Gun Review: The Beretta M9A1 defies its critics

The Beretta M9A1 features an ambidextrous safety which also acts as a decocker the british design has an exposed barrel make the slide nice and light and fairly easy to rack but the biggest downside is the exposed barrel

It's my 4th beretta m9a1rn I got rid if 2 and kept the 1st one and the last one I took home Monday sadly to say it feels grimy. Had to pull the slide with a lot of force. The barrel wear was significant and this is "new" . It not a big thing but it came that way. Front side post was dirty and dark brown. Every time I pull down the slide lock lever its slow. I oiled it up and still the slide is slower to close than the others from what Incompared. I wish they would check it and give me a top notch one. I guess the more you but the less they care ...more

Excellent looking pistol. Good plinker or range toy. It is very similar in size and functions as the M9.

Beretta doesn't actually build this gun, so I was a bit skeptical when I ordered it, but the quality is far better than I expected. Feels like a standard M9 in the hand. Accuracy is dead on at the range, & it ate every ammo I tossed at it including Aguila which my S&W Victory absolutely will not cycle. I'm very pleases with this gun over all & highly recommend it ...more

Great little pistol, purchased to go with my M9A3, it does NOT have a threaded barrel as the info suggests.

Please note that I have astigmatism. With glasses, I can see the target clearly but the sights are out of focus. Without glasses, I can the the sights clearly, but target is out of focus. I am also not the best pistol shot. Here is the results using and NRA B-3 50 foot pistol target at 25 feet. CCI Standard Velocity: 1.8 inch group, Winchester Super-X: 1.4 inch group, Federal High Velocity Match: 2.0 inch group, Federal Target: 1.9 inch group, Federal Match: 1.6 inch group, Federal Ultra Match: 1.9 inch group. All functioned flawlessly. The 15 shot magazines stagger the rounds slightly left and right as if it would be in a double row magazine. I thought this may be a problem, but was not. This pistol comes with two front sights. With the taller one my group centers were mostly below the 10 ring. With the shorter one, by my estimation the groups would come up about 1.6 inches. I would be using this gun mostly to dispatch animals in leg hold traps, so impact right at point of aim rather than a 6 o'clock hold is acceptable to me. In my experience, shooting at 25 feet and 50 feet, the 50 foot impact will be higher than that at 25 feet with the same sight adjustment. With the tall front sight, the impact at 25 feet, would be no more than 1 inch above line of sight and at 10 feet, very slightly below line of sight. This is a safe distance from a coyote in a trap. I bought an extra 15 round magazine, not so much that I would need that much firepower, but just in case I loose one. The barrel on this gun seems to be smooth inside, by that I mean not rough. A smooth barrel is necessary to getting accuracy. The military standard for the 9mm M9 pistol is 3 inch groups at 50 yards. This pistol was never intended to meet that standard. The slide is alloy but has a steel insert as a breechblock. Single action trigger brake is very close to the very back of trigger motion. I have not tried double action. Loaded chamber indication is by means of a peep hole that allows you to see the rim of the cartridge. Fit and finish is good. Takedown and cleaning are simple and easy without tools, well except you do need a cleaning kit. ...more
