How would you like to rate Taurus PT709 1709039?
The 709 Slim was an innovative design when it was released. It is slim and comfortable to carry, and the second-strike capability is a neat feature that allows for easy dry-firing. My extractor gave out after approximately 500 rounds, but Taurus did fix it under warranty. The 709 can be a decent buy at the right price, but there are significantly better options available (Sig P365, S&W Shield, Glock 43, Walther PPS). If you are interested in a Taurus, the current G2 series offer all of the benefits with improved reliability at a great price. ...more
Certainly didn't need another pistol for concealed carry but after handling the 709 Slim I went ahead with purchase. For the price it seemed nice enough. It is no doubt the slimmest pistol I own and made me realize how nice it is to carry something smaller but still have 9mm power. Sure you give up some rounds vs. a double stack but oh well. This Slim just feels good in my hand and not too small. What is really shocking to me is that I can shoot this thing with great accuracy. I dare say I might be more accurate with it than some of my other larger pistols. Typically that's not the case with small handguns. But for some reason I'm great with the Slim. Easy break down for this gun a quick cleaning after the range every time. So far just over 1000 rounds and absolutely no problems or malfunctions. Yes I am impressed. ...more
So I ended up buying one of these because the prices have gone down so far... seemed too good to pass up. I've had it to the range 3 times now and put 600 rounds of FMJ's down the pipe. NO ISSUES. What really shocks me about this Slim is how well I shoot it. I mean, I'm more accurate with it than a few of my full size guns. And much more accurate with it than any of my other compact carry guns. I don't know why but I can put them in the bulls eye no problem with this 709. Hits exactly where I aim. Considering my pinky hangs off the bottom of the grip I figured accuracy with this would be poor but I was quite wrong. It does have a bit of take up but a clean crisp break, very easy to stage the trigger. Multi strike capability which I love for a carry gun and came with two 7 round magazines. I'm very happy with my purchase. And of course it is 'slim' and that's nice. It tucks away nicely IWB. I've only run 21 HP's through it so far but no problems. Feeds, fires, and ejects so I think with over 600 rounds through it I can trust it. I hope it stays that way. ...more
First time buyer at Buds. Ordered on Monday Picked up the new toy on Thursday afternoon. I examined the gun before we did the transfer and it looked fine to me. Some people are saying they are only getting one magazine and their gun came in a paper box. This 709 Slim came in a black plastic case and had the second magazine. I guess the difference between 250 and 275 dollars get you the second magazine. Took the gun home and cleaned out all the grease. This weekend I shot 100 rounds of Full Metal Jacket and the gun performed flawlessly. I love the slim grip since I have smaller hands. All in all I would say an excellent purchase price for an excellent product. ...more
