Denel NTW-20 Anti-Material Rifle Critic Reviews
Denel NTW-20 Anti-Material Rifle Description
The NTW-20 is a South African anti-materiel rifle or large-calibre sniper rifle, designed by Tony Neophytou in 1995. The rifle was accepted into service with the South African National Defence Force in 1998. The two primary calibres in which the NTW 20 are offered, are 20 x 82 mm, 20 x 110mm Hispano and 14,5 x 114 mm. Armoured and soft targets can be engaged by the NTW 20 using the quick change-over between barrel and ammuntion types. The high explosive capability of the 20 x 82 mm calibre makes it extremely effective in the counter-sniping role and against mortar and rocket launcher emplacements. The efficient recoil management system reduces the high velocity recoil-making the system very user-friendly without tactical restrictions. The recoil system consists of an efficient muzzle brake, a spring buffer and a hydraulic damper. The barreled action is free to recoil in the frame of the weapon. Long Eye Relief 8 x 56 Lynx Telescopic Sight with parallax adjustment on quick detachable sight mount with Integral. Manual bolt with 6 locking lugs. Just by changing the bolt, barrel, sighting gear and magazine shooter even without specialized tools can change caliber of the rifle to 20 x 82 mm or 14,5 x 114 mm. Rifle can be disassembled and packed into two backpacks for carriage, one containing the weapon receiver section, while the other contains the barrel and ammunition. A muzzle brake is fitted on the end of the barrel which absorbs an estimated 50%-60% of recoil. Muzzle velocity: 820 m/s in 20 x 110mm, 720 m/s in 20 x 82mm or 1,000 m/s in 14.5 x 114mm. Effective firing range: 1,500m in 20 x 82mm, 1,800m in 20 x 110mm or 2,300m in 14.5 x 114mm.Technical Data
