In 2003 the gunsmiths and engineers at Smith & Wesson wanted to deliver maximum power for serious handgun hunters. The power they sought required an entirely new frame, the massive "X-Frame™," and was the basis for the new Model S&W500™, the most powerful production revolver in the world.  This ushered in the era of the "big gun" and was only the beginning.   For ultimate power and velocity there's nothing even close to an X-Frame model handgun. Fixed Compensator • Most powerful production revolver in the world today • Massive .500 S&W Magnum® cartridge with 2600 ft/lb. muzzle energy • A hunting handgun for any game • Recoil tamed with effective muzzle compensator • Internal lock

Smith & Wesson 500 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The S&W 500 has a very smooth trigger pull and its hogue grip gives a decent amount of control.  The trigger, hammer and cylinder release lever are all well placed and easily reached by most hands.  The kick from this gun is immense, so be sure to physically train your arms so you can maintain control.

Smith & Wesson 500 Fit & Finish

The S&W500 is offered in a brushed stainless steel finish.  The joint between the receiver plate on the right side of the gun and the frame can often be easily seen, however the metal components themselves are incredibly hard and don’t easily scratch.

Concealability
Even in its 4-inch setup, the S&W 500 is nearly impossible to conceal.  This gun is most easily carried in a more open-carry setting and kept in the holster until that grizzly bear is running at you full-tilt.
