I bought one two months ago. On inspection it seemed perfect. At the range I began experiencing the cylinder freezing. Could not cycle double action-barely single action. Sent e-mail to Charter and got an immediate response. Sent gun in (on their dime) and it was back in eight days. It now works like a charm. The gun is accurate and reliable. (I have only ever used quality factory ammo.) Got a great deal on a Crimson Trace grip. Put that on and dialed it in. This combo makes for an almost perfect carry piece. "Almost" because I pocket carry in my cargo pants...and it is just a tad too long to pocket carry in perfect comfort...at least for me. Do I like the Bulldog idea though? Yes. And just ordered a Bulldog Boomer. I have carried daily for over 30 years.Full size autos work, but dressing around the gun gets tiresome. Small autos work, sometimes. Self-defense does not allow "sometimes." It must go "bang" when bang is needed. Remember the "rule of threes"-almost all civilian defensive shootings are: three rounds or less, in three seconds or less, and at 3 yards or less.So I am back to revolvers-and the velocities from these short barreled guns are amazing. (Due to Charter's rifling.) That and a big heavy bullet. And the safety of a double action trigger. So I give it 5 stars ...more

This firearm represents the return of one of Charter Arms most popular classics, since 1973, and I've wanted to own one since then. Having ordered and received my BullDog Classic .44 from Bud's Gun Shop in a timely manner; after a visit with it to the range, I am totally pleased with this new acquisition, as it has become my latest EDC. The firearm is very light indeed, launches a .44 caliber impact and the 3 inch barrel provides decent ballistics. Recoil is stout, but manageable, and, with practice, you'll discover it places your shots on point of aim! Thank you Bud's for providing an outstanding Charter Arms .44 Classic at your equally outstanding price point. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ...more

It was my first time purchasing online. Did quite a bit of research and have only read positive reviews. Chatted online with a Buds rep who explained the purchasing process which was easy. rnrnSelected firearm, then FFL and completed purchase. 5 working days later I received a call from the FFL stating that the product was in and ready for pickup. rnrnI drove to the FFL and inspected the firearm. I paid the transfer fee and completed the transaction. Super easy and Buds has very competitive pricing. Buds also keeps up to date on rebates and discounts to ensure consumers are receiving any rebates or discounts which puts them ahead of many other brick and mortar stores. rnrnIt was an awesome transaction. Will definitely be using Buds again. ...more

I always wanted one of these, and it has lived up to expectations! A large bore in a light package; has a smooth trigger pull with little or no creep, and it pretty much hits where you aim. What more can you ask for? Excellent service from Bud's!! ...more

I had one of these back in 1981 but this gun is much more pretty. The bluing on this gun is excellent and the craftsmanship is excellent. Accuracy at 7 yards with PMC was 3-inch groups. Now the bad news. The gun was hanging up every 4th round regardless as to what cylinder was fired first. I did get about 75 rounds fired thru the gun. On every 4th round, you could feel the trigger starting to bind up as the trigger pull would be very gritty and the hangup would happen. I took the gun home and loaded it with spent cartridges, then dryfired the gun about 100 times as the trigger began to be more smooth. I have not fired the gun since this but will go back to the range and retest it. I'm going to give this gun 4 stars for craftsmanship. I've had problems with new guns before both Ruger and S&W so don't let one gun give you a bad feeling about buying it. I'm sure this gun will be repaired by the factory if it still hangs up after I re-test it. ...more

Impressively light and compact revolver! You could easily forget you're carrying this one on your side! The hammer is shrouded well enough for snag free carry but is easily accessed with your thumb for more controlled shots. It's a 44 Special so you get all the big bore benefits of a large heavy bullet but in a frame that carries more like a small 38 Special. I suggest trying SIG Elite 200 grain 44 Special self defense ammo (700 fps) in it, works well in this light weight & short barreled revolver. 44 Special is subsonic and doesn't kick too hard in this gun. ...more

This revolver looks good and fires fine. Plenty accurate for a close in self defense firearm. When I ordered this, I also ordered a set of compact grips from Charter Arms. The only problem is that the grips are open on the backstrap and Charter does a lousy job of fitting the frame there. I mean honestly a couple of minutes of filing prior to finish and assembling is too much to ask? I know this is a low cost budget revolver, but this thing will cut the heck out of the shooter's hand. Becomes a safety issue then. ...more

What can I say? I like the current crop of Charter Arms revolvers! Great fit and finish and arguably the best out of the box triggers that get even better with time. Also love the 5 shot .44 Special revolvers. Big bore but light weight. Great for carry when hiking in bear country! ...more
