More than 40 years ago, the Model 1100 forever changed the way American shooters viewed autoloading shotguns. It was the first autoloader to combine the repeat-shot versatility of early-century models with the sleek, modern lines and handling qualities of revered double barrels. The Remington Model 1100 has been a field-proved favorite ever since. Its superb balance, handling, durability and soft recoil from the gas-operated action are the foundation of the Remington autoloading legacy.

Remington 1100 Capacity

The Remington 1100 is a semi-automatic 12 gauge shotgun with a 4+1 Capacity.  Shells are loaded into the magazine tube under the barrel by manually inserting them directly into the magazine tube through the loading port in the bottom of the shotgun’s receiver.  The chamber can be loaded directly through the ejection port if the bolt is locked back.
The Remington 1100 has decent mobility in the field thanks to its 8.25 pound weight.  Designed for waterfowl, the 30 inch barrel hinders its use as a home defense shotgun, though a bird hunter will have little trouble raising the shotgun thanks to its well-balanced design.

Remington 1100 Ergonomics

Ergonomics
While the stock and handguard furniture are well designed for comfort, balance, and shootability and the charging handle and bolt release are intuitively placed, the internals of the Remington 1100 may leave something to be desired.  The lifting arm that raises the shells from the magazine to the chamber almost acts as a dust cover for the loading port, and if the user isn’t careful, they can get their thumb pinched by the lifting arm while loading.

Remington 1100 Fit & Finish

While older Remington models have proper surface treating, more recent Remingtons have been produced with sub-par finishes.  While the internals of the Remington 1100 are well made along contacting surfaces, machine marks may be felt as you cycle the bolt, the wood furniture might poorly match up to the wood in an unsightly manner, and the surface treating may cause severe rusting in a short amount of time.
