magazine as they are inexpensive and readily available. It's a Smith and Wesson . . . need I say more! more

    S&W M&P Shield 9
This is the concealable pistol that I hoped it would be: slim, reliable, easy shooting. It has a good trigger, and a comfortable grip.It comes apart easily, and cleans up quickly. The longer mag makes the frame grip work... even for large hands. more

    Just right for the Price
Great gun for the price. Grip doesn’t force your hand into a position, great for quick draw. Also the gun is perfect for follow up shots. I wouldn’t change my purchase for a concealed carry gun for any other at this ...price level. more

    Smith &Wesson M&P9 Shield
I purchased a S&W M&P9 Shield on Dec. 7th and took it to the range for the 1st time yesterday and I must say I love it.I put 50 rounds(I know that is not a lot) thru it and it performed without a hiccup and felt ...really good in hand.Yes the slide is very stiff out of the box and takes time to "break in" but other than that I find this firearm a joy to shoot and a well built firearm. I will be taking a CPL/CCW class very soon and this will be my firearm of choice. The salesman who helped me when I went in to purchase a firearm was very helpful as well (Chesterfield Michigan) more

    Not perfect but It's close
Great weapon. After I installed the grip extension on the 7 round magazine I thought it was perfect until one of the magazine springs failed. I noticed the follower was loose after firing at the range however the Shield ...never failed to load all the rounds even with a damaged spring! Even though it was out of warranty Smith and Wesson sent 2 replacement springs at no charge. I have to say I'm pretty happy with this hand gun! more

    40 & 45 are great!
Bought the 40 on a friend's recommendation and loved it. So when I went looking for a 45, the choice was easy. In several hundred combined rounds I've had only 1 FTF and it was my fault. I was rushing reloads with a maga...zine loader. I don't believe anyone would regret buying a Shield in any caliber. They're dependable, durable and accurate. I mostly carry the 40. The 45 is my bedside gun. more

    Trigger sucks
I purchased this gun about 2 years ago. I did not have the chance to try it. I had it for my business. after about a year from having it, I went to the range to practice. I found out the trigger is very bad, you have to ...squeeze hard to get the gun off. Of course, S&W said they will never cover that as the warranty is expired. Now I have to pay Gunsmith to handle this issue. They asked me around $200 to fix it.I would give them 5-stars if that issue was not there. The gun is very nice, the grip is short, but you can get a mag with an extended grip. The gun itself is very easy to hide, but the warranty is sucks. Just be careful. When you buy a gun from S&W, use it as soon as you can and make sure everything works as it should. more

    Going back to Glock
After reading how reliable the M&P Shields are, and how, according to a recent article in a reputable gun magazine, they had surpassed Glocks in quality and reliability, I purchased a .45 M&P Shield. After severa...l hundred rounds of many different types of ammo, I have found I cannot depend on this pistol for self defense purposes. 1 in 15 fails to feed, regardless of magazine or ammo used. As a retired LEO I carried Glocks for 20+ years, and only experienced 2 failures during hundreds of hours of training. Back to Glock for me, should have known better. more

    Not reliable
First trip to the range,50 rounds with no problems. Next trip to the range had (3) brands of ammunition with me in both 115gr and 124gr. Used both the 7&8 round magazine and could not empty a magazine without a jam o...r failure to feed up the ramp. Weapon is presently at Smith & Wesson for them to find out what the problem is. Hottest gun going in 2017
I outfitted my 9mm performance version of this gun (ported and fiber optic sites and reworked trigger) with Tallon grips on both of them. I use the rubber version on one of them and the sandpaper/grit on the other. Then ...i added the green Crimson tide with flashlight on one of them. We carry them in Sticky Holsters and I tried the Remora but they are harder and slip more and you have to adjust your pants more with Remora Holsters. For those who think the slide is too stiff, just keep it pulled back with a mag. in it for your home defense at night and use it more at the range. more

Sheild 45 is a Great Handgun
Very comfortable handgun. Even with the six round magazine it fits my hand much better than a Springfield or similar small frame handgun. Some people have complained about misfires right out of the box. My suggestion is ...field strip it and then lubricate it with a good gun oil. In terms of accuracy, it shoots better than you do. Most people think that a three inch barrel is good for five hundred yards - it's not! But, for a defensive firearm it will do the job quite well. I purchased the Shield in 45ACP and it handles very well. I do not know about the 9MM or 40S&W. My thought is that if you are familiar with any of the calibers you won't be taken by surprise. I won't get into "which caliber is best" because ANY will do what you want. My only suggestion is for you to think about about what you want a handgun for and how much money you want to spend on it (and the ammo it shoots). I will say that when Cabela's has a special - and S&W have a rebate - you can not beat the deal! more

Great firearm once you get through some early....
......misfires. This is one of the most comfortable small handguns I have owned. Great accuracy for it's size. I give it a reluctant recommendation because it had a few misfires right out of the box, unlike the glocks I ...have owned, which always fired, first time every time, I have never had a misfire with a glock. But I actually prefer this gun due to its easy concealment and nice handling. After putting a few hundred rounds down range and a couple of thorough cleanings, the misfires have completely disappeared. I hope so, because I now consider it my primary cc weapon. Love it. more

    Sweet gun!!!
Very accurate gun!! I shot better with this then my FS M&P9Fits the hand well with the 8 round mag. Comes with two mags. A 7&8 rounder. Felt recoil is very low for how small it is. I shot 200 rounds the first tri...p to the range, absolutely zero issues. I was on the fence on getting this gun but seeing how crazy accurate and easy to shoot it is I'm so glad I made the purchase. I have a 115 lb wife that does not shoot much and happened to be with me at the range and she shot it and really liked it. She was also very accurate with it and was able to work the slide herself. After the 200 rounds the gun felt nice, mags were going in and out with ease and the slide spring eased up a bit. Highly recommend it. more

    Very poor production consistency
After first time shooting this gun, I carefully disassembled it to clean it and while slowly and methodically removing the recoil spring assembly, the muzzle end head of it broke and the main spring forcefully unraveled.... I've never owned a Smith semiauto and if this is indicative of the production consistency quality there, never will again. I called CABELA'S and despite the fact that I purchased this gun there just yesterday (Berlin, Mass store), they were of absolutely no help whatsoever, and just told me to contact Smith & Wesson. Upon looking at the quality of parts in this gun, I am immediately reminded of why I shoot H&K's and Berettas and haven't heretofore bothered with Smith & Wesson. It's like going from a BMW to an Edsel. more

    S&W Shield A+
Just purchased a M&P Shield 40 and could not wait to get to the range. I knew the 40 cal would be snappy but I was surprised how well I handled it . I was spot on at 21 and 30 feet with a variety of FMJ and JHP ammun...ition . As I said it is snappy but very easy to control . I guess with the thin grip and low bore axis it makes it easier to hang on to. I own two Shield 9 MM's one being ported and love both of them. If you want a solid smaller framed handgun I would purchase the 40 ! Do not be afraid of the recoil you can handle it. Smith & Wesson is spot on with the Shield Line . I am happy for sure ! Makes me think maybe a 45 auto in a Shield may be next ? more

    Perfect Fit
Been looking for a smaller EDC pistol and the Shield seemed a popular option. Lots of upgrades and mods available. When I unboxed the pistol I found the action very stiff - extremely hard to rack - took two people to loc...k the slide back. Factory said short barreled pistols are all typically stiff - run a couple hundred rounds and see how it loosens up. 250 rounds later - only one person required to lock slide. One side of 3 dot sight had poor white paint application (modified with neon green/orange nail polish) so no foul there. Very accurate and hope to see spring loosen a bit more after another 100 rds or so. Great carry. more

    Good Gun
I got it on sale, used a coupon, and got a rebate. So the price was a big deal. I've only put about 50 rounds through it so far, but absolutely no problems. Slender, easily concealed, and light to carry. Feels good in th...e hand and with the extra mag you're totin' 15 rounds of this ain't no joke ammo. Great carry pistol
I finally picked this up as another carry pistol. After the sale price, rebates, and Club points, I couldn't pass it up. I got the .40 no thumb safety and couldn't be happier. I've shot about 100 rounds through it and in...itially it is VERY tight. No issues with any FTF, feed, etc. Trigger has predictable travel and slightly heavy. Accurate for a small pistol. It feels good in the hand. I bought some after market mags for it to cut down on the reload time. Overall fun fun to shoot, it disappears when you carry it and easy to maintain. Definitely recommend. Great Price...
Great CC gun and the rebate makes it an outstanding value. I just hope that Cabelas starts to pay attention to the competitive pricing online as the 9mm shield can be had for $150 less without taxes and free shipping. I ...wan't Cabelas to survive the online onslaught that has closed the doors of big stores, however at these prices I do not think they have read the recent news pertaining to big box stores! more

    Enjoyable shooting experience.
The S&W 40 Shield is a very enjoyable firearm to shoot. Feels great in your hand. Easy to strip and reassemble. Fired 100 + rounds of 3 different brands with no trouble.

    Perfect Concealment
Put me in the five star club with this gun. I was a little nervous about getting it in the 45 ACP. My fears were put to rest. The stippling on the grip is prefect. It keeps the gun in your like it's glued to you. The rec...oil is very manageable. I've only put a couple of hundred rounds through it, so far it's functioned without a flaw. And, for its small size, the Shield is very accurate. more

    havn't shot it yet, BUT...
I waited for a couple of weeks for my 45 Shield to get to the store and it was well worth the wait. I was surpised to find the pistol came with three mags, one being an extra extended 6+1. I was not sure if the Shield wo...uld come with or without a safety either, but it doesn't have one, and that doesn't really matter to me. I haven't shot the gun yet but I've taken it apart and put it back together, with ease. I have been practicing drawing it from a concealed holster. I love the way this pistol feels on my side, and in the hands. I'm sure I will be happy with the way it functions while shooting it too. It is a nice looking firearm. I've been stocking up on 45 ammo, ready to hit the range. more

.45 Shield a handful? Not too bad
Having shot the S&W Shields in 9mm (my wife stole this one from me).40 cal and .45 auto, I would say the .40 and .45 have similar recoils. The new .45 Shield has a fairly aggressive texture on the grip that makes it ...feel very secure in your hands. The trigger pull is good with a fairly short reset. I've put a hundred rounds or so through it without any issues. The 6-round magazine is nice for concealability, but the extra length of the 7-round magazine gives you a little more to hang on to. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Shield in any caliber. more

    Very nice 9mm
I really like this pistol in 9mm. The only drawback I have with it is that mine is very picky about the brand of ammunition it will fire. A top brand would jam every other round, switched to a cheaper brand and it worked... outstanding. Definitely recommend, just get out to the range to be sure of what you have. more

    SHIELD .45ACP AWESOME!!!
I also own the 9mm version and must say the .45ACP is a much better shooter than the 9mm sibling. The textured stippling on the .45ACP is also way better than the 9mm version and I simply love this .45ACP as it is nearly... identical in stature as the 9mm more

    Good but not Great
The muzzle flip on this is very noticeable but at distances of 21ft or less it is a fine defensive gun. I prefer the Glock 30 as it has less felt recoil. The only other thing that bothered me was slide stop when shooting... would get pushed up on occasion causing slide to lock back. more

    Reliable Handgun
Have this chambered in .40. I like the size (it's a carry) but my hands are a little big for it. Because of that, it tends to jump a little and sometimes feels like there isn't as much control as there could be. It hasn'...t had any malfunctions after about 1,000 rounds and cleaning it is a breeze. That's why I'm giving it four stars. I much prefer my M&P 9mm. more

    Only two problems.
I love this handgun with two exceptions. The slide is a bear to rack. Much harder then all my other semi-auto handguns. The wire you need to move down in the action to remove the slide seems like an afterthought. You nee...d a screwdriver or pocket knife to push it down. You could not do this in the dark. Love this pistol
Bought the Shield 9mm about a month ago. Have put 600 rds through it so far and love it. Shoots very accurately, and follow-up shots are nice and accurate. I was able to hit the target at 25yds and then again with quick ...follow-up shots that hit where I aimed. Recoil is nice and easy and so far I havent had any issues with ammo. I have had 2 rds that failed to fire, both had a good mark in the primer from the striker, but both rds came out of the same box so I think it may have been that lot of ammo. more

    At Last
I bought, sold, traded, and tried out more pistols than I can remember until I finally found this little gem. My search s over! First, and most importantly for a sd gun, it is flawless. After over 500 rounds, including s...ome with steel casings, it has been absolutely flawless. I have not had one single failure with the gun. Next, its accuracy is surprising for a gun with such a short barrel. Just to see how accurate it is, I tried an 8" target at 60 feet. 14 out of 15 hit the target, and I am not a particularly good shot. It is very comfortable to shoot and to carry. My only initial issue was that the slide was hard to rack (that may relate to why it is so reliable). After 500 rounds, either it has softened up a little or I have gotten stronger. Either way, even that is no longer an issue. Oh, one other thing, I chose the model with a safety. It is very easy to engage and disengage, but I have absolutely no concern about it accidentally going into or out of "safe" mode. more

    Best 9MM Compact I've Tried
I’m a revolver user from way back and my primary weapon has always been an S&W Model 66 357 which I acquired back in 1980. Great for backpacking or camping but not so good for concealed carry. Even the compact revo...lvers still have that fat little cylinder to deal with and only hold 5 rounds so I decided to go with a semiauto and spent around 3 months researching before I settled on the M&P Shield. Out of the box the clip springs are stiffer than a day old dead possum but they do loosen up after a few reloads to where you can get a full load in. Save your thumb some wear and tear and load them one round short the first few times. This is one of the skinniest guns out there but the grip is perfect for my medium size hands, especially with the 8 round extended magazine. With the 7 round mag if you’re a guy, or a woman with larger than pixie size hands, your pinkie will probably end up under the grip butt, but not that big of deal as the light recoil of a 9mm isn’t going to try and rip the gun out your hands anyway. After shooting this a few times the grip on my son’s 40 cal with a double stack clip felt downright porky and unnatural. The trigger is the best I’ve felt on a small DA pistol and far better than much more expensive guns I tried. The pull is light and fairly short and you can feel it hit a slight stop just before the discharge point which for me really helps with the accuracy since you’re not guessing when the gun is going to go off. As far as accuracy I have no complaints and can get consistent 3 inch groupings at 15 yards and stay in a 6 inch circle even firing as fast as I can pull the trigger.Overall this is the best I’ve found for a concealed carry weapon with reasonable firepower and highly recommend it. As a plus, the 7 round clips will fit in a folding knife belt case so you can carry an extra clip on your belt without having to use a bulky clip holder. more

This is the best carry gun I have ever owned and I have owned a bunch. What I like best is the slim & light design. I have the 9mm. I am 6ft. 4in. and 225 lbs. and it fits good in my hand not like you are holding on ...to half a handle. It does not feel like you have a brick on your belt and does not stick way out making it hard to conceal. It shots better than it looks and carries. Very solid and smooth. Its a little gun that shoots like a big gun. I purchased this gun due to all the positive feed backs from lots of different web sites. Know I can add to the positive feed backs. Great gun . Perfect Shield
I've looked long n hard for the perfect conceal carry gun and found it in the Smith @Wesson Shield. There is nothing I would want to change about this gun. Smith has created the ultimate reliable, accurate and ease of co...ncealability in the market today. This is a made in America masterpiece at a price that also has no value completion. Nice Pistol
Very nice Pistol, I've put 500 rounds of 9mm though the M&P Shield with nice tight patterns. I have not had anything go wrong, no FTE. Moreover, the trigger has a nice crisp snap to it. The gun fits well in my hands.... I did add a rubber Pistol Grip which helps to get the muzzle back on target faster cutting on some of the high speed oscillation. It's a nice gun to take to the range and small enough to carry when needed. The Magazines pop in and out without a problem. And tear down for cleaning is easy and fast. I could tear it down out in the field if I had to. Unlike the Ruger LC9 that has a Slide Pin that slides out which could be lost in a heart beat. more

I was originally looking to buy the Walther CCP but after a great conversation with the salesperson at the store, took his recommendation and bought the M&P Shield 9mm.I am so glad I did, this thing is a nail driver ...right out of the box and is fun to shoot. I know everyone is different but I think the sights work quit well for quick sight line pickup. I took it out the first time and ran 200+ rounds thru it and had zero issues of any kind.As you read in almost all reviews, the gun is tighter than you can imagine right out of the box but loosens up very quickly after running some rounds thru it....after about 20 it seemed to be much easier to handle. T...he gun shoots very nice and i was pleasantly surprised with the recoil. Follow up shots were fast and accurate. Had no problems keeping groups of 4" at 15 yards The slide was very stiff and the slide release was very hard to release with just your thumb without sliding the slide back a bit with your other hand. The feel of this gun is outstanding. Perfectly ba...lanced n great size n weight for CC. This gun is just so popular now because I think it's the perfect CC on the market. Glocks late entry G43 is not making the in roads vs the Shield. One thing I will recommend- at the gun store rack the slide n get used to it n watch some you tubes on dis assembly n reassembly be cause initially the recoil spring will be stiff and u may think that the slide is a pain to rack and lock open. But that will loosen up. The construction of the Shield n steel recoil spring should last a lifetime. This is a great piece of engineering by S&W !! more

    Disappointed
At this point, I am disappointed in the Shield 9 for two reasons. First is grip comfort. I've tried both a custom sleeve, and the custom cut Talon Grip Tape. It's workable, but not naturally comfortable on initial grabs ...without adjusting how it sits in my hand. The trigger is borderline horrendous to me, and I'm not a trigger snob. It's a bit gritty which I don't really mind, but it requires a lot of pull pressure to reach break point on the pull. I don't have a measurement too, but I'd say it's 7.5 pounds plus. I start developing shot pull somewhere over 6 pounds. So this presents a HUGE problem for me.The last thing I'll mention is the slide. It's very tight. My wife has no problems handling & racking a full sized PX4 45 cal, but really struggles with the Shield 9. It's tighter than any slide I've shot with. Not a problem for me. But for some women, and less experienced shooters, it could pose a problem. It is reliable. I've fired close to 1000 rounds through it with various 115, and 124 grain ammo without any jams or misfires. And that is important. But after two weeks of handling the Shield, I'm going to trade it out this weapon for something else. It's just not agreeing with me for multiple reasons. more

    Great Compact Handgun
I have the 9mm and I love it. It is extremely well made and durable, and it is small enough for concealed carry and large enough to comfortably fit in my average sized hands. I also have a very compact 380 that's just to...o small to handle comfortably or quickly. The Shield is light and has a nice balance of size and weight and the kick is not as much as you might expect from a 19 ounce gun which allows for getting a quick back-on-target second shot. The trigger spring was a little stiff to begin with but broke in nicely and feels just right now. more

    Excellent CCW
Why only 4 stars? This rating is colored by how well the M&P Shield 9 meets my original intended purpose. I wanted a 9mm for instructing a new shooter with small hands. The hand size is not an issue, but racking the ...slide takes some strength. Also, the recoil is a bit snappy, and that's something I thought I'd never say about a 9mm. (I Mostly shot Winchester White Box, which is typically snappy but a good test.) Last ding is on the heavy trigger; it smoothed out well before 100 rounds but is still heavy. So for these reasons, plus the simple fact of a short sight radius, I'd not recommend for a new shooter or for one with limited hand/arm strength. more

    Best CCW pistol out there
I really believe the S&W Shield in either 9mm or .40 S&W is a great choice if you are shopping for a CC pistol. On my 5'-11" 160lb body the Shield in a IWB holster at the 4 o'clock position is nowhere to be ...seen in shorts & a tee-shirt.For the price you are getting a high quaility firearm that comes with 2 magazines and is backed up by S&W's lifetime service warranty. Get the 40
Love this gun. It has great balance, and feels great in the hand. I have a friend that raved about the 9mm Shield. Well, I like to carry a bigger round so I got the 40. Have taken it out twice shooting well over 200 roun...ds without a hiccup. Its easy to shoot and the recoil is very manageable. I highly recommend this gun for concealed carry. I would love to see it in a 45ACP. more

    Great CCW!!!!
Just got this in 9mm last week and it is fantastic. Have 200 rounds through it and it has been flawless. 150 rounds of WWB and Federal FMJ. 50 rounds of Federal HST 124 gr which is my carry round. It has very little reco...il. Follow up shots are fast and accurate. Had no problems keeping 4" groups of 23 rounds at 10 yards(2-8 round mags and a 7). The gun conceals well and is accurate. I am very happy with my new carry gun. more

    Great CCW!!!!
Just got this gun last week and it is fantastic! Put 200 rounds through it today and it was flawless. Shot 150 rounds of FMJ and 50 rounds of Federal HST 124gr. The gun shot very well with very little recoil compared to ...my M&P 45. Follow up shots were fast and accurate. Had no problems keeping groups of 4" at 10 yards shooting standing. The gun conceals very well and is a pleasure to shoot. I am very happy with my new carry gun. more

    Amazing Handgun
I tried out several 9's from Kimber to Springfield to Ruger and Smith. The two main key factors in choosing the Shield are 1) the recoil and 2) the trigger. The Shield has the best recoil, allowing me to stay on target s...hot after shot. It's truly an aim and shoot firearm which makes it great for personal defense. The trigger is two stage and its very predictable. When compared to the XDS, the trigger on the Shield is the winner hands down. more

Low Profile, high quality, and confidence
After shooting both the .40 and 9 mm Shield, I selected the latter as a cw because the .40 does have quite a bit of 'snap' and it was more difficult to get back on target for rapid follow-up shots. I join the league of o...ther reviewers who really enjoy the trigger in the Shield: crisp and not too heavy, probably the best one in my collection. The take-down and reassembly is almost effortless, but be careful of the magazine retainer if you plan to remove the spring--it will take off like Ricochet- Rabbit! The weight, grip, and feel are very natural for my moderate-sized hands and allows for ease of pointing/movement. The rear and front dot sights are bright and of about same size, and not a lot of space btwn them when properly aligned . I actually appreciate the red, pop-up chamber-loaded indicator. As for accuracy, I am not a great pistol shooter, but my first time out the Shield had a < 3" group@ 7 yds. from a hand-rested position. My only reserve star is the safety (if you have one): in my hand it hits near the web at the bottom of my thumb and is a bit awkward to move quickly. Also, I highly recommend a magazine loader, as the last round or two are almost impossible to load by hand; so save your thumbs and some frustration. In sum this is a good bargain semi auto pistol that handles easily, has a sleek profile, and packs confidence. more

    9MM SHIELD - HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I purchased the Shield after having several jamming issues with an LC 380. I have fired over 300 rounds through the Shield with absolutely no issues. I have a very high confidence in this gun. Accuracy was very good but ...I do use the 8 round mag with the pinky extension. The sights were fine. The slide was very stiff and difficult to lock back until broken in. It is not ambidextrous. The safety is unobtrusive. I am new to CCW and purchased it for that specific purpose, and although I have not carried it yet, it seems like a very good choice. more

    Great buy
I've always been a fan of S&W pistols and they're made right here in the USA. I bought the 9mm version with the intention to get my CCW permit. It's the perfect size for my medium sized hands and the recoil of the 9m...m is comparable to my .38 spl. Surprisingly accurate out of the box too I was able to get 4" groups at 10 yards. I put 125 rnds thru it at my local range and it appears to like certain brands ammo better than others which is probaly true for many semiauto loaders. Overall I'm very impressed with this pistol & highly reconmend it if you are on the market for a compact 9mm. Comes with two magazines (7rnd & 8rnd) & a slide lock more

    Does everything right
I wanted to purchase a M & P shield as my initial conceal carry gun. Could not find one in stock anywhere, so I bought a Ruger LC9. It's a nice gun, but I still wanted a Shield. I eventually purchased a 9mm shield at... Cabelas. Fantastic gun. Feels right in the hand. Hit bull eyes first time at the range. I also own a Ruger LCP, and I take them all to the range, but the shield does everything right. Great trigger. Great gun. Highly recommend. Smith and Wesson hit another home run with this gun. more

    Shield in 9 mm
Had another brand gun and a few months back, rented a Shield to try. That night the trigger broke on my CW9 making the decision to buy a Shield even easier. Even though it was a high mileage rental, it just felt right. P...urchased my own two days later. The broken gun was fixed by gun maker at no charge and sent through Cabelas where originally purchased. Hamburg store staff was fantastic with the entire process of Shield purchase, CW9 repair and then purchased from me after repair. Took that money and bought more ammo and holster specific to the Shield.I have more confidence in my Shield than I ever did with the other 9. Fits in my hand well, more accurate, better trigger action and have had 0 issues. S&W has been my choice for handguns for over 25 years and the Shield is another piece I am proud to own.The 8 round clips are the choice for me as the little extension makes for a more secure fit and feel in my hand. Reason I have several 8 round clips. Without question, my best handgun purchase, next to my other S&W guns! more

    GREAT Concealed Carry Pistol
I was looking for a small concealed carry pistol that was not too small for my large hands. I went into Cabela's about 6 weeks ago and the sales Man suggested the M&P Shield in 9mm. As soon as I put it in my hand it ...felt Great. It felt natural. Needless to say I purchased it. I have been conceal caring my M&P Shield IWB everywhere I go! From morning to night! I don't even know I have it on me! People don't even know I have it with me. I can't think of anything bad about this pistol! I did read about some people having problems with the safety going on when conceal caring. It NEVER happened to me!!! The safety is not loose! It clicks in place when it's on and off! M&P Shield for CCW
This was my first handgun purchase and I would have to say it was a GREAT buy. I went with the .40 cal for stopping power and is easier to find ammo compared to the 9mm. The recoil is moderate. First time out I shot a ti...ght group at 15 feet with no adjustments to the sights. The sleekness of the gun will make a great CCW. That’s one of the main reasons I purchased the Shield. The Shield was by far the thinnest .40 cal out there. Disassemble, cleaning, and reassemble is a breeze. No tools required for field strip. That’s a plus in my book. It does come with one 6 round and one 7 round mag. Recommend buying extra 7 round mags or else you’ll be loading mags often at the range. Buy them when you can find them they are hard to get unless you order online. The magazines load good. last one is a bit stiff but what pistol mag isn’t. I would recommend this awesome fire arm to anyone that is considering carrying or needs a backup gun while on duty.Semper Fi more

    Would buy it again, but...
Purchased for CCW.Good value for the price. I enjoyed putting 100 rounds through it since I purchased it one month ago. My biggest, and only concern is the accuracy starting @ 20 feet. Rounds would hit about 1 foot in al...l directions from the center of target. At 30 feet, I was lucky to hit the 2' X 2' target at all.Yes, I know this a personal protection weapon, for close quarters shooting. My first semi-auto pistol. GET ONE.
I had my sights set on a S&W 442 snub nose J-Frame revolver for simplicity of use for an everyday conceal carry pistol. When i looked at the dimensions and compared the two, the Shield is more compact, slimmer, and h...olds not 5 rds but 7+1 or 8+1 in the 9mm, which is the same caliber size as the .38 spcl 442. Great Gun
This is a great concealed carry gun, which will easily fit in your pocket. I have two of them in .40 -- one for me, and one for my wife -- purchased several months apart). There was formerly a problem with some of the .4...0s with the 7-round magazine dropping out (only with my first one -- sent it in to S&W, came back in less than 2 weeks -- fixed). My understanding is that S&W has fixed this problem and that it's not happening anymore -- never happened with my second, later second purchase. Highly recommend this gun. more

    .40 shield mag drop
bought my .40 shield on a wednesday took it to the range on saturday and had to send it back to s&w for repairs on monday. starting with the very first shot in the 7rd mag it would fallout. put over 50 rounds through... the 7rd mag each time it would pop out. could not get it to shot two times in a row. i hope S&W gets the problem fixed because from what i understand the 7rd mag popping out has been happening to a lot of other people for some time now. i own maybe a dozen different S&W never a single problem with any of them. hope this is just something that has a easy fix and i have my .40 shield back to the range shooting with 100% relieblity like all my other S&W's. more

VERY HAPPY I BOUGHT THREE OF THESE!
I carry the full size M&P 45 and my wife carries the full size 9mm. I was looking for a compact for summer as well as something more concealabe for carry at seminary, church and for both of us while jogging. Also my ...oldest daughter turns 21 this year and is petite (5'3" 110 with small hands and has been shooting many other compacts at the range looking for her carry gun. When I saw the reviews for this gun and based on the fact that my 45 and wifes 9mm are the best guns we have fired out of the 15 or so guns we have shot at the range, we felt confident purchasing these guns without testing them. We were right. I took all three guns to the range this past Monday and man was I impressed.I put 50 rounds through each gun. No FTE, misfires, or stovepipes. The trigger is much crisper like the reviews say than my 45 or 9mm and the reset is excellent. I was able to shoot fist size groupings at 7,10 and 15 yards while shooting rapid fire #which for me is 7-8 rounds in 3-4 seconds# This gun is very easy to bring back online as the recoil is minimal. #maybe it feels that way to me after shooting my 45 for so long# the only thing I had reservations about before looking at the gun at Cabelas was the fact it has an external safety. It is a stiff safety and placed where it is basically impossible to engage on accident #I tried couldn't do it# If you do not like external safties as I do, just leave it off and your set to go. I could write a small book sharing about all the different things that people want in a gun, but all I will say is GO TO YOUR RANGE WHEN THEY GET THESE AND TRY IT YOURSELF. Great gun!! Very glad I bought three. more
