    Excellent Single Stack
Purchased this gun over the Glock 43, S&W Shield, and the Sig P320 Carry and I couldn't be happier. It all came down to the feel for me. I shot each of these, excluding the Sig, before I purchased and the Spring...field hands down felt the best to me. I come from a background of larger handguns and this is my first single stack. I've put a few hundred rounds of various ammo through it and haven't had any problems. I like it so much i plan to ourchase an XD Mod 2 next. I was concerned about the palm safety but that wasn't an issue after trying it out. Very happy with this gun. more

    Quality Firearm
only reason it is not 5 stars is the lack of quality holsters for the XDS. Had to go online to purchase holster.

Could a girl want anything more?
The answer is NO! I love this gun. I'm 5'3, 140 lbs. and like to carry a gun. This 9mm is an excellent home defense and carry defense gun. A few side notes- it's not the smallest gun out there. The micro p...istols or whatever they're called gave me serious trust issues about reliability and kick. This gun fits in my small hand very well. The grip is very textured and makes for a very secure feel. My husband (6'3, 250 lbs) also loves to shoot it, almost more than his standard size S&W 9mm. I will say... it kicks. If I shoot it more than 15 times it will start to smart a bit. However, it's a GUN and SHOOTS AMMUNITION... so if you can't handle the kick get a sword or something. The sights are great, and the short and longer interchangeable single stack mags are great. I will say it is a challenge to get a full mag loaded, but in my opinion it should be. I would recommend this gun to any man or woman looking for a pistol. Finally, the safety features on this gun are what sold me. There's a trigger safety and a grip safety- awesome for carrying in a purse. There will never be an accidental trigger fire. Anyway... long review, but seriously. Consider this gun! more

Love my XDs 9, great accuracy for a Carry gun
I've had my XDs for about 2 months now, absolutely love it! Meets all my concerns and demands in a carry gun! Love the palm safety! I feel much safer carrying this gun while I don't have to worry about clicking... a safety button in a extreme or fast situation! Accuracy was shocking as you'll see, the group to the right are my factory 3 dot, the tight group to the left is with my new CT green laser I put on 1 hour before going to range, the laser has no adjustments, this was straight out of box! This is at 50ft ! more

My everyday carry for over a year now.
Purchased for conceal carry to replace my Taurus PT709, (which I liked btw). This XDS has everything I require; trigger and grip safeties, great sights, well made, reliable. Have put over 1000 rounds through it flawlessl...y. My only slight complaint is that the recoil is slightly stronger than other handguns I've tried. But overall I'm ecstatic with my purchase. Will keep and carry this for a long time to come. more

Best CCW on the market period.
I patiently awaited the availability of this firearm. Once it was released I again found myself awaiting availability bc they were gone as fast as they arrived. I found myself setting benchmarks like "I will wait un...til my wife gets her CC license" to try and justify the waiting period for the Springfield XDs to arrive. 3 months passed, I finally found an available item. It was a Wednesday, mostly sunny with a slight breeze from the south, filling our environment with heat and a touch above acceptable humidity. The smell of fresh cut grass filled my sinus with allergines and I needed a reason to see past this. Enter the 9mm XDs i patiently awaited.. I purchased it. My first time at the range, right before I fired it for the first time I asked myself "Was it worth the wait". 50 rounds and no drama pass and the answer was clear... It was totally worth the wait. Today a buddy wanted to trade me his M&P Sheild... a fine weapon in its own right.. but I did not know whether to feel insulted or to LOL! The only other comparable CCW I have in my own collection is a HK P30SK. However even against fine German engineering our friends in croatia win this hands down. If you are looking for the correct CCW for yourself or spouse, the XDs 9mm is the best option on the market right now. Bigger hands? No problem the deluxe kit comes with an extended mag and will fit your hand comfortably. Cleaning is a breeze and each part is as precious as the reason you will persoanlly decide on this product. I just bought a new car, I think my birthday present to my new car will be another XDs 9mm, you know, so it can defend itself! Happy Birthday... VW Touareg and God Bless America. If Springfield made an automobile I will still go with German on the car, but as far as CCW go, the Springfield Xds is a must have. more

    extreme accuracy
I went to a range and rented the pps, shield 9, and the xds before deciding to buy a ccw... boy am i glad i did. i love the way this gun shoots. it is much more accurate than the other 2 guns... xds had no F2F's but... the other 2 had a few with the same ammo. so no f2f, better accuracy, automatic dual safety, loaded indicator, fiber sites, and a nicer trigger pull, and light recoil made me decide to get this gun... I love the way it shoots... more

    remarkable carry weapon!
Got the 9 rather than a .40, due to some arthritis weakening my wife's (a former cop) hands. The slim, single-stack profile with the 7 round mag makes this a very good carry weapon, with better than expected accurac...y. Recoil is quite manageable, and target acquisition is good. The 3.3" barrel means this is not a target weapon, but is more accurate than I expected. Now, I am not an accomplished marksman, just an ordinary schmoe. With the standard 7-round magazine, I found the pistol to be very sensitive to variations in trigger-finger position. Once dialed in, I was shooting about 5.5" groupings at 25 feet. With the larger-capacity mag w/ grip insert loaded, my grouping shrank to about 4". (For comparison's sake, using another weapon with a 3.9" barrel and fuller grip I shot 2.5" groupings at the same distance using the same loads.) The trigger up-take was smooth, and the only failure was when a bad shell fired but went egg-shaped in the chamber, hanging up there. It required some imaginative maneuvers to remove the poor quality reload casing. Using inexpensive factory range loads (115 gr.) there was nary a stutter. I have not yet fired any 147 gr. "home defense" hollow-point loads yet, but I don't expect any problems. This is really a good weapon, which didn't get a "5" from me only because of the slight control issues using the short mag. I imagine it still does better in that respect than any sub-compact I might compare it with. more

    Springfield XDS
Purchased from Academy after reading reviews. Second time at the range, a brass casing failed releasing pressure into the grip. It stung my hand and cracked the polymer frame. See photo. The magazine remained in the grip... but was damaged internally. Academy handled sending it to Springfield for repairs. I called Springfield and told them I was shooting reloads (which could have voided the warranty). They replaced the broken frame and magazine. I was charged only a very modest price for the frame. Labor was covered by warranty. It performs well now. The replacement frame has a different serial number from the slide and barrel. more

    Love my XDS 9mm
I purchased my XDS 9mm the last 06/17/2016 and the next coming day I took it out to the range and fired about 100 rounds. In my experience, it is an outstanding handgun, feel good in the hand, very, very smooth to fire, ...no fail to fire or eject (I tried 2 different ammo brand, Remington and Monarch), very easy to handle with a mild recoil, very easy to clean and conceal too. So far, I’m very satisfied. It is my second handgun (I own an FNH 9mm full size) and now I’m 100% sure that I preferred this Springfield over my FN. I highly recommend this gun for anyone, male or female.

If Springfield made an automobile I will still go with German on the car, but as far as CCW go, the Springfield Xds is a must have. more

    Great compact
Good size, good manners, easy to use and lightweight. I love this gun, it eats everything you feed it. Currently looking at getting it's bigger brother as a full size counterpart.

    extreme accuracy
I went to a range and rented the pps, shield 9, and the xds before deciding to buy a ccw... boy am i glad i did. i love the way this gun shoots. it is much more accurate than the other 2 guns... xds had no F2F's but... the other 2 had a few with the same ammo. so no f2f, better accuracy, automatic dual safety, loaded indicator, fiber sites, and a nicer trigger pull, and light recoil made me decide to get this gun... I love the way it shoots... more

    Nice little gun
I bought this thing to carry. I just always grabbed my little S&W Bodyguard .380 instead. Nice shooting gun. Very comfortable to carry all the time when I did.

    Perfect CCW gun.
I've had this gun for about 9 months and is my daily carry pistol. Carefully compared it to S&W Shield and Glock 43 and determined that this was by far the best gun for the money. Have shot about 1000 rounds thr...ough it without a problem.

I highly recommend this gun for anyone, male or female. more

I purchased this for my wife for every day carry. It is very light, and perfectly fits her very small hands. My wife loves that the pistol is very slim, and with her Alien Gear holster, it doesn't print against anyt...hing she wears. more

    Unequaled Value For The Price!
The XDS "essentials" package is attractively priced vs. the standard XDS package, yet the only thing missing is the carry gear. The XDS is a great gun and is equal to or better in quality than competitor small ...frame 9mms on the market. Great fit and finish, well balanced, feels good in the hand, reliable and comfortable to shoot. Great gun for the money. more

    Solid built
Bought it as a conceal carry. Good concealment but it is a bit on the heavy side but that was expected from the beginning. Fiber optics are bright. Good safety features and the price was just right.

    Quality Firearm
only reason it is not 5 stars is the lack of quality holsters for the XDS. Had to go online to purchase holster.

    remarkable carry weapon!

The replacement frame has a different serial number from the slide and barrel. more

    Poor Quality
Purchased last week of December 2015. Took it to the range and the slide repeatedly failed to close. Also had 9 out of 200 rounds that failed to fire. Sent it back to have it repaired. The slide now closes but continue t...o have light hits that result in failure to fire. Sent it back a second time. Still waiting to get a gun that works. Obviously not satisfied. more

Awesome pistol in a small package!
I purchased the xds 3.3 9mm almost 1yr to date and I love it! I have put close to 1200rds through it ranging from wwb to premium +p ammo including 2 mags of wolf steel case to try to make it fail. I did not clean it unti...l I reached 300rds. I have had zero malfunctions during that period. This is my edc for now on with Barnes 115 tac-xpd in the pipe! I stopped carrying my nano ruger sr9c and my cz p07! After the 300rd mark I installed a Powdered River Precision spring kit w/sear. It only takes about 30-40min to do. The best investment for this weapon I could have purchased! It lowered and smoothed out the trigger to a clean and crisp 5#! Went to range afterwards and this pistol was shooting clover leafs at 15yds! An amazing feat for such a small barrel I must say! To date zero malfunctions. What an awesome pistol! I appendix carry for this pistol in a clinger stingray holster. I forget that I'm carrying sometimes. The sights are nice and sturdy not that plastic crap like on my CZ. The fiber optics fs lets you acquire your sights fast and trouble free in low light and sunlight. The stock trigger was not bad but I wanted something smoother and a little lighter for the sole fact of fast and accurate shot placement. The finish on it is very well done! Wow! No wear marks to see on mine. I train daily with draws (with a properly cleared firearm of coarse) and at least twice a week live fire at the range. The pistol is a little heavier than most in its category but that little extra helps with taming the recoil of the fierce 9mm! Lol! Overall an awesome weapon! I love it and trust it with my life! Y'all should try it out and see what ya think! Palmetto as always is a joy to deal with! Great ccw
Xds is a great weapon. I have several other springfields and the xds is in line with quality handling finish...I've probably run about 400 rounds so far with no issues. Carry ammo is gold dot 124gr and it feeds them ...with no issues. Haven't tried any other hollow points but I'm sure it will feed any reputable brand. I have never had any of my springfields sensitive to certain types. I have medium size hands shoot well withe the flush mag and the extended 8 gives an excellent grip. Carry it in a IWB holster and it's extremely comfortable. It is heavier than other pistols in its category but not enough to notice in a good holster. I do think its a little heavy for pocket carry to be comfortable but that's just me. Trigger is a little heavy at first but smoothed out with dry firing. Use snap caps to save wear on the striker retainer pin. If you're on this fence grab it before year end to get the two free mags and mag holder. My came 8 days after submitting rebate. more

Springfield Armory XDS Critic Reviews

Positive: 4 Mixed: 0 Negative: 1
  • Springfield Armory XDS 9mm Pistol Review
The Springfield XDS 3.3-inch barrel model is the most popular, for obvious reasons. It stands 6.3 inches long, 4.4 inches tall and 0.9 inches wide, weighing in at 23 ounces with an empty magazine. It chambers 9mm, .40 a...nd .45 ACP. The .45 ACP model is actually 1.5 ounces lighter, oddly enough. Capacity is 7+1, 6+1 or 5+1 - depending on chambering - with a flush-fit magazine, though you can add one round to each with an extended magazine. more
