Hi-Point Firearms JHP 45 Description

+P rated High-impact polymer frame High-impact grips Durable, attractive easy-grip finish Free extra rear peep sight Last round lock open FREE trigger lock Magazine disconnect safety

Design

The pistol has an integral accessory rail, and a thumb safety. It is also capable of firing +P ammunition. The weapon uses the .45 ACP cartridge, and is the largest pistol that Hi-Point manufactures. The weapon comes with a lifetime warranty like other Hi-Point firearms.
Hi-Point’s handguns use a blowback design similar to that used in the Walther PPK and Russian Makarov PM. In blowback weapons the return spring and mass of the slide absorbs the rearward force generated by the propulsion of the bullet. As the slide moves back, an extractor hooks the empty casing and pulls it out of the chamber after which the case is ejected from the weapon. When the slide has completed its rearward travel, the recoil spring moves the slide forward, chambering another round. Many modern handguns use a locked-breech design and therefore do not require the amount of mass that the blowback design requires in order to remain safe to fire, comfortable to shoot, and easy to control during the firing process. For this reason the felt recoil for the shooter is decreased.

When the last round is fired and ejected, the slide will lock in the open position. There is no slide release on the Hi-Point .45 JHP, so releasing the slide is performed by pulling the locked slide further back. When another magazine is loaded into the weapon all that is necessary is a short pull back, unlike the full length pull to chamber the first round.

Out of the box this weapon comes with the normal 3-dot sight and also comes with a ghost ring sight. Along with the sights the weapon comes with a trigger lock at no extra costs and can be ordered from their website. The gun’s barrel has a 7 groove right hand twist. The gun’s rail only fits a proprietary Hi-Point laser sight.

Due to the fixed barrel, accuracy is well above average, on par with higher priced pistols this weapon remains popular due to its low cost and lifetime, no questions asked warranty, and extremely rugged nature.

Some aftermarket upgrades or modifications not sold by Hi-Point are available such as a milled aluminum rear sight, wood grips, a replacement magazine catch that converts the pistol to use 1911 pistol magazines, and a special CNC milled aluminum “key chain” trigger.

Criticism

Hi-Point handguns have been criticized for their weight, size, however, they do help to cut down on recoil. The JHP has also been known to have issues with magazine feeds and feed jams.
Some consider the lack of a firing pin block safety mechanism in the striker fired design to be inherently less safe than other designs and, therefore not safe to carry in Condition One.

    Great Weapon
I've own my pistol for 6 years now and have put close to 1,000 rounds down range and no issues. The upper and lower receiver remain tight and is still accurate up to 50 yards. I even shoot the 14 round extended mag ...and no issues with feeding or extracting the brass. Hollow point ammo may cause issues with the extracting but 230 gram ball works just fine. Cleaning is easy. I am going to buying a 2nd one soon. It even gets the attention of those high end shooters at the range where they are not as accurate but that could be the shooter of course but I know it's the weapon. more

    GREAT BUDGET FIREARM
I HAVE READ GOOD AND BAD REVIEWS FOR HI POINT PISTOLS. FEWER BAD REVIEWS FOR THE .45 JHP. I RUN APX. 100 ROUNDS WITH 3 DIFFERENT BRANDS OF 230GR FMJ AMMO WITH GREAT RESULTS. HOLES WERE TOUCHING IN AND AROUND THE BULLSEYE.... FOR ME THIS IS A PLINKER FOR MY FAMILY AND I TO ENJOY. I FEEL IT WILL SERVE IT'S PURPOSE FOR HOME DEFENSE WITH GREAT KNOCK DOWN POWER IF YOU HAVE LIMITED OPTIONS. TAKE TIME TO LEARN SAFETY, TRAINING, AND PRACTICE. IT SHOULD BENEFIT YOU! more

    Awesome price point pistol...
I have owned numerous hipoint firearms. From the 380 pistol to the 45 carbine. I have never been disappointed in them. They are just as good, I think better than a full-sized Glock. They weigh the same. I have had Glocks... fail when I needed them most. Never had a hipoint fail. Even with the cheapest Russian ammo they are still reliable. Great gun period. I hog hunt with them. more

Excellent price for a good gun
I have owned my hipoint for a year now. Honestly these are really good guns for the money. They are very heavy but that knocked recoil down considerably. 10 round mag had problems feeding the second round, only lead up r...ight and it will eat any ammo you shove down its throat. Great night stand or truck gun. The best part is lifetime warranty and MADE IN THE USA more

    Great gun for the price
I have owned this gun for three years with no worries. It is a cheaper priced gun so normally I would worry about purchasing one but it has not let me down once. Great value! It is bulky and heavy but it shoots great.

    Ugly & Heavy
This is a pistol made in the USA, it does shoot, and accuracy is good! But worn you it is heavy gun, awful trigger and plain ugly, it's cheap but rugged and seems too be reliable. Fired multiple types of ammunition ...it only had two failure to eject properly. And to break down this pistol to claen "expletive words" !!!!!!! But if its life our death, this ugly gun could probably save it. All I can say, it shoots, and accuracy is good. Better than a rock, or knife when comes too your life. more

I had wanted to get a 45 acp since I fired my brothers 45 Combat Commander, but balked at the current price of his gun. I saw the Hi Point on SG, and did some research. That research said that the Hi Point was ugly as si...n, heavy, and cheap, but it also said that it was accurate, tough, and backed by the best warranty in the business. The research was correct on all counts (it IS ugly - but not too ugly, especially since everything else was correct too). It's really only 3 oz heavier than my brothers expensive gun, but is every bit as accurate, and has a lower felt recoil + a bigger magazine. As for cost, I bought the gun, had it shipped to my FFL, paid for the Federal check for a pistol, and bought practice rounds, and was still less than $200 out of my pocket. For me, that spells GREAT GUN, especially for the price. Did I mention a lower felt recoil too? more

I'm a Glock guy, that's what I carry and keep one in the nightstand. I bought my first HP .45 USED as something to keep in the truck. Just to keep it real, the first 200 rounds I did encounter some misfires, but they wer...e usually easily solved by just manually pushing the slide forward. But I took it to a gunsmith, had him break it down and Froglube it, and now it runs like a top. Since then I've purchased 3 more, one for my car, one for the ditch bag and one for my girlfriend. I think the key to Hi Point happiness is to a) read the owners manual b) don't expect Sig performance c) after the manufacturer recommended break-in (avg 300 rounds), break it down yourself or have a gunsmith do it and Froggrease it. Pros: Price. Accuracy (especially 5-12meters). Simple mechanism. Lifetime warranty. Rugged. Cons: Heavy (some say). Clunky. Some mag feed issues/misfires. Requires some time to take apart and reassemble. My gal had never shot anything before, and I started her out on a HP .45. Out of the box she was getting 6-8" groups at 15 yards. She loves it, even when gun snobs turn up their noses. Get one. more

I have owned one of these for at least a decade now. It was my first pistol because of the price and after sorting out a magazine based feed problem it has been one of the most reliable guns I own. Its the AK-47 of pisto...ls in my opinion, its not sexy but it keeps getting the job done no matter what you do to it. If you want a gun that is going to get you compliments, this isnt it. If you want a gun that will shoot well and keep on shooting, this is where to start. Think I might be biased because it was my first? Open your search engine and type Demolition Ranch Hi Point. Watch the video. Nuff said. more

I received my new Hi Point 45 this past Thursday. This morning I took it to our range and fired 200 rounds through it all of which were my hand loads of 185 grain coated lead swc and 230 grain coated lead round nose. Not... a single issue occurred. Everything fed perfectly and flawlessly. Both magazines were perfect. I will admit the pistol is rather heavy, much heavier than my Kimber 1911, but I felt the weight kept muzzle flip to a minimum. Just my opinion, I found the weapon to be very reliable. Next to purchase the 9mm! more

I purchased this gun a while back and had shot it with absolutely no issues. Cleaned it and put it away in my safe. Last weekend a friend and I went to a local range so I brought my Hi Point to put a few more rounds thro...ugh it. While shooting the magazines FELL OUT!! I did not hit the release mechanism nor did I not seat the magazine in properly. I've been shooting for decades and know what I'm doing. Even the range safety guy was laughing at me as the magazines would drop to the ground while I was shooting. It didn't happen with one or two of the mags, BUT ALL THREE OF THEM!! I had to stretch my pinky finger under the mag to keep it in while shooting. I guess I got what I paid for. Oh well... Makes a great door stop now. more

I have had ZERO problems with this weapon. 500 Rounds through it so far with no failure to feed, no stove pipes, no jams whatsoever. I've been running 230gr Winchester whites through it, but now I'm gonna start running o...thers such as TULA, Maxxtech, and others to see how she'll hold up. At the price point, this pistol completely exceeded my expectations. Some say that it's difficult to break down and clean. Once you get the sequence down, it's actually quite easy. Very accurate right out of the box. Only adjustment I made was installation of ghost ring sight that came with it. Shot groups at 25ft fit within a quarter. I love this pistol. more

Awesome bang for your buck gun. Not something I{c76683110d12cc59c3d791d2ecc1c6a21461842a6bdc8aebef87278da983ab7d}u2019ll be carrying, I{c76683110d12cc59c3d791d2ecc1c6a21461842a6bdc8aebef87278da983ab7d}u2019ll stick to my... Glock 22 for that. But this gun provides a cheap way to have protection in a spot you want without spending a bunch of money, I.E. a survival bag or in a designated lock box. Hi-Point provides exceptional customer service, and when you send your gun back for any issues, I{c76683110d12cc59c3d791d2ecc1c6a21461842a6bdc8aebef87278da983ab7d}u2019ve heard from multiple people that they through in an extra magazine for you when they return it. Make sure to purchase an extra magazine or more if you{c76683110d12cc59c3d791d2ecc1c6a21461842a6bdc8aebef87278da983ab7d}u2019d like, as it only comes with one. People keep saying Hi Points jam and are horrible guns. Maybe they sucked when they first came out but this gun is a good home protection gun. Definitely not a ccw. I live in Virginia so i can open carry. I opened the bo...x and loaded it. Fire 3 clips of Magtech 230 gr. One of the clips I just let her rip. Flawless. Then I fired on clip of Winchester defend 230 grain hollow points. Yes this is a big heavy gun. Yes it alil bit of a pain to clean. Yes its accurate and fun to shoot. Just purchased my Hi-Point JHP .45 earlier this week. This gun not only shoots very accurately, but DOES NOT jam. Yes it is a tank of a gun and not one for concealed carry, but it is an excellent choice for keeping in yo...ur home for self defense. Nothing against Glock, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, Sig Sauer or any of the other high priced firearms, but at the end of the day if what you are looking for is a reliable, accurate, affordable pistol that will sling lead as good as any, then this is the gun for you. Some talk about how "ugly" this gun is, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if it delivers on price, accuracy and dependability then it looks just fine. If you get in a situation and need this gun to work, you won't be caring if it's gold plated with diamonds on the handles, so long as it works, and it will. Also Bud's came through as they always do and delivered this gun quickly and well packaged. It would highly recommend both the Hi-Point .45 JHP and Bud's Gun shop and will buy form them again. more

So far, the JHP 45 has run like a champ with 150 rnds brass ammo. Will see if it eats the cheap Tula in a couple of days. The major downside of the gun is that the single stack mag only holds 9 ( 1 in the chamber); given... its sheer size, this seems like a wasted opportunity for a double stack. There would be plenty of room, anyway. Probably not a good carry gun due to size and weight, but the weight also softens felt recoil down to the same level as my full-sized 9mm. Buying from Buds was, as always, a pleasant experience. more

Well folks I purchased this ugly gun for fun to compare it with my friends Colt 1911 (both new out of the box} we each loaded our magazines with 7 federal FMJ bullets. Shot one for 1 at separate targets. We decided to be...t on accuracy and performance. RESULTS, I fired 200 rounds with the Hi Point and absolutely blew out the center of the target no glitches at all. My friends Colt 1911 which cost three times as much, had several glitches a couple stove pipes and after he fired 100 rounds he quit shooting and handed me the bet. What more can I saysay. Great gun, Little heavy which actually retards the recoil some. more

I own too many guns . If that is possible. 3 guns are Hi Points. I keep track of all of them. Rounds fired, trips back to mfg , what ammo works better etc. Out of all brands Hi Points win the prize for No Problems, no ret...urns, function correctly right out of the box. While some more esteemed guns have been back to the mfg twice. This 45 works. 100 rounds today ,at break in , and zero issues. I know all the negatives that people may say but I'll take a gun that works and this is no exception. Put my life on the line with Hi Point ?? You better believe it. more

It's Robocop's gun. Big, powerful, menacing. I like the look and feel of it. You definitely feel like you have a "real" gun in your hands, rather than a toy. I hear a lot of "It's heavy!" and "It's ugly!" out there. Look...ing at mine, it isn't uglier than a Glock (It is clearly meant to be USED, not hung on a wall. It looks like the gun answer to the A-10 Warthog...) And while heavy, it isn't uncomfortable to hold. I wouldn't want to carry it all day, but it isn't THAT heavy. I like the feel and the shape of the grip. For what it is meant to do, it does a good job: Inexpensive, full size gun for those who want it. Perhaps there are better (more expensive) options out there, but it looks like a good gun to me. I haven't shot it yet, (hope to do so soon) so this is my first impressions only. more

So many like to put the HiPoint down. I can't speak of any of them except the 45 model. This is a HEAVY HEAVY (did I say HEAVY yet?) gun! The weight takes away from the recoil. What a FUN gun to shoot! Search how to mod ...it, and how to clean it properly, as you have to do your part for such an inexpensive 45. This isn't a carry gun, unless you wear a belt and suspenders, as, did I mention, It's HEAVY as heck! lol Still, a good house or truck gun. Not pretty, but, goes BOOM every time. Polish the receiver tho, make it shine pretty silver! Might also have to bend the lips of the magazine as well. If you want a fun gun to mess around with, and maybe take apart and modify, this works! I LOVE it! more

The Hi Point JHP 45 is a complete weaponological system! Its comically large size and weight, 3 lbs empty, means that it not only functions as an accurate 45ACP handgun, but also functions as a bludgeon, or, if you hold ...it in front of you, body armor! It is that big! Many people will be scared away because it is so ugly! Thus it is not just a handgun, but a complete weapons system! I put 100 rounds of various 230gr LRN reloads, weak to hot, through it without any issues. It is as accurate as the shooter. Comes clean in the box with 1 mag, extra peep sight, tools for installing the sight, and a cheap trigger lock. I only swabbed the barrel before firing it. Ignore the specs, this gun weighs 47ish ounces empty, and about three and a half pounds with a full mag. Fit and finish is good. It is barrel heavy so it takes me a lot of hand strength to hold it on target. It has a mag safety and does not have a slide release. To take down for cleaning, you have to hammer out a pin with a punch. I plan to hose it out with gunblast instead of taking it down and see how that works out. It would be impractical for any type of regular carry for me due to its size and weight and I am pretty big. For $157 I think it is a very good deal as it is both reliable and accurate. To me, all of the cons are offset by the low price, quality, and reliable, though very basic, functionality. If you are on the fence, get it. It is an inexpensive, cartoonishly large, complete weaponological system! It took 12 days from order date until delivery to FFL. Price was unbeatable. more

After reading several negative comments about Hi-Point, decided to take the plunch anyway. What a surprise! The weapon is heavy but very well balanced. Out of the box, fired almost 50 rounds of various ammo, FMJ, JHP and... re-loads, no problems at all. Also very accurate. The weight allows to stay on target. As far as concealed carry, matched mine to an Alien Gear CCW holster and it does not imprint and remains comfortable for all day carry, despite the weight. For the money, can't go wrong. I think I ordered this thing right before 2012, so I've had it for a while now. When I bought it I paid $163, and it's been worth every penny. Sure, it's ugly and bulky and weighs a ton; but I've shot it a bunch without ...a single hic up. I live out in the country on 3 acres so I shoot it ever so often and it's fun to shoot. One advantage to it's overweight body is recoil reduction. I had a 380 tcp that kicked worse than this thing. Anyways, I got this as a home defense night stand gun and I trust it. If I ever have to defend my home with this .45 I know it's going to go bang when I pull the trigger. Best .45 you can get for the money! more

An amazing pistol, like everyone says. Of course, it's not a Ruger or S&W level of quality, but the functional quality is fantastic, given the price. One box of shells put through it with no malfunctions of any kind. Mor...e accurate than some of my more expensive pistols, but it's also large and heavy, so carrying isn't a realistic option, unless under a parka in winter. What a wonderful gun. This was my first online buy...was easy. The gun is big, heavy and ACCURATE. What fun to shoot. I enjoy it more than my Glock. I hear a lot of people make negative comments about this brand stating that it is cheap and junk. I have to disagree! While it is not as tight or as beautiful as my Taurus 1911 it is a reliable nice full size .45 for the... money. I shot 220 rounds thru this cheap little gem without issue. It fires reliably every time. After some getting used to at 7 and 10 yards it had decent grouping with most being in a 4-6 inch group. Not too bad. The sights could use updated which might help. But for under $200? They are ugly and heavy but you won't be disappointed if you're expecting to receive an ugly, heavy .45 on the cheap. Buy one. more

I have had my gun for a few months now and I must say I love it. Some people I've let shoot it complained about the weight of it, I'm a girl and it doesn't bother me so I guess to each their own. I wouldn't recommend it ...as a weapon to carry or anything, but for home defense it is fine. It's also accurate, I've taken it target shooting several times. The only very minor complaint I have is about the slickness of the grip, but that is an easy fix. I feel if you keep it clean and oiled you will have lots of... success with this gun. Received the gun in 3 days. No problem with the already registered FFL. For the money I was pretty impressed with the gun. I own 2 1911 .45's and wanted a cheap .45 that I could use for a "beater" gun. I read a lot of re...views before the purchase and most said it was reliable and shot fairly well. I have to agree, Ive had not 1 problem with cycling, firing, extraction. My accuracy at 15 yds standing offhand was 2.5" with Federal 235 fmj. Pretty impressive for the cost. Weight is a concern but its not bad for any working man. My wife shot it and had no problems. My only cons are that the grip is real smooth polymer and If your going to be shooting a lot of ammo at a time, the rear of the receiver is going to bruise your thumb where it meets the web. The Hi Point 45acp was a much larger, wider firearm than I expected. I am accustomed to 1911 models and this was substantially wider across the slide. It also felt top heavy when I first picked it up. It would not fit in... any of my 1911 holster rigs. I will design and build a holster to fit it. I shot about 50 rds through it and it functioned perfectly. The slide will not release when an empty magazine is in the magwell. The "slide release" is the safety and it only functions when the mag well is empty. It does however have one major advantage. The Hi Point 45acp 9 rd. pistol magazines are interchangeable with the Hi Point 45acp rifle. And vice-a-versa. Gives a tactical advantage in carrying the same ammo mags for both. This is not a handsome firearm. It is bulky and chunky. But it is very reasonably priced and that makes it a good value in my opinion. more

Shooting this pistol is a pleasure. The grip felt good in my hand, and the weight of the gun reduced recoil to the same as a 9mm. The pistol is easy to get to point of aim, and it was accurate right out of the box. Trigg...er pull is nice. 230 gr FMJ shot flawlessly. This gun met my expectations admirably. I have no regrets with this purchase. more

1st gun ive shot or owned larger than a 22. Not by any means a "expert" . Im just one like many others looking for a practical /inexpensive way to kinda just protect my family/home. Recieved gun in about 4 days. Finnally... took it out to shoot it yesterday. Id have to say, nice gun. I havent shot alot of others , so I have nothing to compare it to. I just went through 100 rounds and it went bang every time. Cant really comment on the accuracy, because its the 1st gun ive shot/held in about 20yrs. All in all , im happy with this purchase and will definetily look to Buds Guns 1st before buying my next weapon. more

First off Buds provided great customer service. The Hi Point 45 what can I say? I have many friends at work that said don't waist your money. Well they were wrong! This gun performs beyond words. The people complaining a...bout jam issues just don't know how to load a clip. I had issues my first clip, but after I figured the clip out no issues. Accuracy is outstanding. 7yd shooting I was in 2in group. Buying the 9mm next. more

The price alone is worth getting this gun. I just shot it today however, and it delivered in spades! Not a single jam, one failure to feed (super cheap steel cased ammo that I scratched when loading into the mag), and ac...curacy was much better than I expected. The awkward weight distribution that these guns catch flak for actually made recoil very manageable, bringing the .45 down to the perceived recoil of the 9mm. Love shooting this pistol and would recommend it in a heartbeat. more

shipping was fast,FFL dealer u suggested was great to work with. Took it to the range with a friend of mine a long time shooter. Put 100 rds thru it with no problems and then my friend wanted to try it because he had hea...r so much crap about them and after he fire it he said he was very impressed with it's handling and being able to hold a 3" patten at 50'. I am not quit that good but I really like my black beauty an had a ball shooting it. I was supprise by the kick. Was alot less then I thought it would be for such a heavy and big gun. Now I am waiting for my 9mm. Buds is great to deal with. Thanks more

I’ll just say that I am an amateur when it comes to firearms.  My first firearms purchase was in January of this year.  My rifle is great and I would not trade it for anything, but I wanted to obtain another gun.  M...y only handgun experience was limited to trying 3 different 9mm and one 44 magnum Desert Eagle.  I did not care for the 9mm pistols because to me they were too light and hard to say on target.  Maybe it’s a newbie thing.  However, I loved the Desert Eagle which made me want a heavy large caliber gun.  Honestly, I was not interested in spending over a thousand dollars for a gun.  Plus my wife would have been extremely upset.  I did some research on Hi Point guns and was surprised that they were 100{b49e2988789cb9b673c1487a949d9bbd707122ca9f63b9a19d288a71cf2f9423} made in America.  I was attached to a company that manufactures a gun with all American parts and labor.  The price did not hurt either.  I read just about everything I could about the 45 JHP and I found that people either loved it or hated it.  From what I could tell, there seems to be a battle between hard core gun fanatics and open minded gun enthusiasts.  Since more reviews loved the gun than not, I decided that was good enough for me to try out.  Last night I took the gun to the range for the first time.  All I can say is that it was the best $170 I ever spent.  After I fired through the first magazine, I was a bit concerned because I was not too accurate.  However, I had to remember that my handgun experience was limited.  I relaxed and put several more magazines down range.  For the first time with any gun, I was able to put several rounds in the center of the target at 25 feet.  I am now sold on Hi Points.  65 rounds were put through the gun last night with no issues.  All I can say is that I am extremely happy with this gun.  The best part about being a newbie is that in my zest to learn, I don’t have any preconceived notions on what a gun should look like or the name stamped into the handle.  My Hi Point JHP 45acp is well balanced for me, accurate, reliable, and well priced.  What else could you ask for in a handgun?    Ed - Michigan more

I just recently purchased this firearm on 2/15/12 and i called my FFL dealer to check the delivery time and they said it was scheduled to be delivered today. Bud's was very fast in getting it shipped out but USPS on the ...other hand is taking longer than 2 days to get it delivered. I expect it here tommorow most likely and I have very high expectations for it. I realize that it isn't a Glock or any other brand name; but hey, if you ask me who the hell cares what it looks like? As long as it functions(and all people but the gun snobs say it does) then there is no problem. I will post a additional review as to how the weapon actually functions under more than a "normal" going to the range type deal. I am a retired Army Vet. served 6 years in the 82nd AD. My grandson was in the Army Reserves as a Combat Engineer so we will both be putting it under our own tests. It is very difficult for my grandson to wait for it because it will be his first handgun that I promised him on his bday he would get as a present from me when I got my taxes back. I hope it doesnt let him down if he ever needs it and that it is a great gift. Buds, once again, OUTSTANDING service. USPS, try to do a better job in shipping packages on time. Til HE/WE pick it up and test it, HAVE A GOOD ONE Jim T. NOTICE: My grandson is OVER 21. You cannot buy a handgun for someone who can't because of age. It's not only wrong, IT'S ILLEGAL! I DO NOT CONDONE ANYONE FURNISHING A HANDGUN TO A MINOR!!! AND MINOR MEANING ANYONE UNDER 21! more

Well worth every penny..... The gun has a good weight to it, easy to use, and fires every time.... I have more than 2000 rounds through mine not one single jam.. I opened up the prongs that hold the front part of the bul...let in the mag just slightly to keep it from jamming... Those who have had problems with the full mag spray rem oil on the spring in the mag and leave it fully loaded for a day or 2 it will loosen up.. It may not be as esthetically pleasing as some other guns, but if your buying a gun to match your outfit your buying it for all the wrong reasons..... I love this gun and if your looking for something to defend yourself with I'm sure you will too... As for buds super fast service ordered Monday had it on Wednesday... more

I've had my CHL for about 6 months, and received my Hi Point 45 just three days ago, I took it to the range today and put all but one clip's worth of a 50 round box through it without any troubl...e so far. Concealment on this weapon is a little problematic for me because i'm a big guy, and it's a hefty gun, but otherwise, i'm happy to report no feeder or jamming problems so far. Great gun for the price. I had my .45 for 3 years and put a few thousand rounds down range with no complaints on the function or sighting. The only issue I have is the type of safety lever used, it could possible be an i...ssue if someone is not careful. The other issue is you need a punch and hammer to remove the take down pin in order to clean the gun. With all that said, because of the bulk and weight if the gun if you run out of rounds you could still beat your target to death with it. more

First off, I'm a new gun owner and not an expert by any means. I was attracted to Hi-Point the same reason I think anyone would be.....the price. I've done a fair amount of research on this gun and discovered it has a pr...etty bad rep out there, but on the other hand there's a fair amount of people who stand behind these guns 100{ebbc61a6f20c769c70bade9acfb478bb667aed318b96bea193d6558490627636} like most of the reviews you see here. Kinda like Ford vs. Chevy really. I figured if it shoots...money well spent.....if not.....I got what I paid for. I haven't received the gun yet, but from the research I've done on this I'd like to share a few tips for those who may be having issues with the gun jamming (upon research this seems to pop up frequently). These are common things I've seen throughout the internet that I thought would be useful to some of you. 1) Clean the gun before first use - Get rid of that factory grease and get some good lube in it (I would assume this is standard for any firearm really), also I've heard polishing the feed ramp helps as well since it comes from the factory painted and may cause potential drag. 2) Don't limp wrist fire the gun - Any blow back fed gun needs some stability from the shooter as to not take away from the slides energy to properly reload the next round. 3) I heard that the magazine can sometimes cause jams as well due to a weak spring, disassembling the mag and stretching the spring wouldn't hurt or purchase a better one from Hi-Point directly for about $15. I'll send another post when I get mine and let y'all know how it performs for me. Thanks buds for awesome and easy service! more

By far the worst decision I have made was purchasing anything from hi-point I can't put 5 rounds down range without a malfunction whether fails to load properly or fails to eject the spent round its always a problem the ...first 500 rounds or so went by with minimal problems but after that nothing but problems n an embarrassment to take to the range I bought the 45 and the 9mm at the same time similar problems with both the magazine for the 9mm kept feeding the round directly into the edge of the feed ramp I'm prior service army I clean my weapons as if it were my religion n there is no salvation for these I've purchased extra magazines only to have the same problems polished feed ramps re-manufactured the magazines but any more than 4 rounds in the magazines n it levels the rounds n doesn't line towards the ramp I've tried almost every type of ammo available to me with all the same results I can only now hope I can pawn sell or trade em for a real weapon I could never depend on these for my life I bought em for fun and they've been everything but they're about as deadly as a soap dish do yourself a favor and do not purchase from hi-point save a little longer n buy something considered a weapon more

As for value .. it’s a $161 dollar weapon that fires like a $500 one .. it feels good to fire it .. its solid and I had zero issues with it .. I agree with al the past write-ups with the following added.,.. . 1. Gun i...s ugly as hell but yet has a unique style to it… 2. Grips are plastic. Just plain ol' slick plastic ... Feels thin and like it could break if you drop it -- BUT it does have a lifetime warranty on the weapon so no worries there.... 3. Weapon fits my hands well…. It’s a solid heavy gun that just feels good to hold. Yes its heavy - but heck its a .45 and with my eyes closed seems to weigh the same as my neighbors 1911 … have no idea where they got the weight of 3.2 pounds that they advertise since it’s about a pound and a half heavier with ammo ... gun emptied weighed in at over 4.1 pounds... 4. NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT .. The safety on the gun is awkward .. its small .. very small ... does not protrude nearly far enough out and is SMALL to find … and probably a little difficult to find if the adrenaline is flowing ... and the plastic that borders the safety is sharp and will scrap your thumb up ... 5. The magazine is flimsy .. I mean -- thin with sharp thin edges on top of the rail that you load bullets into .. I know they did this to keep pricing down … but man if you are not careful you could crush the magazine if you set on it or squeezed it tightly … also after loading 250 rounds my thumb was shot and actually cut up pretty good from the edges on top of all the Hi-Point magazines ..... 6. After firing the last round you have to physically pull the slide to load the next round from the new magazine .. no one handed firing ... 7. Trigger guard perfectly placed ... fits my hand perfectly 8. Good feel on the trigger pull .. solid .. deliberate ... 9. Good sights .. easy to adjust although I was hitting the bulleye at 25 meters out of the box ... 10. Weapon had much less kick then my .357 revolver or my .40 auto 11. Suggest you purchase the magazines directly from Hi-Point .. its $15 and includes shipping in the price .. i could not find them any cheaper anywhere .. Now for the firing ... man this thing rocks .. fired 250 rounds through it with ZERO errors ... you MUST give it a good cleaning and lube PRIOR to using though .. you can tell that Hi-Point uses minimal lubricant and not the good stuff either ... I babied the weapon for the first 20 rounds mainly to get a good site picture and then after that fired as many as fast s i could .. zero issues .. recoil is surprising low... I buy all my weapons from Buds .. they always beat everyone’s prices -- and they have great service .. BUT with that said .. I did a Direct Deposit from my bank to theirs on a Thursday .. they pulled the money on that same Thursday from my account .. and then did not mail the weapon until a week later the following Thursday via UPS which means that it was not delivered to my FFL until the following Monday (UPS does not work weekends) ... not a big deal but its hard to wait for new toys .. especially if they already have your money and it’s just sitting there .. I did purchase a FOBUS paddle holster on Amazon for the weapon .. I will tell you this will NEVER be my CCW (I have a Taurus .40 for that) .. the Hi-Point is too heavy and too big to try to do a CCW … but for $161 I can just keep this in the truck and not worry about losing it or really having to baby it … With all the above said .. so far it seems to be a $161 dollar weapon that delivers bullets accurately and lethally downrange just as well as any $500 .45 would… more

I was skeptical at first: 1. ordering online (flawless...always kept me posted via email...Benbrook pawn was terrific in transferring gun) 2. worried about a $159 gun, how good could it be 3. Was told it was heavy and bu...lky I received the gun for Fathers day, didn't shoot it till mid August. 1. flawless...always kept me posted via email...Benbrook pawn was terrific in transferring gun 2. GREAT BUY for $159........ shot 50 rounds of cheap ammo, never had a miss load. Not for folks with small hands. Safety is a little tough to disengage in a hurry or using firing hand. I plan to tweak it. You can easily operate safety with balance hand. 3. it is heavy, but you want that when shooting a .45 ACP. very comfortable when firing, minimized recoil reaction...deadly accurate, I plan to buy the .380, 9mm, ad the .45 cal rifle. So I just got back from the range with this ugly stick, so here is my initial review. First impressions when opening the box; its ugly, its heavy, and it rattles. I later discovered via the owners manual that the parts m...aking the rattling are internal safety mechanisms designed to prevent firing if dropped. Put 150 rounds through this thing (Fiocchi 230grs FMJ) to be precise. First couple mags and this thing performed like a champ. Recoil was what I expected from a 45. Had one failure to feed. The previous round fired fine and didn't feel under-powered. The next round was lined up properly with the barrel, but for some reason the slide failed to fully return forward. I didn't notice it at first because I was focused at the target downrange and the last round felt normal. I didn't notice the malfunction until I attempted to pull the trigger. Apparently there is a safety mechanism which prevents the trigger from being pulled if the slide is not in the proper position. Good thing too, because the round was lined up properly in the gun so I'm sure the pin would have struck the primer if I pulled the trigger. It could have blown up in my hand, or worse, backfired in my face. I didn't perform any sort of cleaning or lubing when I first got it, so the only lubricant was the thick grease gunk applied at the factory. As this malfunction occurred about half way through my first box of ammo, and the next 120 or so rounds fired went off without a hitch, I am willing to chalk this up to new gun/magazine stiffness. I'm confident this malfunction won't happen in the future once I get that factory gunk cleaned out of there and get some decent lube on it. As for accuracy this thing performed like a champ. I was shooting groups comparable to my CZ SP-01 Phantom 9mm, which is one of the more accurate handguns I have fired. One other thing, the manual safety does not work. The trigger pull is the same with the safety in the either the fire or safety position. This may be a problem for some, but I am not worried about it. I don't chamber a round until I am ready to shoot, so for me the entire big heavy slide functions as my safety. As for Bud's, I bought this on a Wednesday, it shipped Thursday, and I picked it up from my local FFL dealer on Saturday. more

I agree the 45's are too bulky to carry, but great firepower for home defense. My uncle told me about his Hi-point .45acp that he bought threw buds. Buds and Hi-point made a believer out of him! I told him i was in the market but didn't have a lot of money. He convinced me (which wasn't hard) that ...the hi-point 45 was the best cheapest gun he'd ever seen. After reading threw the reviews i was soon looking for a local ffl dealer! Transaction went real smooth, pick up from the FFL dealer went well... $20 transfer fee. Can't beat a 45 cal for UNDER $200!!! when i got it, i fired the first clip and the pattern wasn't too tight. The second clip was a lot tighter. 3rd clip it was on point!! didn't even have to adjust the sight. My Dad is now going to order the hi-point 40S&W! *** i did however get hacked and someone from Spain tried charging my Debit card for a $1,000 suit hotel room. Not entirely sure if buds has a virus attached but i did receive an email stating that i wasn't the only one saying i was a victim of a computer hacker. They have a notice up saying that their working on it and their NOT accepting credit card transactions all weekend. My credit and money were saved and a BIG thank you to buds for acting promptly!*** I'll be back to purchase again when the dust settles! God Bless! more

I put 100 rounds through no problem. Its heavy but it doesn't seem to bother me. My girlfriend shot it and it was her first time shooting a gun and she's small so no one should have any recoil problems. I brought my frie...nds 9mm p95 ruger and couldn't tell a difference. And my ffl dealer is a place that also sells fish and aquariums so it had a nice chlorine smell to it. Highly recomend it. more

For anyone looking for a 45acp this gun is for you. I have enjoyed shooting 250 plus rounds thru it with no problems using winchester jhp. I bought 50 rounds of cheap Tula ammo and had a primer fall out and jam the slide.... Not the guns fault obviously. So zero problems for me so far. I bought a fingered grip (Qwik grip) from the gun show over the weekend and it gives a nice polished look as well as great grip. Takes the ugliness away from the standard grips that came on it. I recommend this gun to everyone. It is extremely easy to shoot. My wife, son & step sons like it better than the 9mm S&W sw9ve I bought. I did my research on Hi Point before I bought it and everyone that owned one gave it praise. Not to mention a few honest editors from gun magazines. So I hope my two cents helps you make up your mind if your not sure. Thanks Bud's guns!! You guys are awesome every time I order a gun, you take me thru the process step by step. My only complaint is the one time I emailed because I had a question and I got a computer generated email stating it would take one day to respond, but I never did get a response from a person like it said I would get. more

I ordered mine a couple months ago but only recently got to the range. First impressions--it's heavy, it's ugly, but at $156 it's a great price for .45. It shot reliably for 100 rounds and shoots straight at 25' with no ...sight adjustment needed. The recoil was very manageable for such a big gun. I like the nice manual safety. My only annoyance is you need to press out a pin to strip it for cleaning and you need to buy Highpoints' proprietary clips. But at this price it is a great gun for hiding in the car or around the house, shop, etc and other "handy" locations to have nearby if the Zombies strike. more

This gun put the first 100 rounds through it without a single hitch. Since that, I've had nothing but trouble. Constant problems with jams with every magazine. I've tried cleaning and that seems to work for one magazine ...or two, but then back to jamming again. I don't think these people giving such high praises have shot this for long. My only positive point of this gun is the accuracy. This is one of the easiest guns to shoot the center of a target out. Buds did an awesome job of shipping, of course. more

I have read many, many reviews and opinions on hi-points, and having now purchased two (9mm and the 45), I can say that It is a darn good company and a heck of a great deal for simple, dependable pistols. The .45 shoots ...very well, but it is a monster (in weight and size). Recoil is manageable and I can shoot it all day comfortably. First trip out to the range with 100 rounds through and no issues (no FTFs, no ejection issues). This is not a Kimber, but if you're looking for a simple .45, American made shooter for fun, and which has a 9 round capacity, I definitely recommend it. Don't listen to the gun snobs out there; try it first, you may love it! Suggestion for you all, if you do buy one: For both my 9 and .45, I made a homemade grip out of bicycle innertube. Cut a 2" strip at an angle (for the bottom), put a few drops of oil on the plastic and slide it on. It really helps with recoil and grip and is a very cheap investment to improve the shooting experience ($4 for a 26" tube at local WM). I call her "Big Nasty" in an affectionate manner... BTW - Bud's is, as always, excellent. (4th purchase with them I've made, now I think, and always perfect). Thanks! more

Purchased my Hi Point .45 ACP pistol 01/10/2011, it was delivered to my FFL dealer here in AZ on 01/14/2011, awesome service Bud, thank you. Went to the range yesterday and shot about 100 rounds of Federal ammo through t...he Hi Point pistol with no issues, it's a little heavy buy comfortable in my hand. I would definitely recommend this as well as their carbines, I own both the .45 and 9mm and love them. more

I know, is a HP. Doesnt matter. For the price, this is a fine pistol. Accurate. I mean ACCURATE. Never had a FFE, FTF, stove-pipe, no problems at all with it. Not the easiest to break down and clean, but not as difficult... as some would have you believe, either. Good home defense for someone on a budget, just getting into firearm ownership. Ive no qualms with HP at all. Ive fired more expensive and "fancier" guns, but when it comes down to it, you want it to go BANG when you pull the trigger. The HP definitely delivers on that. more

I bought this gun through Bud's layaway plan. The gun works everytime. My son had bought one a year earlier. He's neve had a problem with his. I have mine now and I've no problems. Bud's layaway program is great. Not one... problem with any of my payments. As soon as I sent the last payment in, Bud's shipped the gun to Cabela's the next day. No problems. I will use this method again. Thanks Buds for the gun and the help. more

Just put 50 rounds through this bad boy today. Not a single problem. When you first hold it, you will think it's on the heavy side until you fire it. Very accurate and at first it looked cheap compared to other high end ...firearms but I can guarantee this gun is more durable and has by far the best warranty on the market. And if your going to buy it, do it through Buds. Cheapest prices around! more

Go into this gun expecting a sub $200.00 gun and you'll be fine. I like the weight, feel and shooting of this gun. Also love the ghost ring site. I feel like I got my moneys worth and buds service was great. For the pric...e point it'll still put holes in someone or something and fairly accurately. Also the only difference between this gun and the other hi point .45 acp pistol buds sells is this one comes without a hard case and the triggers are minorly different. Different designs only though I believe(maybe one older design/one newer). Not one better than the other. more

I got the 45 after buying the 40. The 45 so far hasn't jammed once even with steel case russian ammo. All I can say is WOW. This gun is mean and powerful. It's exactly like the 40 just with a bigger kick. Now I want the ...9mm and 380 just to have the set LOL. Their 9mm carbine is pretty cool too. Maybe this summer I'll snap one up. As before great service, great delivery and great gun. Thanks Buds. Joe Double D Barbershop Grand Forks ND more

I purchased this as my First hand gun, based on price. I have read some crappy reviews on this brand, but must say I am pleased with mine. I put 109 rounds through it my forst day at the range, and only had 1 double feed.... Shoots where I aim every time. I wish it was a bit lighter, but hey it shoots well. The guy running the range said some crap about it when I came in, but when I came out for more ammo, he said I must have gotten lucky, lol. I have another Hight point waiting at my FFL, a 9MM as well. cant wait to get it. Thanks to Budsgunshop.com for an awesome deal!!! more

Hands down, best handgun I've ever purchased from Bud's! Inexpensive and shockingly accurate. My son and I went to the range and his first shot with no adjustments was dead center of the target! My first five rounds were... center left, all within the size of a 50 cent piece! You gotta have one of these in your collection. (I can't wait to get a HI-Point 9MM for the wife! This was my first gun purchase ever and it happened to be online and through Bud's...I had always heard bad things about HP products, from them being cheaply made and having issues with "jamming" up. I did my own researc...h and found out that though some weapons are poorly made and used, it's a variety of factors that come into play...like properly taking down the weapons assembly parts and cleaning and lubricating the parts...using the properly rated ( in this case) ammo for the weapon, as well as storage, and feeding and a host of things that might cause issues when sending rounds downrage...I was excited to purchase for the $150 price...it came in a box, with a single mag, lifetime warranty and owners manual, gun lock and key, an O-ring sight option to the fixed ones. I even got a discount from the FFL dealer once he saw I was military. I tested the mag lock out feature to see if it was actually true, and since this weapon is built like a tank it could take a couple of well-placed (safely) drops. It held up just fine and I took it to a local range it shot beautifully AND ACCURATELY without any adjustments made. It ways a ton, so the recoil isn't bad at all and I even let one of woman friends test it out at a range and she shot head shots easily with her small hands and frame and to be a non-experienced firer. My best friend wanted to put the rumors to the test so he shot mine, was impressed and then went and bought his own in green! I love this starter gun for the price, durability, dependability and of course the accuracy. It's also American made. Thanks Bud's for the experience. more

Once again buds was great!! Super fast shipping and the best prices. Let me start by saying f*ck all the high point haters out there that say they are cheap junk. Cheap in price yes but they are reliable and EXTREMELY ac...curate!! Honestly this JHP .45 is probably the most accurate handgun I've ever shot it is every bit as good as my ruger Blackhawk .45LC which cost about as much as 4 new high points lol. With all the money u save when buying high point u can spend that much more on ammo :) I had a high point C9 that was at least 15 years old or so and I'll be honest and say it was a p.o.s. that had constant feeding issue and couldn't hit shit with it so I'd stay away from the C9 but idk maybe they made improvements and it's a decent gun now but I'd rather have the bigger badder .45 anyways. I'm very very very happy with my new jhp to say the least. Thanks buds!!!!!!! more
