The Sterling submachine gun is a British submachine gun (SMG). It was tested by the British Army in 1944–1945, but did not start to replace the Sten until 1953. A successful and reliable design, it remained standard issue in the British Army until 1994, when it began to be replaced by the L85A1, a bullpup assault rifle.

Sterling L2A3 Features

The Sterling L2A3 is a fully-automatic Cold War era submachine gun that fires from the open bolt on a direct-blowback action.  Essentially, the bolt is held back by the trigger group until the trigger is pulled, allowing it to ride forward to feed a round from the magazine into the chamber where the bolt’s fixed firing pin slams into the primer setting the round off.  The recoil pushes the bolt back where it keeps cycling until the shooter releases the trigger or the magazine runs empty.  This Stormtrooper blaster has adjustable sights and a 7.7 inch barrel.

Sterling L2A3 Capacity

The Sterling L2A3 is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum (9mm Luger, NATO) and feeds from a double-stack, single-feed magazine.  The original magazines had a capacity of 34 rounds though the gun was quickly adapted in order to also accept surplus STEN and Lanchester magazines allowing for 32 and 50 round capacities.

Measuring 18.9 inches with its stock folded and 27 inches extended and with an unloaded weight of 6 pounds, the BlasTech E-11 Blaster Rifle offers acceptable firepower while balancing weight and recoil mitigation.  This makes it a great option to reduce fatigue when you’re standing in formation waiting for the emperor’s shuttle to land in the docking bay and it’s also small enough to not impede your movement when you’re fighting ninja teddy bears outside of your base on the Forest Moon.

Sterling L2A3 Mobility

Mobility

Sterling L2A3 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
The Sterling has a very similar control layout to the Sten submachine gun from WWII but has far better ergonomics.  With the war over, the Brits still needed SMGs but they had enough time and resources to design one that was actually comfortable.  The magazine still sits on the left side of the gun, but the pistol grip is much more comfortable and the folding stock isn’t liable to slice your cheek open.  The L2A3 has a heat guard around the barrel that offers a good support grip, though it can still get very hot under heavy use.

Sterling L2A3 Fit & Finish

The Sterling L2A3 has a tube receiver made of hardened steel pipe and a stamped folding buttstock.  The grips are made of cold-war era polymer.  Essentially, the L2A3 is the result of dumping millions of British Pounds into refining the Sten gun until it’s not a hot pile of garbage because the MP5 hasn’t been invented yet.  As far as second-generation submachine guns go, the Sterling is one of the best.
