    A very accurate firearm for a 9MM
I purchased a Range Officer in 9MM model PI9129L after I had injured my wrist. (Any excuse to buy a new gun, right?) The pistol was tight in barrel fit to slide at chamber lock up and at the barrel bushing. Slide to fram...e fit is excellent also.I prefer 1911s that don't have recoil spring guides or front slide serrations, just a personal thing. I purchased the pistol purely for target shooting. I reload and shoot cast SWCs which it feeds flawlessly right out of the box, no modifications. The Springfield pistol magazine is different from the colt 9MM magazine in that it shortens the magazine at the front, this I feel improves cartridge feeding. I was awed by the accuracy at 25 yards. I would put this pistol on a par with a SIG P210 or a S&W 952. Impressive! more

I purchased the Marine Operators model of the 1911-A1, First time at the range I was shooting a VERY satisfying group! The trigger pull is great and I really love the sights. Even my grand daughter was shooting some very... good groups. Far superior weapon to the pistols we shoot when I was in the Corps. more

    Springfield Armory Failure
I was very excited to get this gun and very disappointed because the gun did not work. It would fire once, cycle, eject and load but would not fire again. I would drop the mag, clear the gun, reload and it would fire onc...e. Randomly, it would slam fire. I called SA and they sent a shipping label and after a month they returned the gun. I went to the range and experienced the same problems. The gun is back at SA now for the second time. I used the magazines provided with the gun, tried Wilson Combat mags and used factory ammo. I had other people fire the gun with the same results. I am very disappointed. It was bad enough to have this out of the box, but to have the gun continue to fail after sending it to Springfield Armory is crazy. I had always heard good things about their products. I have asked them for a refund and will find a different manufacturer for my 1911 purchase. more

Best out of the box weapon system ever
Purchased and went to the range to open the box and check out the new weapon. Quick review of the weapon and loaded the magazine. No adjustments,, no worries,, and the first round-on the mark. Second round... right on ta...rget and the next four,,, covered the rounds with a silver dollar ( for those who remember them) . A little pricey but worth every $ more

    Fantastic 1911
After trying out several 1911s I decided on the the Springfield Armory Range Officer full size .45. I am so pleased that I did. The weight of it is so balanced and it's a beautiful piece of machinery. It is spot on right... out of the box. The Springfield Armory bonus of extra magazines and other goodies is also fantastic. Highly recommend this! more

    Smooth and accurate
I have Glock's, Smith & Wesson's and a few other pistols. Nothing I shoot is as smooth as the Springfield 1911 Field Officer! This gun is amazing. It looks stunning and continues from there. The grip feels great, the... sights are some of the best I've shot and the trigger is perfect. I'm incredibly accurate with it. My family has shot it and now they are looking for one. I don't even want to shoot my Glock now. more

    A well put together 1911...
I have put about 500 rounds through the Springfield RO Operator I purchased at Cabelas and this gun is a great deal. The fit and finish are excellent, the trigger was just under 5lb with a clean break, the slide to frame... and barrel to bushing are tight with no free play, and the sights are excellent. It has also run all the commercial and hand loads I have put in it with good groups... This gun is ready for IDPA right out of the box. more

    Nice Handgun
The weapon came in a very nice case with three magazines and other accessories that are great to have for this pistol. The pistol itself is ready to take to the range with no requirements to modify the components to make... it ready for action. I did change out the wood grips for some double checkered VZ grips which make the grips more aggressive. The 9MM shoots true and the action is very smooth. This is my first 1911 in 9MM and it is very user friendly and fun to shoot. This was the first purchase with Cabela's using their internet ordering process and I found it to be very efficient and I would do it again. more

Purchased the “Loaded” 1911 version just a couple of weeks ago and I have put about 100 rounds through it. SUPERB firearm! I actually was torn between the Kimber Warrior SOC and this one which have pretty much the sa...me features (rail, match grade barrel). I put them side by side and without a doubt, I think the Springfield is better – not to mention it was about $500 less. The Kimber had a paint job on it that honestly looked cheap, It had sort of a semi gloss finish which does not show in the photo. Compared both triggers and the only thing the Kimber had going for it was the Crimson Trace however I just happened to have one of these not being used. So far, highly accurate, easy to control and zero failures. more

Springfield Armory 1911 5" Parkerized Pistol
I enjoy the simplicity of this gun. I find it fascinating and intriguing how close it can be related to the original 1911. There are no rails on this gun allowing for original simplistic ideas. My gun came in a parkerize...d blue finish. Shoots 45 ACP. I love the accuracy. more

    very well made
The Springfield Range Officer has so far proven itself to bemuch more accurate than its new owner. The slide lockup issomething that would be expected on a custom race gun. It is a pleasure to own and shoot.

    Great 9mm 1911 !
The SA 9mm 1911 Range officer is one heck of a great handgun at a bargain price. Once handled, it's easy to see the quality in the exact fit of the important stuff like the slide to frame, bushing to barrel etc. Yes it's... a basic parkerized finish, yet all fit and finish is done very well. Performance wise, mine shoots ANY bullet shape and load I can drum up without a hitch. Best of all, it shoots them into tiny little groups with minimized recoil.Hate to admit it but this darn thing will shoot toe to toe with my high end S&W 1911pro 9mm all day long. more

This is my first 1911. The pistol is very smooth and shoots amazing. Only shot 50 rounds of some cheap ammo through it so far but it didn't miss a beat. For the money I couldn't be happier.

    Springfield EMP (9MM)
I first seen this gun at a gun show and was amazed at how well it felt in my hand. I have medium size hands, but everyone who has ever shot this gun has commented on how well it feels in their hands. When I first purchase...d the gun, I had a couple of FTE's and was second-guessing my decision to pay so much for a gun that I was intending to carry everyday. I sent the gun back to Springfield, and what I received was the PERFECT carry gun! . I have had this gun since 2010 and I have at least a thousand rounds through it, with not one failure. It has very little recoil for an alloy pistol. It's very accurate... In fact, this gun has been the favorite of my friends whenever we go to the range. The gun comes with 3 mags, a plastic holster/mag holder, a breakdown tool and a plastic carry box. Breaking down the gun can be a little bit of a hassle for those not familiar with 1911's. The first few times, I used the tool to remove the inner mainspring. Now, it seems the mainspring comes out with more ease? I don't use the tool any longer.I threw the plastic holster/mag combo back in the box and purchased 2 UBG Bonneville Holsters (IWB,OWB). I never leave the house without it. If you can afford this gun, buy it! You won't be sorry. more

I have a Springfield Armory 1911 RO that I think is the best 1911 .45 ACP pistol on the market. I enjoy shooting it. It is a tack driver. Never had a failure in the 1911. I do recommend getting a front site that is not b...lack, so it is easy to see. more

    Range Officer
I am extremely pleased with the Range Officer. This is the first 1911 in my collection and it has quickly become a favorite. I utilized the 1911 as a side arm during my enlistment and this takes the 1911 platform to a ne...w level and leaves change in your pocket to enhance what you desire. Came with a solid case, holster and belt mounted dual magazine holster as well as a few other necessities. Smooth Operation and positive weight allowed 200 plus round trip to the range. Looks as good as it performs too. more

    1911 Mil-Spec
I bought this gun over a year ago and have put around 300 rounds through it. It's a nice gun overall and I use it as my carry gun. I rated it at a 3 because of the sights. Mine seem to be off slightly. It has a lot of tr...igger creep too. Once funds become available I plan on getting a trigger job and some better sights cut into it. As it is out of the box, I wouldn't count on it for anything other than close combat self defense. I also recommend breaking this item down as soon as you get it home and oiling all the moving parts. more

    Hard to beat
Have the EMP40 G10 grip model. Originally wanted the 9mm, after shooting 9's for a while I actually came to like the 40S&W better. Seeing as this was going to be a CC pistol I wanted more power than a 9 but less weig...ht than a 45 when loaded. This was the compromise. At first I didn't like it a lot, thought I made a bad choice. I kept going back to the range every week, shooting about 50 rounds each time. It has now grown on me and I will say this: I always thought it to be one of the most comfortable guns to hold (my ands are not big, medium) and I am impressed by the accuracy. Chained holes freehand is a great day for me. It's not light, but it also does not transfer wicked recoil which many claim the 40S&W does. Have had zero troubles with this in 2 years. more

    Favorite shooter
I have an EMP 9mm and I love it. The quality of the gun is evident and it is an amazingly accurate despite such a small size. I have a Glock, a Ruger and a Sig Sauer, but thus is my favorite gun. I have fired approximate...ly 500 rounds of various brand cheaper ammo through this gun without any jams or problems. Although a bit pricy, it is worth it because this is the kind of quality gun you will want to keep forever. I considered a Kimber but I believe quality is similar and the Springfield isn't ammo finicky. more

Springfield Armory Range Officer full size 45ACP
All I can say is THANK YOU. Thanks to my son's Godfather for suggesting the 1911 style Springfield Armory. Thanks to Tim at Lacey Cabelas for showing me this weapon and comparing to other models and makes. Heavy 45 that ...absolutely helps in keeping the 45 ACP loads from hurting your hand. This handgun is a pleasure shooting and even my wife likes shooting it, due to the guns weight absorbing much of the nastiness of 45 loads. Put 200 rounds through it on day one and wanted to keep shooting but had another appointment to get to. GREAT GUN!!! more

    Beautiful Gun with Great Performance
I had been looking for a Springfield 1911 MIL-SPEC for month's with no luck at all and then I went into Cabela's in Hoffman Estates, IL and had them order me one which took a few weeks but when it had finally arrived the...y called me and I went into check it out (already knowing I was going to buy it). Purchased the gun along with some Kimber magazines. Since my purchase I have put 500 rounds through the gun without a single issue or malfunction using Remington & Winchester Ammunition. This gun is a Tack Driver very accurate and great to shoot. I have received multiple compliments on this gun about how beautiful it is (Parkerized finish Black Package). People have asked to shoot it but I have told them to go to Cabela's and purchase their own. Best Investment that I have made yet, I have no need to purchase another handgun. more

    Great all around
Owned for over a year, and only one stovepipe but i think it was the ammo. I carry this everyday, its got a little weight to it, but with my Blackhawk belt and Galco holster there is no problem. I shoot PMC for my target... rounds and never a misfire or stovepipe, and i shoot Critical Defense for my carry rounds. Great buy for the money! more

    Springfield 1911A1 GI
I have spent over 1000 rounds through this firearm and only had 3 malfunctions (2 casings slipping back into magazine which may have been a mag problem and 1 was user error feeding malfunction). This is an awsome first g...un for the accuracy, price, and ammo it uses. I customized mine with trijicon night sights, hogue grips, and a full length guide rod. The gun itself is very good as it is for many users and it is built a little loose. If it doesn't rattle a bit it will have a higher chance to jam if it gets dirty. If you need custom or spare parts many of the top gun part manufacturers make em so the chance to find parts is high. After mine "broke in" after 200 bullets the accuracy was pritty good. The stopping power due to its walloping slug is ideal for law enforcement, home defense, or just recreational shooting. The recoil is a little higher than a 9mm handgun but it's a bearly noticable difference. So why not get your hands on a one hundred year old American classic? especially one that will prove to be a reliable sidearm. more

    perfect 1911
I'm a big fan of the 1911 platform, I own three others all quality pieces from makers you would know, all in 45acp. I was in the market for a new 9mm something not striker fired. I had handled other 9mm 1911 style pistol...s, and all the others maintained the full size grip and frame and simply installed a 9mm barrel. I was unaware of the EMP from Springfield until I saw it at a gun show. As soon as I took hold of it it was love at first grip. Springfield had actually reduced the size of the grip and frame, and while I have larger hands, it felt custom made for me. This little beauty shoots and functions as good as it looks, not to mention the substancial weight reduction. Attempting to improve on perfection, I sent it back to Springfield and had them checker the front strap, add an expanded mag well,(which gives pinky purchase) and remove the right side thumb safety, as well as polish up the internals. This is my EDC, carried in a Raven concealment kydex phantom holster. This is the ideal set up, functional, powerful, reliable, beautiful. more

EMP is the BEST Compact 1911 Style Handgun Out!!!
I purchased the EMP in .40 about 6 months ago, at the Fort Worth Cabela's, and I have fallen in love with this little gun every day since. Besides the beautiful fit and finish, it is THE MOST accurate compact .40 I own. ...I have various compact carry handguns in .40, 9mm and .380, but the EMP always outclasses each one at the range. It is amazing how accurate this little firearm can be. I have had several tight groups at up to 25 yards with this little gun. more

9mm EMP Lives up to reputation
There are not many of these on the market. The Phoenix area store had one. It was as nice a weapon as I have ever used. They worked with me and a local dealer in my home state to do the transfers to get it to me. It shoo...ts beautifully. Same size as my nearly 100 year old Colt Pocket 32, but safer, and perfectly reliable out of the box. Kicks harder than a Hi-Power or a Luger...but just as accurate for me at 25 yards. ONLY down side is that there is no Crimson Trace grip for the EMP (yet)...so make due with the Tritium enhanced sights. This is an outstanding choice for concealed carry. Pricey but I was not disappointed. more

    Great pistol
This is the first pistol I have ever purchased and as far as I can tell it is a great pistol. I purchased the GI model and it is extremely fun to shot and is fairly accurate. You have to have a firm and tight grip or the... bullet will not go where you want it to. Once you get the hang of shooting it, the pistol is fairly accurate. I'm not the best shot but was hitting 3 inch groups at 20 yards. The only complaints I have is that the parkerized barrel is starting to show wear only after 200 rounds and the fact that .45 acp ammo is around $20 a box. more
