    Dependable
I bought this rifle a while back to replace an unnamed rifle, same caliber. The unnamed rifle failed to fire several times, costing two big bucks in Alabama, and one in Illinois . The Traditions does not fail. Period! [T...his review was collected as part of a promotion.] more

    Solid BP rifle
Bought mainly as a target shooter - it was VERY accurate right out of the box with ball and standard powder loads. I was very pleased with the cost/value ratio! I'd recommend this gun to anyone looking, but bear in ...mind it's a carbine, practically, and may be a tad small for big men. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] more

    Great Deer Rifle
This rifle is the base line of traditions rifle line but I found this rifle to be one of the most accurate firearms that I have ever shot I am using 90 grains of triple 7 with a 250 grain sst 1/2"groups @ 100 yds al...l day long that's what working in my rifle no two rifles are the same you need to get to the range and see what your rifle prefers traditions make some very accurate and dependable muzzle loaders!! excellent investment cannot go wrong . more

    Great hunting rifle
Great little rifle. Only reason i dont give it 5 stars is cause it takes a bit of work to dissasemble for proper cleaning. The break action is much easier to clean.

    Good beginner gun
I bought this gun a few months before muzzloader deer season. Mounted a scope on it and went to sight it in. Didn’t take long to get it sighted in and it was easy to load and shoot with no problems. I had to use th...e hammer extension that came with it after mounting the scope because the scope was right in the way. First time owning and shooting a muzzleloader but for the price it’s a good gun and plan to have it for awhile and pass it down as I upgrade in the future. more

    Accurate is an understatement!
I wanted a 209 muzzleloader that would not break the bank, so I took a chance on the Traditions Buckstalker. One of the better decisions I have made in a long time. I ordered the rifle online and it was shipped as promis...ed in one day. Then I drove down to the brick and mortar Academy to buy the supplies I would need. I had my sights set on the Traditions scope, however they were out of those and I found a CVA that made claims to work on any muzzleloader, to include Traditions. After adjusting the elevation on that scope as far as it could go myshot patterns were still nearly a foot below the bulls eye. It was then that I realized that there was no way I was going to get this scope to work on this Traditions Buckstalker without the proper rail assembly to raise the height of the scope. Instead of trying to rig something up to make it work properly I just removed the scope and went with the fixed sights. It took me only two shots with the fixed sights to be dead on center dot versus shooting probably 12 rounds trying to get that scope to work right. The main point I would like to stress about this rifle is accuracy. No matter if I was trying to zero in that lame scope or using the fixed sights, my shot groups were consistently 2" -and on one volley I had three rounds that were so close they created one large hole in the target. This gun is consistently accurate, has tight shot groups, and even with the fixed sights, I feel more than confident that I could drop a white tail at 80 + yards. I am ordering the Traditions scope kit the first chance I get though. I was really looking forward to having a decent quality scope on that rifle. Looks as though I will just have to wait a while, which is no problem since I am experiencing so much enjoyment from the fixed sights right now. Buy this rifle aqnd you will not be sorry! more

    Buck Stalker October 2014
Just bought one of these Down side: it's an inexpensive in line. The rear sights are plastic and snagged on the packaging when I was getting it out and the rear sight came off. The ram rod has an end piece you have ...to unscrew, flip around , and screw back on to make the ram rod long enough to load with. This part of the ram rod has a knearled part that I'm not too crazy about scraping up and down the rifling. So those two things are pretty cheesy. Up side: breech plug easily removed. Good trigger. Uses the 209 shotgun primers. Light. Short. Drilled and tapped for scope mounts. My 3rd - 5th shots with it were at 80 yards with 2" group and open sights. Two of them were in the same ragged hole. No misfires and shoots great. Overall? We'll worth $159 to me. Next year I'll have a better ram rod and a scope. more

    Well worth the money
I have owned a few muzzle loaders from old octagon hawkens, inline and now break breach. This gun will stand up to the more expensive ones out there. Packs apunch with the 24" barrel.

    Great value
Bought a month ago, great value for the $. Be careful with open sights!!! I tried to sight in and rear site cracked with I tried to adjust...it is not metal, its a cheaper composite material. I just got a Traditions scop...e, mounted and was hitting bull's eye at 75 yards on the 3rd shot. Overall this deal can not be beat! If you are going to put a scope on, go ahead and get gun+scope package. more

    Almost cleans itself
The design of this muzzleloader makes it so much easier to clean. The breechplug removes with little effort. And all that's needed to break down for cleaning is removal of the handguard and separate the barrel from ...the action. Reassembly does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Just reverse the take-down steps. The standard rear sight when placed in the center allowed the first shot to be on paper, so with a little adjustment it was center bull at 30 yards after only two shots. Loading was extremely easy after a quick swab with a wet patch between shots. I didn't do much as far as sighting in at longer distances as I will install a scope on this rifle for deer hunting. This Buckstalker is light enough and short enough to carry around in the brush, so lookout Bambi here it comes. Had great service from Academy Sports and would not hesitate to buy from them again. more

    Awesome Rifle!
I purchased this rifle about a month ago just to have a 209 to play with... just got around to sighting my rifles for the hunting season coming and took it out to fire a few shots... I was surprised!! Shot a few Sabots t...hrough it and they were on the money... decided to give it a whirl with some Great Plains 385 grain also on the money... took it a little further and broke out the homemade powder... *every shot was in the bulls-eye zone* run about 30 rounds through this thing and didn't swab the barrel one time in between them... I think I will hang the Hawkens up this year and put this one to a field test... Awesome Rifle, for the price! more
