    Initial problems.
The SW22 pistol is excellent quality. I was surprised when my first attempt to fire the a round was unsuccessful. Turns out the bolt would not go into battery. I had to tap it forward 1/16" into place in order to pr...oceed. Next round: same thing. It became more reliable as I emptied the magazine. I tried releasing the bolt with the slide release, and made sure not to ride back the slide.I think it could be a feeding issue. I polished the contact areas of the bolt, the feed ramp, as well as the notch where the extractor and extractor groove. I will head to the range and report back. On a side note, another man was at the range beside me that just bought the Victory from the same store on the same week and he had zero issues. more

    Great and fun pistol
I bought pistol one week ago. Couldn't ask for a better handgun. I have put around 600 rounds through it so far. Almost perfect except it doesn't like cheap ammo. Easy to clean, accurate, and I love the fiber o...ptics. Really good for older eyes. Customer service was great also. Salesman was great. Buy it. You will not be disappointed. more

    Great target pistol
I picked up this gun and took it home to clean before going to the range. I fired 100 rounds with the best accuracy I have ever had. The gun feels amazing in my hand. It is a beautiful gun with a very nice finish. The on...ly downside I experienced was I had a tendency to engage the safety inadvertently. I'm sure its because I have very large hands. It is something I will have to work on. I would highly recommend this gun. more

    Fine Performance, Typical S&W Quality
I purchased this from the excellent Missouri City Academy. I own several .22lr handguns, my favorite being the S&W M&P .22 full sized. This was on sale at a great price, and I'm delighted at buying it. It...39;s much more substantial in the hand than my M&P .22, being all stainless. Finish is flawless, like jewelry. It's considerably heavier than my little Browning Buckmark, which gives no recoil at all. The sights are beautiful, I'll keep them also. Love the metal mags. Overall, I have no complaints. This is NOT for EDC, too heavy and too large. But--for everything else you'll love it. And I got it for $50 less than anywhere online. Thanks, Academy! more

    Great plinker
I bought this s few weeks ago and have ran 500+ rounds through it. Probably the best 22 pistol I have ever shot, fun accurate, great trigger and high quality. Super easy take down and cleaning. Only complaints are smalli...sh grip (good ergonomics but have to concentrate to keep firm grip), magazine reloading knob is small and hurts my thumb after reloading a few hundred rounds (easily remedied with mag reloading tool), and disassembly lug came out of barrel because factory forgot loctite (easy fix). i would buy again in a heartbeat. more

    GREAT 22 FIELD PISTOL
I'm basically a Ruger guy, but this S&W Victory is a GREAT PISTOL. I have fired thousands of rounds through the pistol and almost no problems (1 or 2 failures to fire with very old ammo). Very accurate and well ...balanced in the hand. To the guy who took the gun apart right after he purchased it, WHY? That is likely your problem. Other than wiping out the bore occasionally, I've put thousands of rounds through 22 pistols and never disassembled them. (Probably because Ruger 22's are so difficult to reassemble). You will not regret purchasing this pistol. more

    Quality firearm for my needs
Bought on Friday and put 600 rounds through it on Saturday. Didn't matter what ammo I was using. All bulk from Win, Rem and Fed. With 100 rounds of CCI MiniMags thrown in the middle. Not a single failure. I always w...ant to trust the manufacturer on pistol sights so I will get a 2nd shooter to make sure it is truly going left. I have had my GSG 1911-22 for 3 years and it mirrors this, going right side. Home striped it when I got back and was pleased with the lack of grime that is usually found with bulk 22. I can assume that it channeled it down the barrel as the end was the only place showing typical dirt for 600 rounds. This is a great shooter, can't wait to make a holster for it to carry when I am walking the fence line. more

    Great Shooter
After purchasing the SW22 on the recommendation of good review we are very pleased. The first time at the range we test fired 20 rounds each of 9 different brands of ammo. It functioned without one single problem. Firing... from the 7 yard line every one of the 180 rounds was within a two inch circle. Very pleased with this pistol and would highly recommend it if you want a good target or steel challenge pistol at a reasonable price. more

    Excellent gun
Bought this about 3 weeks ago! I have put about 400 rounds though the gun of various makes. The gun is accurate, bolt smooth, I have smaller hands so I will have to get an extension for the mag release. The safety is sup...er sinsitive (which I don’t like much). Overall it feels great in the hand, I love the weight and sights but most importantly it hits the target. Only rounds I had issues with were American Eagle 38 grain and some with the thunderbolt. No issues with federal match, CCI’s, federal Champion or brazzers. Also, I have had ZERO trouble with the takedown screw coming loose. I have read that Smith and Wession has fixed this issue and will also sent you a replacement screw if needed. more

    Excellent tack driver
I was in the market for a entry level target pistol for competition and being the S&W fan boy that I am, i needed no further convincing when I saw this pistol go on the Academy’s “hot deal” price. O...verall the pistol is heavy & solidly built, which is what you want in a target gun. Field stripping was easy and maintaince is a breeze. The fiber optic sights are very bright in daylight and required some minor adjustments to get on target. Swapping out the rear sight for the included rail was simple and with the addition of my ultra dot optics i now can give these guys a run for the money at our competitions. If you’re looking for a great target pistol you can’t go wrong with the sw22 Victory. more

One of the best target pistols I've shot
I've had this gun for about 2 months and have fed it about 2k rounds. It has one of the best triggers out of the box of any gun I've shot. I recently shot a friend mark IV with an aftermarket trigger and the Vi...ctory out of the box is almost as good. Whatever problems they were having with the disassembly screw have been corrected. I've stripped mine down a dozen times without issue and have had any trouble with the screw getting loose. It eats everything I've fed it without complaint. Excellent gun. more

    Great Gun!
Just bought this gun. Read all the reviews and even watched Hickok45. So here is my take, Great Gun! I fired multiple brands of 22LR and the gun was flawless. I shot both slow and rapid fire. I actually tried to get the ...gun to jam to no avail. The gun is easy to dissemble and clean. It was very accurate for an everyday shooter out of the box. The trigger has a crisp break. Overall I highly recommend this gun. The take down screw is a little tough to remove at first. I didn't have any issues with it during range time. I would recommend using a blue loc Tight if you has issues. more

    Great Gun!
This is a great rim fire pistol! Fun and cheap to shoot. Mine has fired everything that I have fed it. Definitely invest in the after-market "Halo" slide ring though. The slide is a bear to rack without it. Had... to send mine back to S&W for take down bolt issues (4 week turnaround). It was a S&W problem, not an Academy problem. more

    Troubles right away.
Maybe its just my bad luck, but I purchased this hand gun and took it to the range right away. First it would not fire at all, nothing, so I had the Range Gun Smith to take a look at it. He said it would probably require... better ammo, so we used the more expensive ammo, then it fired but jam. Second shot, Jam, Third shot, Jam. So the Gun Smith oiled it, Fired again, and it Jam again. It Jams on every shot. With a Fire Arm you can't just exchange it, and the place you purchase it from can't help you much. You have to send it thru the mail to the manufacturer to have it looked at and repaired. I called today to get a status update because Smith and Wesson received it back a week ago. They told me it hasn't been looked at yet. They need more time, its usually a 3 to 4 week turn a round to get your weapon back to you. more

    Unable to use
Purchased the gun, attempted to clean and oil it and the take down bolt head stripped. Not sure if the bolt is cross threaded or just over tightened from the factory. Called S&W today and it will be at least a 3 week... turnaround before I can even try out my purchase. Needless to say I'm quite disappointed. After a quick forum search seems others have experienced the same issue. Ironically some reviews have also had the bolt coming loose on it's own from use. Academy's staff was helpful and friendly and this is in no way their fault. more

    Great Target Pistol!
I bought mine about 2-3 weeks ago. I've fired 1200-1300 rounds, mostly Aguila. Initially, the pistol would not eject any brand rounds. I made a minor adjustment to the ejector and have had no issues since. It is MUC...H more accurate than I am! I would strongly recommend it! Yes, you do have to remove an Allen screw to field strip it. At least there is no mallet required. It's a modular pistol with after market accessories. more

    Good Enough
The sights are a help to old eyes. No trouble hitting two inch target at 15 and 30 yards. No issues with three different ammo brands. Trigger guard interferes with people who have big hands or fingers but a non-issue. Gr...ip feels good. Reduced load "quiet" ammo will not cycle the action dependably but won't in any other auto pistol either, and the piece was not designed for reduced loads. Accuracy seems comparable to the Ruger and Browning pistols and is better than the Walther .22's and cheap revolvers like Heritage. more

Very accurate but a bit picky on ammo
Ok, probably a bit early to judge, but purchased and initially ran the Winchester m22 ammo with no issues...then came the CCI quiet-22. Well, first shot was a FTE; then the next...in fact, it seemed it was always FTE. Ra...n 150 rounds of federal range...no issues, then back to the CCI quiet 22 (which has a very low velocity btw)...same problem with a failure to eject. Took apart for cleaning.....easy process (though I wish the Allen wrench tool was not required) inspected and cleaned...ensuring the proper lubricant was in the right places...etc. I would still recommend basis the construction, light trigger, excellent sights and accuracy out of the box, just ensure you review other comments on ammo (there seems to be some similar issues out there on the forums) Hey, it made the wife happy as she was grouping better than I was with my Glock 43!...Happy Wife, Happy Life! I do (and always have) appreciate the staff at Academy. Very professional and helpful more

One-hundred Percent Happy with the SW22 Victory!
One month ago, I bought the Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory from Bass Pro Shops online and picked it up five days later at my local Bass Pro store when the order came in. I mention this because the ease of ordering onlin...e was great. In a few hours on a Friday night, I did all of my own research for what would be a great target shooting .22 to buy for a working man on a weekly paycheck budget and the SW22 Victory was the pistol I settled on. Less than a week after purchasing the Victory before I ever fired it, on the recommendation of a family member, I also went out and purchased a Ruger Mark IV Target. I had to wait about two weeks to go the range and fire my pistols. I have read some mixed reviews for the SW22 Victory, but let me tell you this: I have come not to criticize the Victory but to praise it. The Victory grips suit me perfectly. I replaced the Ruger plastic grips with Ruger wood grips. I saw immediately before I ever fired the Victory that the fiber optic sights would make me a better shooter. The Ruger sights are black sights and I replaced them with fiber optic sights as well. I have been to the shooting range two times now and I have used only CCI Standard Velocity ammunition for both pistols and both pistols have fed, fired, and ejected 100% of the time, no malfunctions, with about 300 rounds fired through each. Both target pistols are excellent and you really can't go wrong with either one of them, but I am more accurate with the Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory with numerous holes in the paper touching one another. My groups with the Mark IV are close together but spaced. I am no great shooter by any means, so both pistols are making me look good. Both pistols are easy to clean and I give the cleaning edge to the SW Victory again. What it really comes down to is the SW22 Victory is more accurate for me and I made zero modifications to it, just took it to the range and shot it straight out of the box. Yes, yes, I recommend the Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory! With all of the customizations that you can make to this pistol, if you wish, I think Smith & Wesson hit a grand slam home run! I like the Mark IV, but now that I have shot it and the Victory, I would just as soon as purchased two of the Victory! more

Like it so much a bought another one
Absolutely live my two SW-22 Victory's. Both are outstanding shooters. The match grade barrel is extremely accurate. The trigger (is much better than the ones in the Ruger IV series), both of mine broke at 2.5 lbs.. As f...or the issue with the take down machined screw working loose all you need to do is add either a lock washer or a rubber o-ring. That'll solve that issue. The sights are excellent for outdoor use & indoor ranges with decent lighting. I decided to build two ridiculously accurate bulls eye guns from my Victory's. Added [TK] Triggers (2lbs. w/0 take-up & over-travel) & Magazine Bumpers. Volquartsen Barrels (1 Carbon Fiber & 1 SS Fluted). Both w/Volquartsen SS Muzzle Brakes. Each has Volquartsen Target Grips & Picatinny Rails. I mounted a Vortex Viper on one & a Vortex Venom on the other (6 MOA Dot size). Both guns are .5" five shot groups (if i do my part) offhand at 25 yards. I'm going to pick up another one & keep it all original. I highly recommend the SW-22 Victory!! more

I have shot about 500 rounds through her so far. not one malfunction at all. fit and finish are top notch. I love the sights. the trigger is good for a factory trigger but with a little sear polishing and a after market ...trigger WOW! the only downfall that I can see are the grips. they are a little bit slick and if your hands get moist the gun moves around some what. other than that fact this smith & Wesson is a winner!! more

    Surprisingly Accurate for price point.
First time shooting pistol today. About 100 rounds shot. 36g JHP HV did not feed well. The front of bullets is textured and not smooth. Gun was not cleaned prior to shooting as recommended by S&W. I will give feeding... problems a pass. Will also try different ammo.In photo I shot 10 shots at a 3" sticker at 7 yards. I shot offhand and did not have the most consistent point of aim since I had to "lollipop" the target with the factory setting on the sights. Nevertheless I had 4 shots touching twice. The wide shots are my error. The heavy barrel mitigates tremor and recoil. The pistol is well balanced with a center of gravity slightly forward of the trigger.Sights are easy to see and use. I think a red dot would cover up your entire grouping if it was a 4MOA dot.Trigger has a small amount of take up with a clean break. I shoot DA revolver (which is heavier than this pistol's trigger) and believe that not liking a 5# trigger is a training issue.I like that this gun is customizable but I don't know how much better it would get with a different barrel since the stock one shoots so well. I expect to get 2" groupings at 25 yards on a good day in the future.I am pleased with this pistol. It put a smile on my face when I kept hitting what I was aiming at. This is the gun for a new shooter to learn the basics. Also a good gun for people who like to shoot targets. more

I bought this gun from Bass Pro OKC a few months ago and it has quickly become a family favorite. Grip angle and features are similar to 1911 style. Very user friendly and accurate with all ammo we have tried. Sights are... awesome. It reminds me of the old High Standard Victory. more

    Loose screws
The sight elevation screw falls out on its own from the pressure of the elevation spring. S&W sent a new screw, spring, and nut and it does it again. I prefer not forfeiting the gun to S&W repair for six weeks to... possibly have it happen again. The two screws do not match two nuts tightly. Also, the barrel retainer bolt comes loose after a few hundred rounds. With two loose screws and a loose barrel bolt, I doubt this gun was thoroughly tested. This would be a good gun if not for the pesky little problems. more

    Rough Start
1st off I am not a pistol guy. Anything else I am proficient with so I wanted something fun to shoot, upgradable and to learn on.I looked at other .22 cal. I really like what the Victory offered easy to upgrade and clean... both I believe are very true. A 3 year old could take it down and put it back together. At first I called it a jambomatic. I tried everything from cci stinger to Federals. Jamb every clip 1 or 3 times. Called my local Cabelas they said they could send it in for free. So I did 3 weeks later it came back.I asked one of the sales man which ammo in the 1240 fps gave the most problems he told me one. I bought 50 rounds of it to test with. It shot them without any flaws. I bought a brick and shot 300 rounds of that no problems. I shot every brand I own still not a Jamb. The repair statement said they buffed the bore and adjusted the ejector. I mounted a red dot on it and it seems very accurate. The only thing I am not crazy about is the plastic feeling safety. Other than that it's a winner now. more

    Easy re-entry to handgun ownership
Shot 2000 rounds with this since my purchase 4 months ago as a good gun to get back into hand gun ownership since 18 years ago. This is a major confidence builder as it's easy to shoot, little recoil, fairly easy to clea...n and great safety features with easy sights to see. Had 2 FTEs which probably was the ammo. The adjustable rear sight loosen on me without my noticing it until it popped off. Luckily I found the spring and the screw. Used Loctite and it was fixed. This is a great gun to learn on, just plain old fun to shoot and it doesn't break the bank after I shoot 200 rounds when I go to the range. more

    Love this pistol!
This is a great pistol! Perhaps its best feature is a crisp, moderate-weight trigger. It stays cleaner than any of my former .22 pistols, and the takedown design is simple and foolproof. As for accuracy, my best group so... far is 5 shots under a half inch at 50 feet (off a sandbag). Other owners tell me it seems to love about anything they put in it. I absolutely love this pistol for target shooting. It has been very well engineered and ergonomically designed to fit in just about any hand that's holding it. It took me a very short amount of time to run 300 rounds thr...u it with not one problem using Winchester 36gr, 1280 fps, hollow point copper plated bullets. Not one feed or ejection problem. Easy to load, quick target acquisition as there is little or no recoil. I did not experience the problems others have mentioned about the take down screw, in fact I returned the pistol to S&W as we could not remove the screw at all after we twisted two Allen wrenches. Good news is they made the needed repair and it is back to me within a few weeks with new wrenches. Looking forward to getting back out to the range and running many more rounds down range. You can't go wrong with this pistol whether you are new to shooting or an experienced shooter. more

    Ammo Savings And Fun
I purchased this and have had no regrets. This pistol is simply put a breath of fresh air into the Target Pistol realm. The 22/45 and Buckmarks are good as well but the takedown and reassembly leave a lot o be desired. T...he SW22 is as accurate as the shooter with high end features to make anyone a better shooter. The trigger out of the box is great crisp and audible. The aftermarket is growing fast to handle any customization you might want to do to suit an individual taste. The weight is the only possible downfall if you want to say it is. I don't mind the weight for my purposes of use. I am completely satisfied with this great gun. more

    Best 22LR Target Pistol
The SW22 is a fine and outstanding piece of engineering. It is very well made, fit and finish are impeccable. After 500 rounds of bulk ammo and very accurate. adjustable fiber optic sights are spot on and the picatinny r...ail is easy to install. The magazines are very smooth and easy to load 10 rounds. All screws were tight and stayed tight even after take down cleaning and reassembly. Trigger is excellent. more

Most reliable .22LR pistol I have owned.
I shoot 100 to 150 rounds every week through this pistol. It functions flawlessly every week. It fires every type of ammo that I feed it. The only time it fails to fire is with a bad round of ammo. It feeds, fires and ej...ects everything I feed it. I wish my buckmark would do as well. I have a burris reflex sight on the included rail and it makes a great addition to the pistol. It is just as accurate as my buckmark or ruger. It is much easier to breakdown and clean. This gun just runs and runs. more

    Great Pistol
I've had mine three weeks and have six different brands of ammo through it. The only FTF was with Winchester bulk - good strike - probably the ammo.Vey accurate - feels good in my hand - good trigger - easy to clean. Ver...y well made Pistol.I did put a small drop of blue locktite on the take down screw when I first oiled it before firing and have had no issues with the screw coming loose.. more

    Great pistol
I bought this gun today. I fired 150 rounds of mini mags, took the gun apart, cleaned, reassembled and fired 150 more rounds. No loose screw, no problems at all. The pistol shoots and cycles great , is very accurate righ...t out of the box. I think the trigger is better than the Browning and Ruger. Disassembly and re assembly is easy and fast. I couldn't decide between this and the Browning, I chose this because of cleaning ease and I'm glad I did. I really like the S&W Victory, it's a wonderful .22 pistol more

Volquartsen barrel received and installed. I put small amount of blue Loctite on the screws and they have not worked loose, but are easily removed if needed. Pistol works great!

    Very accurate, has faults
This pistol has great sights and a very nice trigger and it is highly accurate. There are 2 points I want to make about it though:1) Be sure to take the take-down wrench with you when you shoot this gun because the take-...down screw will loosen up when you fire it.2) This pistol hasn't handled all the ammunition I've tried in it flawlessly.I still like it very much though, and I do recommend it. more

    Lots of Fun
I bought this gun for plinking and hunting rabbits. The first time my son and I took it out we added a red dot scope. After a clip or two we were zeroed in and then the fun really began. Wondeful competition between me a...nd my son. The gun shot amazingly and is one of the most accurate and easy pistols to fire that I've ever experienced. I know my wife will also enjoy shooting this pistol. Very good gun and a lot of fun for the money. I was shooting some very old ammo, that I wanted to get rid of, and only a couple of misfires. Probably not the fault of the gun. more

    Screws come loose
Yes, the screws that hold the barrel and top rail worked loose in 100 rounds. I intend to blue Loctite them. I don't think the removal of the barrel is needed to perform a righteous cleaning job. I ordered the Volquartse...n carbon fiber barrel and once I get that I will secure all the screws as stated. more

    First time shooting
Purchased on Thursday 11th and today 13th was my first opportunity to get out to the range. I also purchased the Center Point 32 mm Reflex Sight. Mounted it prior to going to the range. Shooting Federal Premium HV Match ...40 Grain. Shot the first 10 rounds without any issues. Starting the second magazine the first round loaded then on fire cycle the second round failed to load. I tried a trick a friend showed me and place a drop of gun oil on the tip of the first round in the magazine. I then continued to cycle 140 rounds through without any problems. Zeroed the Red Dot all is good. Great groupings at 25 yards. When getting ready to clean the gun I discovered the screw holding the barrel upper assembly was about 1/2 turn loose and the rail was also loose. Suggestion make sure all screws are tight prior shooting. I'm going to the range again tomorrow and will let you know if this happens again. more

    Very Nice
I bought this for myself for Christmas and got a screaming good deal on Black Friday. I took it to the range the first time today. My son and I set the targets up at 25 feet, sighted it in and continued shooting from the...re. By the end we were just shooting through a big hole where the 1" bullseye used to be. It has a very smooth trigger, had only 1 failure to eject out of about 100 rounds, and otherwise worked very well. I was surprised the sights had click adjustments. I'm not used to that on open pistol sights. I'm very pleased with this pistol. more

    Great and fun pistol

On a side note, another man was at the range beside me that just bought the Victory from the same store on the same week and he had zero issues.

It cycles everything (from match to high velocity type). The trigger is nice. It breaks at slightly below 4lbs with a small, but predictable creep. It's also very accurate. From a rest it can do 0.75" or better at 25Y. T...he only minor issue was that the barrel lug came loose. Some blue loctite resolve that issue. The scope rail also can come loose (some purple loctite solved it). I'm overall very happy with this pistol. more
