How would you like to rate Mossberg 590 Shockwave?
Mossberg shotguns are already the best in my opinion and this shockwave 410 is worth the money. It's light, compact, and fun to shoot. Makes a good close range self defense gun when loaded with 3 inch 000 buck shot (5 pellets). Mossberg didn't taken any shortcuts with this gun either, as the fit and finish were superb! I've tried 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch shells, both function great. ...more
100Fantastic. First pump action shot gun. Super smooth action. rnrnEven though it is built on a 590 receiver the trigger guard and safety are plastic. rnrnI really went back and forth between this and the Remington. rnrnThe mossberg is better because of following rnThe extra magazine capacity, rnSafety location rnSlide release rnrnI also kind of like the hand loop. ...more
100An absolute blast to shoot at the range. So much power, in such a small package. Definitely a firearm that not only is fun to shoot, but just looks mean. If you ever wanted a Terminator, Linda Hamilton, style gun, this is it. ...more
100Damn, this one heavy short shotgun, even empty. Mossberg made sure this shotgun will last the test of time. Now, add a 10 round magazine fully loaded and some people might find this hard to control, but I love it. I have been using 00 Buck and have had no issues. Extra magazines are expensive and I almost bought the 20 round but decided to stay with another 10 round because of weight. I added a laser aim and adjusted it for 10 yards plus a Pachmayr grip. Excellent shotgun at an excellent price. Thanks, Bud's. ...more
100This firearm is an excellent addition to my family’s home armory. The firearms handles all sorts of different 2&3/4inch shells with any issues yet. Perfect for home defense of fun on the range. Also that ten round mag is an eye turner in itself. Buds was fast at processing and shipping and I recommend them to people looking to buy a new firearm and can’t find what they want at the local stores. ...more

Legal to purchase and own in Arizona (AZ)
Is it legal in NC
Mauricio, yes Sir the Shockwave is perfectly legal to purchase/own in the State of NC. You can lawfully possess or own the Mossberg 590 as it falls within the exception of N.C.G.S. § 14-288.8(b)(5) and its possession alone would not constitute a crime in the State of North Carolina.
Hi Mauricio, Yes this is legal in NC ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, or MA***
Yes, here is the full determination of the NC Attorney General if you'd like to see it: .nssf.org/share/PDF/Schatzman-Sheriff-Mossberg-590-Shockwave.pdf
590 action compared to 500 action
Kevin, All Mossberg 500 series pump shotguns have same action.----------Introduced in 1960, all model 500s are based on the same basic concept designed by Carl Benson. Originally using a single action bar that was known to bind and even break, this was changed to dual action bars in 1970, following the expiration of Remington's patent on the double action bar design. A single large locking lug is used to secure the breech. The magazine tube is located below the barrel, and is screwed into the receiver. The slide release is located to the left rear of the trigger guard, and the safety is located on the upper rear of the receiver (often called a "tang safety").
It might be the biggest different factor between 500 and 590 that you should consider carefully. The magazines of model 500 are closed at the muzzle end, and it is held in place by bolting into the threaded hole at the end point of the magazine tube. However, the 590’s magazine is designed to be opened at the muzzle end. Besides, the barrels fit around the magazine tube and held on by the cap nut at the end point. Especially, the 590 magazine setups are easy to clean and remove, as removing the nut allows removal of magazine spring and followers as well.
Kevin, the 500 & 590 are the same "Action" Sir. Great details reviewed here : https://rifleshooter.com/2017/09/remington-870-v-mossberg-500-v-mossberg-590-comparative-design-notes/

Legal in PA
Michael - You bet it is! But since it is classified by ATF as a 'firearm' the minimum purchase age is 21. "Get ya One!"
yes it is legal in PA but it is not classified as a shotgun and you must be 21 to purchase ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, or MA***
Pistol or Shotgun
according to the ATF it is neither a shotgun or a pistol but is classified as a "firearm"
Jose - the ATF says this is neither a pistol, or a rifle, or a shotgun. It is a 'firearm', and as such, is not subject to the barrel or overall length requirements of a 'shotgun'. Check for local/state restrictions before you order, as some states/localities have passed rules against these firearms.
Jose, this is classified as a "Firearm". This essentially makes it follow the same guidelines as a handgun when it comes to purchasing. you must be 21 years of age or older to purchase.
The ATF rules that it is a "firearm", neither pistol or shotgun in this configuration. Without knowing what state you reside in I don't know if that has any consequence regarding its legality, I would probably check with the FFL you plan to use or local law enforcement.
Is this legal in Connecticut?
Frank - if you're over 21, then you can legally order this for shipment to your FFL in Connecticut. The ATF have classified this as a 'firearm' .. but not a shotgun. Hence, the shorter barrel is legal.
Please select a best answer. Also please note that the 1st answers given are at the bottom of the thread. You can select more than one best answer by opening the question in multiple windows/tabs (before selecting best answer) then selecting a different answer in each window/tab
Yes it sure is because it is not a shotgun but is classified as a "firearm" by the ATF ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, or MA***

Legal for 18 year olds in wv?
Quincy - Quite sure you will not be covered under any 'concealed carry permit' provisions .. since this isn't exactly concealable on your person. You really need to find a knowledgeable concealed carry instructor to help you wade through all this .. The cops, while they will tell you something, probably don't really know the actual details of the laws. The vast majority do not. A good concealed carry instructor would know, as it is their business to know. I don't believe you can buy it until you are 21. However, I believe you could legally possess it, should someone (a private individual) loan or give you one, at age 18 or above. Just double check - you are responsible to make sure you are within the law.
Quincy, no Sir. The minimal age for purchase is 21 since it is classified as a "Firearm" and not a long gun so it follows the same laws as a Pistol for purchase. I would talk to your local Police or Sheriff on your specific carry for accuracy laws since they enforce them.
Availabilit
Richard - I imagine it will be changed to general availability as soon as a new supply comes in. This points out yet another benefit to belonging to "Team Buds". Not only would you get access to several firearms not available to the general public, but if you use the layaway feature, you can possibly save nearly the cost of membership in one transaction.
when the stock numbers get higher it will be available to everyone if you planned to put it on a layaway please think about becoming a team buds member 90 day layaway will cost you $25.00 team buds membership with FREE layaways $29.95 or $4.95 more
Richard, usually when restocked in sufficient numbers according to Buds. You can ask Buds when that may be at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.
Ohio regulation change
Legal in OH as of 03/28/19. I live in OH. Ordered mine yesterday. It has already shipped and should be at my FFL by early next week.
Randy - Maybe you can ... Perhaps Buds just hasn't gotten around to changing the listing yet. Just give them a call, and be prepared to order (have FFL information and payment information ready when you call). I'm sure they wil get everything worked out as soon as possible.
Randy, you will need to contact Buds directly to see what's going on on ordering at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.

Jeff - should be all clear in just a few more days .... so give Buds a call at 1-859-368-0371 (9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri) or use the "chat now" button located at the bottom right hand portion of your screen, (9am-9pm EST 7 days a week) and verify it, then get your order in!

590 shockwave filled with sand
Theodore Christopher, Sorry about the attempt at humor in my first answer. The only time I saw anything like white sand on my new firearm was when a silica pack that they put in to keep humidity out broke. The little dry pouches they put in packaging may have broken some how. Check and see if you find a empty silica gel pack broke in your packaging.
Theodore, you should just do a regular clean/lube and if everything is kosher, no worries. If the action is still rough afterwards, I would contact both Buds and Mossberg for advice on resolution.
Buds does not open the boxes so how it came was the way Mossberg sent it out from Buds "Many new firearms are test fired at the factory. You may notice residual powder, rotation marks on revolver cylinders, residual cosmoline which sometimes appears to look like rust, etc. All firearms sold as "new" are in fact new in box as received from the manufacturer or distributor and include new manufacturers warranty....no exceptions."
Theodore Christopher, Never seen that before. What can I say. Firearm must of had a trip to the beach before you picked it up. Guess assembly debris. Clean her up and see what happens.
California
Ramon, Get your LE paperwork in to BUDs and this firearm can be shipped to LE personal in CA. Only allowed in CA 2 ways. (1) for the movie industry or (2) Government or Law Enforcement per California State statute {PC33300(b)(1)} So LE can purchase this in CA
Maybe as it is neither a handgun or a assault rifle the following exemption may not apply CA says " Law Enforcement (including federal) can purchase non-compliant ARs and so-called “assault pistols” as long as the firearm is being used for duty use only. Department letterhead required and must ship to a dealer with an “assault weapon” permit. " Please Contact Buds customer service (859) 368-0371 available 9AM to 9PM CST Monday through Friday or use the blue chat now button and they will help you We are not buds employees we are volunteers that answer questions
Ramon, yes, just contact Buds who will acquire your required credentials and you will be set at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon - Sat and 9am to 7pm Sunday.
Legal in N.C.
Legal in Wisconsin?
Joe, this firearm is completely legal in Wisconsin Sir. ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, MA, or OH***
Joe, this SHOULD be legal in Wisconsin but if you have any doubts I would highly recommend you consult with the proper law enforcement authority on the matter to be sure. Assuming there are no Wisconsin-specific restrictions you should be able to purchase this as you would any other firearm. The ATF does not view this as an AOW or SBS, rather it is a "firearm" due to specific design considerations by Mossberg to work around potential ATF no-nos. In any case, it is not subject to NFA paperwork or tax stamps.
How to buy
it is reserved for team buds members right now your choices are to become a team buds member or to go to a different model like Trevor D linked or to join team Buds Joining team buds would be my choice if you are going to put it on layaway because layaways cost $25.00 for a 90 day layaway but team buds gets free layaways and Costs $29.95 for the 1st year $24.95 if you renew budsgunshop.com/catalog/teambuds.php
Chris, that particular gun is only available to people with an active Team Buds' subscription. When searching all the results that are available will have Add to Cart below their picture in search results and on the right side of the page when you click on a gun. If you don't have this option it is either Team Buds' only or currently out of stock. I would recommend searching for other similar models, there are several models available with minor differences. A few links, an FDE colored version: budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/49157/mossberg+590+shockwave+12ga+5%2b1+fde A detachable magazine version: budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/105678/mossberg+590m+shockwave+12ga+mag+fed+10%2b1 Hope this helps!
Christopher, no, it does not. You will need a computer with a full browser, Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge to properly view it. ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, MA, or OH***
Is this considered a pistol?
According to ATF it is simply a “firearm”. Check out ATF’s letter to Mossberg. mossberg.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Shockwave-Letter-from-ATF-3-2-17.pdf
Hi Cliff - due to the fact this was not designed for, and never had a shoulder stock attached, it is in that "never never land" category of just being a "firearm". 21 yrs minimum to purchase. And the NC guys say no permit required. Very popular item these days.
No it is not the ATF calls it a firearm it has the same age requirement (21) to buy as a pistol. You would not need the PPP I am also a NC resident you should your CHL (concealed handgun license) it makes it so much easier
Clifton, no, it classified as a "Firearm" and not a shotgun, long gun, or pistol. For legality, it carries the same general rules for purchase as a pistol meaning you must be a minimal of 21 years of age to purchase. I am in NC also and a purchase permit would speed things up but is not necessary.
I live in ohio
Joseph, no. The shockwave is not classified as a "Shotgun" but a firearm and carries virtually the same rules as a handgun, which you cannot purchase across State lines. Only Long guns can legally be purchased across state lines.
According to the legal opinion I read, possession of his firearm in Ohio would be considered illegal .. even though federal law says it is legal to manufacture and purchase and possess. That being the case, if you could buy it in an adjacent state .. it could subject you to legal problems once you take it back into Ohio. The burden is placed on the owner to maintain compliance with firearm laws. If you can;t buy it in Ohio, then that;s a very good indication it is illegal in Ohio - regardless of federal law. This was copied from the Buckeye firearms.org web site: "According to our legal analysis, the Shockwave 590 is banned in Ohio. It is NOT legal. We don't like it any more than you do. And of course, this ban won't stop any crimes or make anyone safer. But for the moment, that's the way it is."
Shipping to Ohio
I fought and ask for this Approx a year to a year an a half ago- Praise the Lord Jesus Gov Mike Dewine Signed this into Law effective Immediately over- riding or correcting the Language on the Law that they the State of Ohio had or needed to correct. Yes they the Mossberg Shockwave and Remington Tac 14 can and will be allowed to be legal to be had or owned by Folks living Here in Ohio on this coming March 28 2019. Again Thanks Govenor Mike Dewine. Again I Praise the Lord in all things both Good and Bad...
Local gun shop is selling them here in OH they said they are legal state followed ATF reg.
Michael, yes, Buds follows State laws so shipping would commence when legal in OH.
if they decide to make this illegal?
It would depend on who was in charge of the government at that time (including Judges) they could be "grandfathered" in as legal or you could be ordered to turn them in. that is why voting is important
James, similar has happened and current owners may have their Shockwaves "Grand Fathered" in similar to Pre-Ban weapons of years past. We won't know until that bridge is crossed in actuality.
Mossberg will not Disengage
Try with the gun empty and chamber closed/locked (pointed I a safe direction) by pulling the trigger and seeing if the action unlocks to allow you to pump it. If it does be sure that recoil is not causing the pump hand to start the cycle (pump) slightly but then pushing the forearm back forward causing it to lock again if that is not the issue contact Mossberg at (800) 363-3555 ---- mossberg.com/service/
Carl, something does not sound right Sir. You should contact Mossberg Customer Service for a resolution at (800) 363-3555 ---- mossberg.com/service/
Female Friendly
I’m pretty sure it is. I’ve seen a video with two small girls shooting paper targets with their dad. Look on YouTube. Shooting the mini shells.
this Remington would be more "lady" friendly as the "semi auto" action will help with the recoil budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/107460/Remington+83392+V3+Tac-13+Semi-Automatic+12Ga+13++5%2B1+Syn
it will really depend on the "female" but in most cases it would not be they have a lot of recoil
Derrell, it is actually not. With some practice and using "Low Recoil" ammunition, it can be controllable. Examples here : budsgunshop.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=low+recoil+12ga
Illinois
Ohio just changed their law by overiding the Governor's Veto. The Shockwave will be legal in 90 days.

Daniel, yes they will. ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, MA, or OH***
AZ stabilizing brace
Dylan, yes it is legal. Just keep a copy of the Braces' ATF Compliance Letter with you and you will be fine Sir. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
while it should be legal I don't know of anyone who makes a brace to fit the Mossberg 590 action and I would be very cautious about making ANY modifications to the shockwave or the Remington version as they are such a grey area you could very well find yourself arrested and having to defend those legal mods in a court of law and hoping that the opinion of the jury/judge goes in your favor this article is a example even though he was found not guilty it still cost him thetruthaboutguns.com/2018/11/daniel-zimmerman/atf-suffers-rare-court-loss-in-ohio-short-barrel-rifle-prosecution/
Shipping
it will ship to the local FFL (may be a gun store) that you select he does the paperwork and charges you a transfer fee which is normally $15.00- $40.00 this fee is up to the FFL not buds you leave his store with you gun
Hi David, this will ship directly to a local FFL dealer of your choice (based on Zip Code of your address) for transfer to you. You will fill out the necessary paperwork and pay the transfer fee usually $25 to $30 and the dealer does the background check and once approved, gives you your new firearm.
Is the Shockwave legal to own in NJ
I finally got an answer at my local sheriff’s dept. If I carry it in my vehicle just covered up behind my front seat of my van, then anyone sitting in that 2nd row of seats must have a cwp since they would have open access to the gun. I’m legal to carry it anywhere in my vehicle as long as all others in the vehicle have their cwp. So I guess I won’t be carrying it in the car after all, unless I’m by myself or with my husband since both of us are cwp holders. Thanks to all who offered advice and suggestions.
yes it is legal in NJ but as it is NOT classified as a shotgun you must be 21 to purchase "*We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, MA, or OH ****
Frank, yes, the Shockwave is legal in NJ. ***We're currently not shipping this firearm to CA, MA, or OH***
Why can't it ship to Ohio?
I was at a gun show near Youngstown Ohio ,this weekend . Saw shockwaves for sale .I asked the same question , you can have but do not shoot . This is what the man told me
The Mossberg Shockwave has a barrel length of 14". Accordingly, with a barrel of less than 16" long, it is considered a "Sawed-off firearm" under Ohio Law. In Ohio, there is no barrel length exception, even with an overall length of 26” or greater. link buckeyefirearms.org/mossberg-590-shockwave-legal-ohio
Dylan, simple case of State Law overriding Federal Law plain and simple. Details here : buckeyefirearms.org/mossberg-590-shockwave-legal-ohio
Ohio law says any barrel under 16" is considered sawed off and under state law that weapon system is illegal
Dylan, The only real issue with Ohio is the state says the firearm cannot be modified by a third party from the manufacturer. So I don't know what the caveat is with the regs. Unless a third party adds something like pump strap or birdshead stock after the rest of the firearm is manufactured. I can't find anything about the 14" barrel, but that might be it. Dylan, I did find that Ohio considers this a "sawed off shotgun" even though BATF says it is a firearm. That is why you can't get it in Ohio.
20ga device
Lawrence, I didn't get where your question asked about mini-shells, but could have missed something. May have been asking about Mossberg mini-shell adapter. Only in 12 ga. Mossberg does have the shockwave in 20 ga and also the persuader with a regular pistol grip in 20 ga.
An adapter would not be needed for a break action or pump shotgun to fire the Aguila mini shells Lawrence. I have not heard of nor seen any 20ga Aguila mini Shells by the way.
