    Perfect handgun
This is my very first gun and I can’t believe how easy it is to handle and how secure it feels. It’s powerful but light. I consider it to be great for smaller people like me. I don’t know too much about... handguns but I did do my research before my purchase and I couldn’t find anything negative about it. It seems to be one of the most bought and most popular of the S&W for self defense. more

HiViz Sights and so much more
I had been looking for a replacement pistol as an upgrade for my first 9mm. I had settled on a standard S&W M&P Shield 9, and dropped into Academy to test the gun's feel. However, next to the standard Shield... 9mm in the case was this Performance Center version with HiViz sights that caught my eye. Okay, the small price increase for the 'updated pistol' was worth it just to get those better sights (for my old eyes) and I left with the HiVis sight version little knowing what else I was getting. When I got home and started cleaning the pistol before shooting I noticed the barrel and slide were ported, and looking on-line I quickly found that the trigger was also improved. Nice extras! But when I finally took the gun to the range I was more than impressed. This pistol shoots like my 22 cal semi-auto. Trigger feel is crisp and light. Recoil is easy and keeping the rounds on target was fun. Shooting 100 rounds was no problem on my hands, and I was more quickly more accurate that any other 9mm I had ever shoot. I've put ~200 rounds through it in two visits to the range with a variety of ammo types with minor issues. I did have a couple 'failure to feeds' that clearly due to my failing to release the slide cleanly when starting a new mag. I am very pleased this pistol. The HiViz sites are easy on my eyes, the trigger is clean, and porting not only helps this novice shooter stay on target. The ports 'breath fire' out the ports. It is a "can't miss" attention getting on the range. more

    Fantastic gun for the money
I have had zero issues with this gun. I am 5' 10" with medium hands and the gun works great for me. Easy to hold, great sites, good round capacity, easy to carry and it feels very solid!

    Do not recommend
I’ve put, at most, 350 quality rounds through this firearm and it has jammed twice; I’ve had to readjust the rear site twice, and today at the range the front fiber optic tube popped out and landed on my slee...ve. It is a great looking pistol but the quality is very poor. more

    Mishap
On the very first round fired the slide went back and stuck rearward. I had to send it back to the factory for repairs. I recently got it back with no word from the factory as to what was wrong with the gun or what they ...fixed. I have not shot the gun since it being sent back. At this point I can't trust the gun to be reliable. It would have been more reassuring had S&W told me what they found wrong with the gun. I have own and shot guns for over 30 years and this was the first for me with a brand new gun right out of the box. more

    Perfect , Accurate Well Built
Purchased this pistol as a daily carry gun. Perfect build quality and has a good solid feel in the hand. While breaking it in at the range fed it cheap Remington range ammo and not one jam during 350 rounds. Ran 25 round...s of premium ammo and again no problem. I purchased this pistol more for the sights than the ported barrel. I have shot the non ported version and personally I don´t see much of a difference. A new shooter might but I have been shooting for over 35 yrs so for me any difference is negligible. Trigger pull is good. After the take-up the trigger is firm, smooth and crisp. The only thing I do not like is the sequence needed to field strip the pistol. You have to look down into the weapon, find a yellow colored lever and push it down. Not hard to do just an extra step that should not be necessary. All in all a Great weapon for the price. more

    Accurate Conceal Carry
I purchased the S&W M&P Shield Performance Center 9mm two days ago. I had narrowed my options down to this gun and the Springfield XDS 9mm. I have the Springfiekd XDM 4.5 and it's my favorite gun to shoot wi...th perfect performance so I was leaning slightly towards the XDS. However, my local Academy had a one day sale on the Performance Center Shield (10108) for $389 ($70 off normal price) so I pulled the trigger and went with the Shield. Yesterday I took it to a range and put 100 rounds of Winchester white box through it. Gun was very accurate with zero failures to feed. The grip it different from the XDS, but still very comfortable with the 8 round extended mag. I did not like the feel of the 7 round flush fit mag so I will definitely purchase another 8 round mag as my backup. Fiber optic sites were easy to see. Trigger was good with easy reset. The only complaint that I have is regarding the mags. The springs are very tight and I had to put a lot of pressure (excessive to say the least) in order to put the 7th and 8th round in the 8 round mag and the 7th round in the 7th round mag. I've loaded them up for storage so hopefully they will loosen up a bit with time and use. Overall a great gun for the value. more

I bought this gun about 3 weeks ago looking for a sub-compact small gun to concealed/home defense. And I looked into the Performance Center and is just wow. Everything is perfect with the gun. Would definitely recommend this gun to anybody. BTW, I love the trigger. more

    Accurate and Thin
This is a very accurate and well made pistol. At 10 yrds I was taking out the center with just point shooting. Retention shooting was no problem. I was NOT spewed with hot gas like I thought I would be. It took 9mm facto...ry target rounds, Critical Defense rounds and my own reloads with no issues (100 rounds each). This will replace my PPS as my EDC. Too bad is it single stack but the pro's out weigh the con's. I thought the porting was the answer to a non-existent question but I was able to come back on target quickly and the flash did not bother me. There are women who take my classes and I will let them try it out because it fits very well into a smaller hand. I'm impressed with the engineering. more

Just be aware that the Specs state 3.10 " barrel. However this edition is actually 3.75. Just advising so when you go to match to a holster. This is specific to the Performance Center Ported Barrel edition

    Perfect for EDC
I had been in the market for a new single-stack 9mm for everyday carry, and had basically narrowed my choice down to the S&W Shield. Finally having saved up enough money, I strolled into my local Academy ready to buy... it. Little did I know, Academy had just started carrying the new Performance Center version of the Shield. With the upgraded trigger, ported barrel and slide, and high-vis sights for only ~ $60 more, I couldn't pass it up. While I don't have a regular Shield to compare the trigger to side-by-side, I will say that the trigger pull is reasonably light, crisp, and consistent, with a solid reset. I love it. The sights are nice and the recoil is definitely manageable. Even with the ported barrel the little guy does have some kick, but that's to be expected from a gun this size. Overall, I give this gun 5/5 stars without a doubt, and would highly recommend it to anyone. more

    Night Sights sucks
I bought I though best SW shield, of course in terms of its price is the highest. Night sights. The night front night sight broken(does not illuminate) on the first day I picked up from Cabelas. i dd not find it out unti...l I tried the night sights in a dark room at home. Cabelas won't take care of me coz I already took it home. So I contact S&W and spent 6 weeks to get it fixed. Then I took the gun to the range and shut about 50 rounds. Then the front sights broken again with the class on it burst. I sent it back and wait another 5 weeks. Now I have a new front sight but it's much weaker than its rear sights. It is only 1/5 lightness of the rear sights. I contacted them again and see what they say. To sum up, it stay longer at S&W repair shot than stay at my home by now. Very bad product and bad service. I with the company will be the next gun manufacture like Springfield that went out of business. more

    Good value when on sale
Got the 9mm over the G43- the grip size worked better for my large hand, and it was cheaper than the 2.0 due to sale (2.0 also had really abrasive grip). No failures of any kind so far. Trigger reset is good. Trigger tak...e up & break were a little gritty at first, improving w/ break-in & dry fire practice. Accuracy good once broken in. Sights are great outdoors, good indoors, and passable in low light. Ported barrel does seem to reduce flip, and only adds a small bit of work to cleaning barrel & slide. Added a Talon rubber grip wrap for traction, and it helped- a lot. So far, best group on defensive ammo has been SIG V-Crown 124 gr. (+- 1" @ 5-7 yds). This is in a very competitive segment w/ newer products, but it worked well for me. On sale it is a good value if you stick with the trigger & sights it has. At regular price, there are other very good competitors to consider. more

    Nice EDC
I purchased the PC in 45 & liked it so much I went out & got the 9mm. Holsters seem to fit both calibers well however the 45's grip is more aggressive & I find it rubs my side raw using smaller IWB holsters. ...Switched up to Alien Gear 3.0 to solve that issue. Sights on both are very easy to pick up target both in regular & dim lighting. I own a standard Shield also & feel no significant difference in muzzle flip shooting the ported barrel. No issues firing either weapon. Very confident both would get the job done if needed. more

Shoots straight and does well ev...en at medium distances. EDC is especially nice for me. I carry inside the waste band and forget it is there most of the time. The biggest thing for me is I have a lot of confidence in this guns ability. The only complaint I have is the trigger is a little gritty out of the box. Friendly weapon for novice
Pleased with the ease of disassembly procedure and simplicity of design. A great weapon to learn the rudimentary construction of striker-fired pistols. Surprisingly reduced recoil and muzzle flip during firing compared t...o other like pistols I have fired in the past. Accuracy is excellent. I easily qualified for CCW in Ohio shooting this weapon for the second time. I consistently hit just a bit low, but, clearly, I am the accuracy-limiting aspect of this system. I need to adjust my sight picture with PRACTICE. Highly recommend this fine American weapon. more

    Performance Center & Cabela's mishap
I bought the "Performance Center" model with night sights to receive the very best concealed carry gun. The front sight was bad, I have never fired the gun as it was sent back to S&W for repair. That was a ...month ago, and I still do not have the gun to try. I spent a premium and did not receive a premium level of service from S&W, and Cabelas did not see the bad sight either. In summary, a lot of money spent, and I still don't have a gun in my possession to use. more

    Sweet handling pistol
The S&W M&P Shield Performance Center Ported pistol is my new favorite. Why?- easy function, very intuitive and feels natural in the hand- accurate. I was shooting 8/10 in a 6 inch circle at 25 yards after shooti...ng about 100 rounds and getting used to the sights and the recoil.- using Blazer FMJ ammo, I had no misfires and two of us were exchanging firearms and finding it to be very easy to accommodate to this pistol and get very accurate very quickly.- I really liked the effect of the porting on recoil. I could quickly regain the target and squeeze off the next shot due to very little recoil. -Feel in hand is excellent for a shooter with relatively small hands. The grips made for confident control. The 1" or less grip width was perfect for me. The trigger also is very confidence-inspiring. Just feels very 'natural' compared to three other handguns I was shooting at the same range. Best trigger pull. The gun just kept inspiring more confidence the more I shot it. - Sights were dead on and made it easy to acquire target smoothly. - I would recommend this handgun as a self defense weapon to anyone. While the 7/8 round limit means repeated loading at the range, as a single use personal carry weapon, it is just right. more

    GREAT CC HANDGUN, OUTSTANDING VALUE
You cant go wrong with $75 off at the store and another $75 Rebate....Usually this just means you have a manufacturer dumping low quality product....but this is not the case. I purchased mine a few weeks ago and have run... over 150 rounds through it with zero malfunctions. I did have to tweak the sight a little but now I'm consistently putting 8 rounds into the size of a baseball at 15 and 20 yds which is probably the max anyone would shoot a concealed carry weapon. This is a fine weapon and I would recommend it to anyone. more

    Quality Control?
Purchased gun and headed to the range. Shot about 50 rounds. Worked well, shot well. Went to tear down and clean the gun and the slide would not separate from the frame. Worked with it for awhile and called S&W suppo...rt. In less than two minutes S&W set up a ticket to get the gun in for service. I asked about shipping. "Two day FedEx." Okay. Ask about turn around. "Four weeks." I ask again. "Four weeks." I asked if S&W considered this reasonable on a defective new product, and I expressed my opinion I didn't think it was. Then Support hung up on me. I'd like to think S&W is better than that. more

Great Firearm at an Unbelievable Price
I'd carried a Glock 19 for carry but wanted something thinner for Spring/Summer. Great Shooter (Haven't shot mine yet but have shot 3 others) and sexy-looking pistol. My only caution is this firearm is extremely "st...iff" (Racking/Releasing Slide/Taking Down) so just be aware of that. I hear it doesn't improve much over time. more

    Great job S&W!
The 45 Shield is slightly larger than the 9mm Shield but fits all the holsters. The "ported" Performance takes the kick out of this relatively small 45 and is spot on at the range. The only negative (and I trul...y mean ONLY) is the grips are rougher than the 9 (assuming better grip for the added fire power) and can be a bit rough for the IWB and everyday wear but nothing some 400 grit paper can't tame (and did tame). NO REGRETS, gave my 9mm Shield to my significant other as the 45 has definitely replaced the 9. The picture posted is the 45 after I lightly sanded the "body" side of the grips. more

    Great CCW pistol
I've been a Glock fan for over 20 years. I've owned S&W revolvers, but the M&P Shield in .40 cal is my first semi-automatic from Smith & Wesson. I am very impressed. My gun is very accurate at distances up to... 25 yards, the trigger is crisp, and the felt recoil is not bad. The weight and size is great for concealed carry. Like other comments, the magazines are really stiff at first and will definitely put a tax on your thumb as you load them. However, they loosen with wear. more

    Amazing Gun
I am new to shooting (3 months) but found this to be an amazing gun. So amazing that I bought the 9mm version shortly after buying the .45. Comfortable grip especially with 7+1 magazine, and it has a nice weight to it. S...ights are easy to see. The gun is dead on accurate. I can keep groups at 2-3" @ 15yds consistently. I have shot the non ported version and I feel that the porting helps a great deal with recoil, and the "V" flame it produces is pretty cool. Very easy to disassemble and clean. I have shot roughly 500 rounds through the .45 ( Winchester,Federal,Remington)with no issues so far. This gun is perfect for CCP. more

Compact carry pistol with serious knock down power ! 45 ACP is tops and add the Performance Center up grade to make a Super Quality pistol ! M&P Performance Center 40
Excellent EDC firearm! Smith and Wesson hit a home run with their Performance Center Shield 40, the ported barrel and lightened slide really makes a big difference in recoil, about the same if not less than my standar...d Shield in 9mm, which makes for super quick follow up shots on target. The trigger feels much smoother and crisper than the standard model too. Highly recommended more

    VERY ACCURATE CONCEALED CARRY PISTOL
I purchased the Performance Center Ported Shield as a close in self defense pistol. I took it out to the range to sight in, and was surprised and pleased that it shot dead on at 15 yards. I did not have to drift the sigh...ts or make any other changes. The Shield digested both hand loads and various factory 9 mm rounds perfectly, and the recoil and muzzle rise was very moderate for such a short and light pistol. I took it out the range a second time to get more familiar with it, and found that I could consistently hit small .22 cal. steel type targets at 15 yards or more. I had never expected a short barrel, carry pistol to be this accurate. My hats off the the Performance Center for their work on making a great trigger pull and an accurate pistol right out of the box. more

    Nice S&W
Very Impressed with my new S&W ported Performance Center Shield 9 mm . Fits well in my hand and shot fantastic right out of the box at 21 and 31 feet. The muzzle flip was minimal due to the porting , something I noti...ced right away. Did get good groupings using Hornandy Critical Defense 115 grains ftx. Handled several types of FMJ ammunition without any feeding issues. I loved the fiber optic sights as these old eyes need a little extra . I've owned the base Shield for several years and it was always a good reliable carry pistol. This Performance Center version is so much better. The fiber optic sights really help with faster target acquisition, the trigg...er is much smoother and with the ported barrel I can't tell the difference in recoil between this .40 S&W and my 9mm base Shield. A Good Shooter.
We own two of these; one regular Shield and one Performance Center. Both shoot really well. Using Blazer Brass 115s & 124s they shoot to point of aim at 7 & 10 yds. They both just tear out the center of the targe...t. I have large hands, so I needed to add Hogue's slip on grip to help me with my hold during shooting; my wife just loves hers without the added grip. The trigger on the PC version is smoother and a bit lighter. The fiber optic sights on the PC version help me as I am a reading glasses guy. The porting on the PC version helps a bit with double tapping. With over 1000 rounds through these Shields we've never had a FTF or FTE with factory ammo and with mid to upper end reloads. We both highly recommend these Shields. Because of their small size and the smaller grip area on the slide, some may find them a bit hard to "rack the slide" when new. So try "racking the slide" before purchasing. They do lighten up a bit after a few hundred rounds. Cheers. more

Great gun, even for EDC, reduced muzzle flip!
So the main thing I keep reading about is something along the lines of "you'll melt peoples faces off with a ported weapon!" People, I wouldn't recommend using +P with a ported gun, but short of that, I use Spe...er Gold Dot, and WWB 9mm 115 grain ammo among other grains on a regular basis and have had NO issues. The ejected gases from this porting are minor at best. There are only TWO holes in the top of this barrel and they make the gases go in a "V" shape over the front of the gun. This effectively maintains your field of sight and also since its only two small holes, you don't get much "fire in the face" as it were even if you were directly over this gun (although not advised!!). That said, I love the feel of this Shield, and was so determined to see what was better, I actually bought the factory shield with Night Sights a week after buying this gun. I determined in numerous side-by-side comparisons that the Performance Center Shield 9mm was far superior as an EDC and overall a far more comfortable gun to shoot. The trigger is upgraded, which is another huge plus, the sights are fiber optic and super easy to remove and clean, and I never experience the sights "coming out" unprompted like another reviewer did. I don't know what he/she was doing!?! Lastly, the porting DOES reduce muzzle flip QUITE noticeably, to the point where the gun would definitely make the shooter more accurate under pressure in a gun fight. And ultimately, THAT I feel is the most important thing. Accuracy. Not worrying about a rare and unusual scenario where your wife is in the passenger seat and you point the gun at an intruder with the barrel 2 inches from her face. Just angle the gun slightly, or use the look of the gun as a threat and don't shoot. Or do any number of things... more

    Good - not Perfect
This is a good, very accurate 1911. I too had problems with the G10 grips coming loose after every trip to the range. Lock-Tite didn't fix the problem and made a mess of the threaded lugs.
