Springfield Armory XD Description

The Springfield Armory® XD® Semi-Auto Pistol with High Capacity Magazine is an ergonomically designed full-sized semi-auto pistol meant for law enforcement, home defense, and field carry. The ergonomic design of Springfield XD pistols optimizes pointability and shooting control to get you on target quickly and stay on target during rapid fire. XDs have durable polymer frames and a Melonite®-coated forged steel slides. Checkering on the frame provides a solid grip to keep the pistol in place when shooting. A grip safety (similar to a 1911) blocks the weapon from firing unless the safety is depressed, which happens naturally when the pistol is held correctly, but automatically goes "on safe" when the shooter's hold is released. An articulated safety lever built into the trigger blade backs up the grip safety. A loaded chamber indicator and striker status indicator give both visual and tactile indication whether the gun is loaded and ready to fire in any lighting condition. 3-dot, steel sights on this semi-automatic pistol provide rapid sight acquisition, and are dovetailed into the slide for easy replacement with after market night sights; and, an integral rail on the frame allows the attachment of aftermarket tactical sights and lights. An ambidextrous magazine release accommodates either hand. The Springfield Armory XD Semi-Auto Pistol fieldstrips easily without tools for cleaning and maintenance. Comes with 2 high-capacity magazines.

As you know this pistol has had many years of reviews. So I will keep it simple. You get a modern combat pistol for a great price. You get an accessory package for free. So you get a belt holster, 2 mag carrier, & a mag ...loader. Good quality, and saves you $ off the bat. The chamber indicator is great. The striker indicator is also awesome. Yes we are not suppose to rely on them, but they are great to have. My opinion: levels better than a Glock. Lets me shoot a bit faster. So when you use your Glock you will notice it. The Glock's muzzle will be slightly higher after you draw. After a few hundred rounds (pre-2012 mind you) my finger would get a little sore from the trigger safety. more

  • This thing is sweet. I was originally going to buy a Glock 19 because the first gun I ever shot was a Glock 23 and I was quite comfortable shooting one and like the size of it, I just wanted to get a 9mm. However, my bos...s offered me a deal on this XD that I couldn't refuse, and boy I'm glad he did. This XD was already heavily used with 1000+ rounds through it 500 or so were +P and I know I've put another 1000+ through it about 200 of them +P loads The only failure I had was a few Failure to Ejects and that was when using the aftermarket spring my boss had in it, since then I switched to the factory spring and it shoots like a dream. This thing is a natural pointer, meaning if your gripping it the way your supposed to, when you lift it and point it at center mass of a silhouette target 15 feet down range without taking the time to line up your sights, all 15 rounds land center of mass. That's something I couldn't do with my Brother-in-Laws G23. Double taps are easy to get the hang of too with this gun (I attribute that to the natural point). I also love the takedown lever, much better than the other offerings out there from "the big three". For me at least its much easier and less cumbersome. It's not all good though. As with all polymer pistols, I struggled with the grip feeling slippery during extended range periods, or if my hands were dry, or if they had lotion on them(my hands get ashy), or if my palms were sweaty, so I slapped on some sandpaper like grips and everything was fixed. Another thing would be the trigger, which isn't even bad as mine has been broken in quite a bit but it does have some take up in it. Meaning you can pull the trigger a good 1/4 inch before reaching the trigger break. Which isn't entirely a bad thing since I use it as a set, before steadying my aim and finishing the pull. Overall, I would recommend this gun to anyone in the market for a polymer bottom feeder, because really "the big three" S&W, Glock, and Springfield all have great offerings and it comes down to preference, but I wouldn't discount the XD in anyway compared to those others as they too have some "personality traits" you might just not like. + Pros: great natural point, easy to field strip and clean, easy t more

Springfield Armory XD has a 2 dot sight, a fiber optic on the front, double-action single-action, hammer safety also a decocker. It is a beautiful gun, it has a sven rounds in the magazine, mag release is on both sides, ...the safety is on both sides as well. It's got a little rail. more

it is a heavy things weighs 26 ounces with a small empty magazine. The trigger was big plus it's made of metal not made of plastic and it was ultra smooth. This comes with a standard trigger safety but it also incorporat...e trigger safety into the back of the grip. The slide is really tall, the frame is a little bit wide. It does have some texturing on it overall it's actually pretty smooth. more

  • Gun Review: Springfield XD 9mm (Service Model)
Handling is actually pretty good. Things are where they should be, and there are no finger ridges to mold my hand to fit. The XD’s trigger looks and feels like every Glock-inspired striker gun on the market. The XD’s... metal mags are fantastic. They’re quick to load, feed perfectly every time and drop out of the mag well at the push of a button. The XD mags’ composition makes them thinner than their plastic fantastic Austrian competitor’s cartridge holders, which allows the Croats to build a thinner magazine well. more

  • Springfield Armory XDm Beginner Gun Review
Like the Glock, the XDm has a trigger safety and an internal firing pin safety. There’s also a backstrap safety which means you have to be gripping the gun in order for it to fire. It also has a loaded chamber indicato...r on the top of the gun and an indicator on the back that tells you if it’s cocked and ready. The Glock’s 3 built in safeties were good for a score of 4.5 but with the extra safeties and the indicators, I think the XDm is worthy of the full 5 out of 5 dunce hats. more
