Light weapon, nice overall feel, accurate, low maintenance, great experience. I have some law enforcement friends who tried to bad mouth this weapon but after using one they came away very impressed and compared it to th...e glocks that they carried. more

    Not my first choice but...
This thing is sweet. I was originally going to buy a Glock 19 because the first gun I ever shot was a Glock 23 and I was quite comfortable shooting one and like the size of it, I just wanted to get a 9mm. However, my bos...s offered me a deal on this XD that I couldn't refuse, and boy I'm glad he did. This XD was already heavily used with 1000+ rounds through it 500 or so were +P and I know I've put another 1000+ through it about 200 of them +P loads The only failure I had was a few Failure to Ejects and that was when using the aftermarket spring my boss had in it, since then I switched to the factory spring and it shoots like a dream. more

    Great Gun, Great Price
As you know this pistol has had many years of reviews. So I will keep it simple. You get a modern combat pistol for a great price. You get an accessory package for free. So you get a belt holster, 2 mag carrier, & a ...mag loader. Good quality, and saves you $ off the bat. The chamber indicator is great. The striker indicator is also awesome. Yes we are not suppose to rely on them, but they are great to have. My opinion: levels better than a Glock. Lets me shoot a bit faster. So when you use your Glock you will notice it. The Glock's muzzle will be slightly higher after you draw. After a few hundred rounds (pre-2012 mind you) my finger would get a little sore from the trigger safety. more

    Never Another Springfield
This was my first and will be my only purchase of a Springfield Armory (SA) item. This 9mm has been nothing but trouble. Immediately one of the magazines was defective and had to ship to SA. Then Winchester ammo was hitt...ing target 3 to 4" left of bullseye at 7 yds. Rear sight is not adjustable by owner since it is machine pressed in, and there is nothing in the manual about adjusting the sight. Had to ship firearm to SA and they reduced the distance but not in the bullseye (they sent me their target). Found out on-line that the sight being off and firing to the left is a common problem. The white painted dot on the front sight also vanished sometime during first use. Wrote an e-mail to SA sales about the quality issues a few weeks ago but still have not heard a peep from the Company. Guess I hit a bullseye. more

You will not regret buying this gun
I've had the XD9 Service now for ~ 6 months. I enjoyed shooting it the first time and every time since. I have about 800 rounds downrange so far and no FTF or FTEs. I've run ever kind of ammo through it and it is not pic...ky. With the recent ammo scarcity in 9 mm you don't want a finicky gun. more

    I love this gun!
I have owned this gun for about three years. It is the best gun ever. I have a Sig Sauer P238, which is a good gun. However, I keep the safety off because I keep forgetting to slide the safety switch down when I need to ...shoot. I know it is dangerous to have the safety off when the gun is on my belt, but it is even more dangerous to have the gun locked in a critical situation. more

    Best Handgun I have
I went to a Front Sight defensive hand gun course a year ago. They used the Springfield XD 9mm as their training gun. I decided to get one for myself. I returned to a four-day definsive hand gun course with my own gun. I...t worked great for four days of intensive shooting. I had to rig a misfire. It didn't misfire on its own until the last day. Now I have a target on our Iand and it is the easiest gun for me to hit the target. I recommend this for women who have not been shooting long. I have an XD subcompact for concealed carry. It is harder to rack than the regular four inch barrel, but it is still a good one for me. more

I resisted these guns for a long time, but am glad I have one now. May be ugly, but it goes bang every time and I can hit what I'm aiming at. Having actual steel sights was a pleasant suprise. Also, the guide rod is stee...l, not plastic. Nice balance of low weight and recoil. Great grip angle. more

    Fantastic Weapon!!!
I purchased this weapon not too long ago now and love it. Have done a lot of research and have handled alot of weapons ranging from handguns all the way up. By far the best handgun I've seen and shot!!! The simplicity of... the weapon as well as user friendly. Breaks down and cleans with extreme ease. Only one thing to get use to if you get it in the .45 is the ligth weight frame. Takes a little getting use to with shooting it but after about 50 rounds or so you should get the hang of it. XD BEATS ALL
I decided to wait until now to post my review of the Springfield XD 4 inch 9mm. At this point I estimate approximately 2500 round through my XD. Not one single failure. No FTF, FTE, NOTHING. All that I do is try to clean... my gun after every 200 rounds or so, and wipe down the magazines every couple hundred rounds. This has now become my bedside gun loaded with Winchester PDX1 Bonded 124 GR. JHP's. The only complaint I have about this gun is the method of take down, I wish it was more like Glock's. The first time I went to field strip the gun I put a huge scratch in the slide, my fault of course, but would still like the see a design that would prevent that. All in all, WHEN IN DOUBT GO WITH THE XD! more

I just turned 21 a few days ago and I went right out and bought an XD .40S&W. I had done a lot of research to figure out what gun i wanted to be my first handgun. This gun kept showing up as a good choice. So i went ...to the Glendale Cabela's and checked it out and some others and decided on this one. I made the right choice for me. I love this gun. It shoots great, is very accurate, has a nice ergonomic feel to it, has a very manageable recoil, fits very naturally in my hand. I've only put about 200rds through it but it handle them excellently. Nice accurate pistol
The springfield XD in 9mm is a straight shooter for a 4" barrel. The racking action is a little stiff when the weapon is new but it will loosen up with use. Springfield xd 40
I purchased the xd 40 as a Christmas present (for myself) in 2010. I have over 3,000 rounds through it and not one jam, or any other mishap. This pistol is extremely reliable, and I noticed the better the ammo, the bette...r I shoot. I prefer federal either jhp or 180 grain jacketed target loads. I carry this concealed even though its a pretty good size pistol, and find it just a little big. I am a firm believer in the 40 cal. being the perfect man stopper, so thats my reasoning for this pistol being my primary carry firearm. As far as accuracy is concerned, I am consistently putting double taps downrange at 20 yards, holes touching, on a 5 inch target. At 30 yards, taking my time, all of my rounds are on that 5 inch target. All around excellent purchase, with two mags, outside the waist holster, cleaning brushes, and a two mag holster. I had previously only fired M1911A1's in the Army , 1000's of rounds- so this XD had some pretty big shoes to fill. So far 800 rounds and ZERO jams, even with the cheap russian ammo. Ergonomics are better than my 1911 an...d accuracy is much better. Very easy to clean and with a 13 round mag for 45- that's the only two complaints I had with my 1911's. .45 has virtually no recoil
I used to only shoot 9mm, but I bought the all black XD .45 and was surprised with how easy it was to shoot. The slide is smooth (better than my Taurus pro pt111), and the trigger is great. Love the safety. If your hesit...ant to get a .45 because of recoil, let me tell you Im 5'9" and weight 150 exactly. And this .45 is so easy to shoot. Its a tad big for concealed carry (I carry a Kahr pm9 in my cowboy boot) but for a home gun, this is the only one I would use. Having been voted gun of the year a few times in various magazines, you can go wrong. I also added a cool little light to the bottom of the barrel, so it has a area to do that too which is a nice option if you like lights or laser dots. more

    XD45 design problem
The XD45 and XD45c seems to have a problem with magazine failures. The XD45 upon ejection drags the bottom of the spent cartridge across the top of the loaded magazine. This dragging forces the cartridge in the mag to th...e rear causing cracking on the rear mag wall. This problem is only apparent on the XD45 series. The new XD45m has a design revision on the bottom of the slide forcing the next in line cartridge downward thereby eliminating the problem seen on the XD45 series. more

    excellent
This was one of my first gun purchases ever. I got the 4" .45 acp and I absolutely love EVERYTHING about it. The trigger pull is smooth ( granted they ripped the trigger safety off of glock) I have put around 500 ro...unds through it with only one failure to figure which was probably because of junky ammo. The only thing i complain about is the price of 45 acp because its so much fun to shoot you go through them quickly, which is why I am looking into buying the same exact gun in 9 mm. I think the 4 inch is the perfect size, the gun is still big enough that its a full size gun, but yet compact enough to conceal and still be able to fit your whole hand on the handle. LOVE IT. more

I keep of double barrell in my closet but know that she w...ould never use it if the time called for it. So i got the XD9 and convinced her to go and shoot it with me. She does great with it and the gun is prefect. I hav eput 500 round through it without a single problem. Very accurate at 30 feet. more

    Great gun, great price!
After tons of research on affordable and well constructed hand guns every great review and test led me back to the XD. So I purchased it about 9 months ago, and hunting, hiking, target shooting, and home safety have neve...r been the same! Talk about a reliable and effecient hand gun. Never had a problem with it once. The only other gun that I might purchase would be the XD(M). I would highley recommend this gun to anyone. more

    4" XD-9 Great Gun
Springfield has a winner with the XD. Picked this up to accompany my M&P45c because it's cheaper to shoot 9mm than it is the .45ACP ammo. My wife and I have put about 1200 rounds through it with one failure to fire (...cheap MFS ammo) and one failure to eject (my wife limp wristed). The gun is very easy to shoot and the recoil is easily manageable. It is fairly accurate (but I can shoot tighter with the M&P). I love everything about the XD-9, except that it ain't a .45ACP (maybe my wife will get me one for Christmas.)I would recommend this gun to anyone looking to get started, for a CCW piece, or another to add to your collection. It is versatile, reliable, fun to shoot and easy to clean & maintain.Springfield also throws some goodies in the case (mag carriers, holster & loader) that make it a great "getting started" kit. more

    Excellent!!!
I purchased the XD .45 4" about a year ago and have put through about 2000 rounds. The gun is outstanding. Extreemly accurate at 20 feet (which is what I shoot at), durable and have not had one jam. The gun cleans e...xtreemly easy as their are only 4 or so parts. more

Add one of these to your collection
This has been one of my favorite handguns of all time. Very accurate, well balanced, very simple to break down to clean. I have the XD-40 (.40 S&W), very manageable recoil, feels great in your hand at the target rang...e. Buy it when it goes on sale, you won't be sorry. I may add the XD-9 to my collection in the future (9mm is less expensive ammo to shoot). Kudos goes to Springfield for an excellent handgun design. The XDm is the next step up, with a match-grade barrel and a few other refinements, but it's more expensive. It's likely worth the extra $100 for the higher-grade precision barrel. In fact, I may buy the XDm for my 9mm version. Five stars, get one. more

    XD All the way
In past years I have owned several different brands of semi-autos and liked each and every one of them until I read about the XD. I'd had a Ruger semi-auto for years that was a serviceable weapon, but it had issues with ...which ammunition it liked. It was a fussy weapon to shoot. I decided to get my concealed handgun license and as such needed a weapon I could trust as a full time carry weapon. Enter the XD. I'd tried the Glock, S&W, Taurus and other similar. I decided on the XD after reading 20 different "magazine" reviews and firing the other similar weapons. I am extremely pleased with my XD's. I started out with the XD 9mm but sold it once I decided I wanted to move up to something a bit "heavier" for concealed carry. At present I have a .40 S&W sub-compact (I carry it daily) and 2 .40 S&W Service (one of which I carry daily) and an XD .45 ACP Service that I carried prior to deciding to carry an appendix and a BUG. I have fired anything I could get my hands on for practice, usually the least expensive round I could find, and these babies eat everything I run through them. Literally 1000s of rounds through each of them and not even 1 hick-up. If you are looking for a cost effect, well made, durable and reliable weapon that out-shoots them all right out of the box, I HIGHLY recommend the XD or XDm weapons. You will NOT be disappointed. more

    Second to None!
I bought a xd45 4" as my first hand gun after doing tons of research to make sure i was getting a solid high quality handgun that wouldn't cost me my first born child. I can say I chose right. I Had my xd45 4" ...for about a year and a half and put about 1000 rounds through it, not one miss fire and not one jam! Very accurate and extremely easy to break down and clean! I recently switched out my 4" for the xd45 5" tactical compact, this gun is the best of both worlds, the extra inch on the barrel is even better increasing accuracy and lessens the recoil. You can put in the smaller mag for concealed and the larger mag which extends the handle for target shooting. I'm now looking to buy a 3" sub compact. I've shot several types of hand guns my friends and family has owned but nothing matches up to the quality of this gun. I've been sold on these guns, they are reliable, reasonably priced and very durable. more

    Great Firearm!
Was in the market for a glock style polymere pistol. Did alot of research and shoping around! In the end the one gun that i was impressed with the most was the sprinfeild XD .45 compact. This gun is like two in one, come...s with the 10-1 round magazine for more compact carry, but also comes with the 13-1 round mag for the full size duty style carry.. I love all the safty features , striker status indicator, loaded chamber indicator, grip safty, internal drop saftey. Also love that it has an ambidextrous mag release being that im left handed. I read alot of great reviews on this gun online but it was the moment i held it in my hand that i knew it was the one, just felt so balanced and well built. This gun shoots like a dream. Not alot of recoil for the caliber. Went shopping for a glock but came home with the XD! Great firearm! more
